Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
My heart already feels so heavy waiting to feel all those emotions and cry with Chang Ge over her mother's death,…
Yes and partially the fact that she had to be on her feet running from the people trying to catch her. Also the fact that her mother died so suddenly. She didn't know she would never see her mother alive when she got onto that carriage

Some more thoughts of episode 1

“What you see is not necessarily the truth. The prosperity, for now, may not last long.” This gave me shivers down the spine repeating this scene to catch the lines. This was a connection to the Xuan Wu Incident. I think Sun knew of what was going to happen or at least enough to make him say those lines.

The first line especially applies in everyday life too. You see so much of the celebrity and influencer glory but the truth may be much darker and unexpected. There always sides of everybody that they don’t want to be seen in public.

The first encounter of Chang Ge and Sun already made my stomach get butterfly feels lol. Just by this one scene, you can see Sun getting a bit awed and curious about this ‘important Tang official’ as he thought who she was. This person looked from an outsider’s view a man, dressed like a man and acted like a man, Sun probably didn’t even have thought that she was a woman and probably never knew such amazing and strong people like he would exist until he discovered her real gender and got to know her a bit better. Like ‘he’ was powerful enough to make Crown Prince men obey ‘him’. Chang Ge obviously didn’t care much and thought he was just one of the common people.

I also noticed he the dude who knelt down to Chang Ge first said Jun (君)almost saying princess, Jun Zhu (君主)and then he said Lang Jun (郎君). I think there is some sort of secret rule that if you meet Princess Yongning in public, address her as a dude and ‘Sir’ as not to stir up some trouble and make the common people maybe think bad of the royals. Remember this was a time when strong, stubborn, smart, brave, determined women like Chang Ge were a big nono to the general public. Women were expected to follow husbands and do the housework, birth babies, and take care of the children while men would do the labor, earn the money, and men were supposed to be the strong ones while women were supposed to be the weak ones. This might not be entirely true especially with royals like Chang Ge but this was the conformed society known to the common people.

“That you’ll carefully live in Chang An, warm and fed. I noticed a sound effect that meant like ‘uhh’. This is because well, clearly as episode 2 plays out, that wish of Lady JIn will not be fulfilled. Chang Ge throughout the entire drama did not stay in Chang An just as her home. At the time when she came for the peace treaty, she lived in Chang An to discuss this peace treaty. After Chang Ge escaped from Chang An, and until she became the military counselor, she literally experienced so many hardships. She experienced hunger, loneliness, sadness, anger, pain mentally and physically, getting several close people killed, being devastated, being ‘betrayed’ by 2 of her good friends at the time, experiencing countless near-death situations, and so much more. This was like the literal complete opposite of Lady Jin’s wish. She probably said that because she knew of the coming horrible future and that Chang Ge may not be able to live her comfortable luxurious lifestyle anymore. Also, Lady Jin’s wish is probably many parents’ wish excluding the Chang An part.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
The very first scene of the entire drama in the first episode skips to episode 4 where Chang Ge is being chased.…
Continuation of this but this time I will include 'real spoilers' like the whole meaning and who said that line.

She was running away from the men from the imperial court chasing her since she stole Crown Prince Seal. If you watch to episode 4, you might be confused like why did she steal but you will later know she was already making plans for revenge for Li Shi Min, her second uncle who she thinks based on what she saw, heard and knew of her mother and family's death.

The dude chasing her who said that line when she stopped is an anatagonist for like 2/3 of the drama. He is Hao Du, a very loyal son of Minister Du, an important government figure. I must give credit to him because this was only one of the if any times when I think it was reasonable to chase Chang Ge although I disliked him the rest of the beginning 2/3 drama until he changed his thoughts.

Her shocked expression comes from the fact that her childhood and most likely best friend or at least very good friend shot her and made her fall into the water. That dude is Wei Shu Yu who ends up somewhat regretting it as in episode 4 you see him cry and look down into the river after she fell into the river.

There are 2 reasons he shot her heart. 1. He did that on purpose so she could have a chance to survive and maybe runaway. 2. Just a blur and he just shot her wherever his arrow aimed. The first is most likely because Hao Du grabs his bow and arrow and prepares to shoot but then Wei Shy Yu grabs his bow and arrow and waits a couple second while looking at Chang Ge then Hao Du and then shoots. He probably thought Hao Du, please don't shoot but Hao Du gave him that look so he decided he would shoot instead of Hao Du because he would most likely shoot directly towards her heart or brain which would kill her quicker than if he shot another place.

It is also because of this that this is the first of numerous times Sun saves Chang Ge.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
The very first scene of the entire drama in the first episode skips to episode 4 where Chang Ge is being chased. I think this is a great scene. This will be from a completely new viewer’s information besides from the synopsis but with knowledge from a person who has rewatched and analyzed the drama a lot.

It introduces the watcher to the main character, just through this scene alone, it shows many parts of Chang Ge’s personality and inner self and may leave a deep impression on viewers of a strong determined person.

She is running away from someone/ some people on a horse and she ran into a corner. You hear a man say something like stop running, no road to keep running, just go back and confess your crimes. You might be like so she is a criminal? Yes, she is at that time according to the dude who said that and she really was. This may leave a somewhat bad impression on you, but soon you will come to understand Chang Ge and what that line the dude said was all about.

You see her supposedly being forced into a corner but there is actually a secret tunnel (crossing the bridge since the people chasing her probably didn’t think about it) but too bad she couldn’t escape quicker (she was shot and fell in the water below her). The people chasing her were to catch her, but she would do almost anything to not be captured. Her hand movements alone on the black rope thing show her determination, and will. She chose to jump across an extremely unstable bridge showing she was well-determined to not get caught. This also demonstrates her bravery, her skill of quick thinking, and will because normal people like me would be contemplating to cross or not but wouldn’t even finish thinking about all the cons and pros before I would be taken and in cuffs. But no, she only stopped for a second, made up her mind, and did an otherwise unthinkable thing.

She falls off her horse and is hanging on a side of the bridge and this scenario may or may not have crossed her mind but she looks somewhat desperate yet still very determined. Then she gets shot in what might look like the heart but is actually her shoulder. She looks surprised and then falls into the water which turns into the illustration style.

Clearly, she survived just by common sense, dude the first episode shows a scene where she is shot and if she doesn’t survive, that makes no logical sense, the entire drama is about her so she has got to survive.

A Dou is in my opinion a great character, he makes the scenes he is in feel less tense and he is a very positive and cheerful guy. From the beginning he has admired Chang Ge and he is also pretty smart

Nope. Nothing like that at all. Any misunderstanding was part of the main plot. Not like those silly mindless…
Yes, there were misunderstandings but they were small ones and were resolved in a realistically (short) period of time. The main plot doesn't feed on misunderstandings but other ideas and things to keep going

Leo Wu is phenomenal in ep 25!!! You cannot argue. Sorry.
Yes! and I saw a behind the scenes of that scene and Leo was really into the scene and acting so much that after, he had to calm down by himself. He got mentally and physically tired after that scene showing just how much he got into Sun's character and the emotions
