I feel super late to the game but I just finished this show and I can finally say it's truly one of my favorites!…
completely can relate, the drama is just so good and I have been rewatching and rewatching, the drama occupies alot of my thoughts during the day thinking about the characters, how they relate etc.
For episode 48 rescue scenes and Mimi's death, they stuck CG in an outfit an 80 year old would wear. Even Shiba…
I half agree, half disagree. It is a bit plain but remember she wore this while selling mooncakes with the message in them and had to act like a regular person. The 80 year old part, I kinda agree, I could see an elderly women wearing that, but the outfit in my opinion overall is just meh
I think Minister Du was extremely controlling at the beginning but after seeing the true side of Chang Ge and…
Agree, although he warmed up at the end, I still feel he had an at least somewhat toxic relationship with Hao Du. He seemed like one of those tiger parents.
This reminds me of Ah Sun and Hao Du. Both were raised by foster fathers. Both did everything their fathers asked for until some happened relating to Chang Ge or Leyan. They both wanted to please their fathers the best they could. They are very loyal to their fathers. ( Ah Sun disobeyed Great Khan about Wang Jun Kuo because it related to the Seal of the Crown Prince that Chang Ge had.) (Hao Du after getting slapped by Leyan._
Ok but Minister Du is an abusive father! I said what I said.
I think Minister Du was extremely controlling at the beginning but after seeing the true side of Chang Ge and working for Li Shi Min more became less controlling and more caring
All those re-watching of TLB is going to affect you. You will likely find many other dramas too shallow. Or you…
agree 100% although TLB has its shortcomings, the strong points make up for it like a solid plot, spectacular chemistry and acting, the wonderful osts, and more
I know, this is probably one of if not the most active comment section of a drama. There are still great discussions going on even after the drama has ended and all the english subbed episodes have been uploaded.
The actress who played Mimi Guli played it really well. Mimi Guli is an extremely complicated character.
On one hand, I dislike Mimi Guli for putting Chang Ge into so much trouble, but on the other hand, I pity her because she wants to protect her brother. I used to think that she was super weak and compared to Chang Ge yes, at least a little bit weaker, but you must understand that all her family was dead except her brother and she really wants him to survive yet she is being manipulated by Khatun. Mimi in reality is actually strong in my opinion.
First of all, she is a slave and has been most of her life. Female slaves in the time period where the drama takes place are usually not treated well, but Eagle Division is an exception since, with the control of Ah Sun, most everyone respects each other. As a slave, she must have had to go through a lot especially as a female.
Second, she has stated multiple times that she would rather die than suffer but she chooses to live for her brother. Without her brother, she most likely would not have had the will to live and eventually meet Mu Jin and Chang Ge. So just by these 2 factors and the way Mimi behaves, she has a lot of emotional and mental trauma and pain.
Third, since I was comparing to Chang Ge, who is literally almost fearless, that would be super unfair. The thing is Mimi and Chang Ge just cannot be compared fairly. Chang Ge as stated by Johanna Linnea Karlsson in a thread below is very privileged, like utmost of privilege. She was treated like and trained like a Crown Prince. She knows martial arts and swordsmanship. She grew up learning a lot about strategies, how to protect herself, etc. On the other hand, Mimi grew up probably with little to no education since she was not at all noble and probably didn't really learn anything useful as a slave.
Also, in episode 18 I think, where Chang Ge had her period, and then Mimi helped her, they had a conversation after. After Mimi knew Chang Ge was a female, Mimi said that Chang Ge should stop hanging out with other men and go fighting with them since a women's job is to stay home, protect children, care for husbands, and have babies. Chang Ge replied talking about the job of men at that time and that she was no different from what men do explaining she didn't care if she was a woman doing what men were supposed to do. This shows that Mimi and Chang Ge have different mindsets. Mimi's mindset, although I don't blame her is that women should do what women are meant to do. Obviously, her mindset comes from years of being a slave Ashile. Her mindset slowly changes after meeting Chang Ge though. Chang Ge's mindset however is that she didn't care whether she was a woman, she thought that women could and should be able to do whatever they want. The reason she cross-dressed was that she knew she would be treated differently by people who didn't know she was Princess Yongning and just thought she was some woman.
Mimi is actually very strong. She sacrificed her dignity to protect her brother and kept doing things she didn't want to all for her brother and her survival. She even was a key factor in helping Ashile Sun escape his death by Yi Cheng in DingXiang since she was the one who helped get the maps. I don't blame Chang Ge for helping Mimi since to Chang Ge, Mimi is like a little sister or something and she clearly cares about her. Chang Ge cannot just do nothing while watching Mimi mess up her plans because she is forced to by Yi Cheng so Chang Ge uses information from Mimi to stall Yi Cheng's plans and eventually ruin them.
So all in all, Mimi actually like Chang Ge said helped Chang Ge since she is an insider of Yi Cheng, the main antagonist and an enemy of Chang Ge. Mimi just doesn't look and act strong because of her upbringing and her status and her brother still being a hostage. She even colluded with Chang Ge and dissolved some of Yi Cheng's plans with the backing of Chang Ge. She could have been killed by Yi Cheng if Yi Cheng had known sooner. Mimi like I have said is a complicated character that I keep having mixed feelings about. She was a key character in helping continue the plot and making it more interesting at times.
The actress who played Mimi did a fantastic job you could feel her emotions through the screen, You could feel her being afraid, her being nervous, her being worrisome, etc. I think the actress did a great job considering she had to show Mimi's worries when she was talking about Bu Zhen. You could clearly feel her being super sad, anxious, and mad when Yi Cheng said she cut off one of Bu Zhen's fingers. I felt pity for her yet felt that she kind of deserved it and it was only one finger. I know it's not right but that's just what I felt. Mimi was also very stubborn and overprotective of the ones she loved and Cao Xi Yue (the actress) played that part of Mimi well too. One look at her, you feel pity for her yet somewhat dislike her already. That is just my feelings about the character
After finishing the drama, I just keep coming back and rewatching again and again. I have probably rewatched this drama like 4 times in its entirety and have watched a lot of clips. I keep coming back for the chemistry between the actors/actresses, the amazing acting, the intricate strategies and just because the drama is that good. I am keeping up with several other dramas and when I have watched all the episodes they have released, I found I just keep wanting and watching TLB. Its just too good, and is now my favorite drama of all time.
I feel it's difficult to remember, we're comparing apples to oranges here.Chang Ge is the epitome of privilege. At…
I agree, Chang Ge was extremely privilged and Ah Sun treated Chang Ge with respect even after he knew she was a woman. He seems cold but is actually a very warm-hearted and righteous person with a very clear conscience. Even the times when he was supposedly being rude or mean was just him trying to get Chang Ge to survive or that was just his personality when he didn't clearly know Chang Ge and warm up to her.
episode 7 is super intriguing since An Xin gets invited to her "father's" birthday party. The thing is he doesn't really like her and kicked her out because she was actually adopted. And then she got confronted with something related to her real mother. Then her old "friend" tried to stab her. I think there is a conspiracy going on to try and kill her or something
