Hate among people has been around since people have been around. What's with these silly comments? There is love all around you too. Hate gets most of the attention because it makes for more dramatic and exciting news and fictional stories.

You might consider the thousands of love-centered dramas/films that get made every year too.

I didn't know we were "arguing."

What's sad is using "there are bad apples everywhere" as an excuse for not doing as much as possible to get rid of the ones who are concentrated where they can do the most harm.

I disagree. I've dealt with cops on the east coast and in the midwest. And I read the news a lot. I know what I'm talking about.

Policing attracts a lot of ex-military, super-macho, butch, frustrated sadists, who are also very cliquish and protective of their own. As a group, their intelligence is below average.

I'm not saying ALL cops are this way by any means, just that it ATTRACTS a high percentage of the people I describe above and enough is not done to screen them out or get rid of the bad ones already there.

Title Hopeless
Why is the rating so low ugh
Because it's MDL. The biggest cohort of viewers here are young American women, 18-35.
The lower the MDL rating, the better the show.
9.5 from me.

I write this as an American gay male. I've been around MDL four years now, so I know whereof I speak.

9.5 from me. I thought it was stellar. Big improvement over the standard, lame Yakuza, "action" stuff.

One of the best, most original Korean crime thrillers I've seen in a long time.
Deeply moving, as well as violent, though I saw none of its violence as gratuitous, not in the least.
Both male leads are outstanding.
I was riveted, start to finish.

Highly recommended.

9.5/10

(7.5 my ass. MDL is psycho with ratings. The better the film/drama, the lower the rating and vice-versa. I get excited when I see a 6.5 rating here.)

Gay media can do whatever it wants.

In cases where a story is set in a bubble-gum clouds and unicorn fantasy world in which all the hot, straight, jocks fall in love with screaming queens and trans chicks, I won't be watching.

You go ahead and watch. No one's stopping you.

As I said, "These are complete, ridiculous fantasies," which do not appeal to me. I never said that no one should be allowed to make them anyway.

ALL fiction is an "alternative world." This shouldn't be news to anyone.

I don't care enough about your stupid, semi-coherent questions to answer them.

You also can't read English. I never said anything like "I have dropped every drama." I have dropped almost every Thai drama since 2021, except Moonlight Chicken. Deal with it.

No, I'm not "yapping like a dog." lol You've got that covered.

Great acting. Sloppy plotting. Too many contrivances and unlikely coincidences, to the point they became predictable.

Bravo to the fight coordinator/choreographer and the two MLs. Those are the most brutal, yet realistic one-on-one fight scenes I've seen. Fewer ninja moves/sharp fist-to-chin blows and more sloppy wrestling/struggling and straining to use whatever is available like IRL. That element was a refreshingly naturalistic touch in what otherwise was a film full of melodramatic cliches.

I don't get why this film is, apparently, considered some kind of classic.

From my experience with American cops, the cops here are no more stupid, lazy, and cliquish than ours, and their actions, or lack of, are entirely believable.

Because of the cliches/tropes/coincidences/contrivances, this gets a 7/10 from me.

Ignore her. There are a lot of USA-haters on MDL. They harbor a massive inferiority complex regarding their country and assume we feel the same, so if you're American and DARE to criticize anything in Asian culture, they lose their minds, lashing out in fear that you think the same thing they do about their society.

I'm an American too, and am well-aware the U.S. is fucked-up in many ways. So what? This isn't an American show, it's an Asian show so it's fitting that when we comment about an Asian show we make references to what's in it, in, you know, Asia. :)

I wasn't referring to you with my "MDL Little Girls" remark. I don't get that vibe from you. There is a reply to my OP above that was left by a person who is very much and MDL LG. lol I'm sure you can spot it without my help.

Thanks for letting me know there's a gay-cut version of the drama you mentioned. I will seek it out and see how many episodes I would be expected to watch. :D

I am all for dropping any show or movie if I'm just not feeling it, and I don't pressure myself to have specific reasons. It's funny, I've only developed that habit in the last three and half years after discovering the universe of BL, Asian gay cinema and Asian cinema in general. I hardly watch anything out of Hollywood anymore. I feel this intense connection with Asian stories featuring Asian characters. And I am attracted to Asian men like no other kind on the planet.

I don't have to explain either of those things to anybody. They are gut-level perceptions which I don't even know the source of. What does it matter anyway?

I like sex scenes, if done well. Most of the Thai BLs feel totally unnatural and fake to me, the acting is usually hilariously bad. As for sex scenes featuring some level of dubious consent, hey, it happens IRL, so its fair game for a live-action piece of art. Provides great dramatic opportunities for the story to go in all kinds of intense directions. Even some rapists get away with it IRL, so I don't see portraying such a situation in a drama as "condoning" or "normalizing" rape either. There have been a million movies made about murder, and I don't think they've "normalized" murder.

I love what you wrote about liking to see conflict and struggle in a BL, during which family members or friends who "disapprove" or even threaten to disown gay characters as they come out. Again, this happens all the time IRL and makes for great drama.

The BLs I've seen, mostly from Thailand, in which everyone is gay or gay-friendly, and no one has a problem with it, are complete, ridiculous fantasies. The most nauseating one I can think of I "Secret Crush On You." Actually, I hate-watched that entire show because it was fascinating how bad it was in every way, especially that it had all these hot, athletic, straight college students falling right and left for gay-fem dorks. It was unintentionally hilarious in that way.

Thanks for the conversation.

I'll write what and how I want. Thanks.

I don't understand: First you say you have dropped shows after seven minutes, even less, but then you say it's "wrong" to do so. I know and trust my instincts. To me, the first seven minutes of this show smelled like two-week-old fish in the garbage pail, so I dropped it. I didn't say anyone else had to drop it. I didn't say people who watch the show are stupid. I said I, ME, MYSELF, dropped it and I said why.

MDL Little Girls are way too sensitive about criticism of shows they like. They take a snarky dis directed at a series as a personal attack on them. That's their choice. I don't care.

Perhaps I should have made my remark about the current sad state of the Thai BL industry more clear. On my list of Best BLs -Top 30 Ranked, EIGHT are from Thailand, including Grey Rainbow. However, ALL of those shows are from 2021 or earlier. It is in the last three years that Thailand has become a BL crap-factory, turning out shows aimed at the lowest common denominator of the BL audience: very young people who will watch anything with a BL label thrown at them.

I'll take a look at "Life is Beautiful." Thanks for the tip.

On edit: Took a look at "Life is Beautiful," as promised. omg, no way! hahaha SIXTY-THREE FREAKING HOURS?! Lord, not a chance in hell. I'll take on an eight, or even twelve-episode series if it's a BL or gay-themed adult drama, but I don't do endless shows like LIB. The second season of "Love Sick," one of the very first BLs I watched (BL cut), is probably the longest series I've taken on. I much prefer films and limited series.
