I felt that with her experience from before, if she plans to be a general again, she should be cultivating potential leaders from the recruit gang. QVV is pretty good. Youtube has made about 14 hour and a half compilations of the 18 23 minute episodes. The translations, especially the names can be spotty. The ML may seem more feminine but he works well as the disciple who became devoted to his master. The Chu villain seemed by some to be a more masculine match. But he isn't.

Good points, but the problem is as long as Pei is around, even as a consort, the resentment because of his actions as the blade of Zhuo carries a deep resentment with the court and the public . And would present a constant danger for her reign as shown with the Master Zheng willing to try to kill himself to make a point. All of the ministers refusing to move and fasting. And then Master Zhou bringing in the midwife. It's a scab that refuses to heal.
At this point Empress Ning is starting to dirty her hands and browbeats the midwife to expose who made her come forward. Once Ning steps on that path, all the good that she endeavors to do in the future will be stained be her actions. And although the midwife was silenced, Zhou may know that secret and Ning's reign may be threatened.
With Pei ''dead;' then Ning could rule with the benevolence that she had without the stain of the past. We can see that at the end when all save one of the ministers had no problem with Ning being a woman.
Ning's next husband seems to be Pei who came back as a commoner.

The various competing factions could challenge King Ning if they smelled blood in the water. Eunuch Pei had too much blood on his hands so that while at the moment the court is cowed, but any sign of weakness..... King Ning is vulnerable by being from the former dynasty so her legitimacy could always be challenged. And being a woman could always suddenly become a liability. She was the best leader for that country even if some may balk at a woman leader. We can assume that her court, even not counting the new woman ministers, recognize that that she is the best choice.

The sheltered and blustery Qi Menglin ultimately wins her heart. There is a goodness, a willingness stand up for her, and put her first, that she can at the end say, "Whereever you are, that is where my home is." Muzhi was so good that many viewers didn't like Menglin by comparison.

Those people dissing her want a fawning love, I guess. She and Beiming both have their moments of brilliance and she is usually quick on the uptake.

Petrarch. The love the main couple have with each other is there but this drama chooses to show it by the brief glances one or the other gives. By what one or the other is willing to do for the other and by what sacrifice they would do for each other. But the main couple don't spend time flirting or chasing each other. They are professionals and the job comes first.

Restrained PDA and an ensemble that shared lead time. Some love it and for some it doesn't scratch that itch for an idol drama. Across the court, LotFG did. Same with CD. But that doesn't make this less. imho I like how everyone here got their moment to shine and worked together. Would be interesting is to see a season 2 that doesn't try to repeat the Yesha mystery. Two female constables. And Zhuge getting a female nemesis in his unit that challenges him. He is due for a romance. Someone smarter than him... Or someone to mentor... Or how about someone that smooths his rough edges. Gives him the hero worship that he might crave. She also understands why Li might resent her.

HE for the two couples and Zhuge. Tong Shuang not so much.
