Some complains about ML's screentime. That is the aspect somewhat follows the novel. He didnt appear much later. We'll see plenty of him later on.
Also, too many name callings about Ye Xian. Yes he rubs us the wrong way in the drama. But he is extreemly intelligent, powerful, rival with ML if the screenplay sticks with the novel which i hope. And it seems it did, based on reuters i see.

Im gonna turn off my brain, forget the novel and watch the drama as it is, or drop it.
That particular scene was so undignified.

Ren Min time travels from a rebellious teenager in modern time in LTTN to a rebellious teenager in the Ming dynasty era

That's her personality in the novel. She has a really bad reputation, so much so that her family were worried that no one would want to marry her. It was one of the reason that Ye xian family opposed her.
When reading the novel, i felt that she was kind of ahead of her time. But i dont think that drunken scene was in the novel. Yes its a bit exaggerated

Im gonna get a lot of heat by saying this, but i wish, even though its not gonna happen, that Gu Jin Chao ended up with Ye Xian. The novel treated Ye Xian unfairly to fit the narative, yet the feeling he had for Gu was endearing.

Episode 9 is so sad. I keep rewatching the scenes of the 3 main characters, so sad and heart breaking. These 3 conveyed their emotion so well.

The switching back and fort between timelines really gives me a whiplash.
But, the weathered, tired, dejected look on RFX face makes me tear up every time.

Dummy question, is it considered good for a non-idol drama?

This couple is precious!

Aside from the murder mystery, it is a heartfelt story.
He Xiao He grew up under the wings of her dad and Uncle Ran, following their footsteps and finishing what they started.
There is a short clip in one of the trailors where the adult Xiao He standing in an empty room, lost in thoughts and imagined Uncle Ran sitting there smiling at her.
Not sure if i need tissues ready.

Ren Min in police uniform looks like a kid playing dress-up, lol

I know. It should probably put her as supporting role, similar to The lonely warrior in which she was also a guest star and appeared only from ep 20.

The cast list is not really correct. The main leads are only Dylan and Pan Yue. Ren Min is a guest star. And she would only appear later as the adult Xiao He.

He's a judge and she's lawyer, conflict of interest if he has to handle her case .
Right now it's just a family court with simple dometic cases.
But if he's promoted to higher court and she's accepted to a big law firm which have high profile cases then it would be a problem.

It was a weird confession, IMO. But the sadness, the way he said it - so endearing. And she, even though she acknowledged and accepted the huddles between them in stride but her eyes crying without tear. Super acting both of them.

Watched the clip on X and it was funny.
A bed time reading turned to a case argument about Nezha. The Judge calm demeanor vs. The lawyer sharp tone and the kid just looked at them dumbfounded.
Finally we will see GJ in a complete different role.
But i have to admit the Judge's look is distracting LOL

And so i thought we're done with the age gap thing. Some other dramas with the ML was older than FL but no one made a fuss

Beware, if you only watch 1,2 eps so far, probably best not to read many comments down below. Someone revealed the big plot twist without using spoiler tag. The twist that really gave me the OMG moment.

The King is smart. I hope he didnt buy the lame excuse that treasonous uncle gave about the FL's chilli powder. He knew it was the secret ingredient for the competition, yet he gave away to the Ming chef and hid the rest at his residence.
