this is a call to all Xianxia/Xuanhuan fans, I NEED YOUR HELP
I have a few questions
Do you think this is a good drama? and how much did you rate it?
bc here's the thing:
I've always been a huge fantasy fan, all the books I read are fantasy and I've read fantasy from different cultures (including chinese!) so it's not like I'm just used to one boring type of fantasy. (and I grew up watching it a lot as a movie/tv show genre)
AND I love Hisotrical cdramas and non-fantasy Wuxia (if that's a thing)
but for SOME reason, I just cannot get into fantasy cdramas and it's genuinely making me sad at this point bc I really want to. I'm not sure if I just can't find something that matches my taste or if all Xianxia/Xuanhuan dramas are just not my taste..
a while ago, I tried starting love in the clouds bc of how popular it is, and it just felt messy and unintriguing and I felt like there was stuff that the show was assuming I already knew as a viewer, I really tried for like 4 episodes and ended up giving up
today I "completed" this show (it feels wrong saying completed bc I skipped so much of it) and it felt like an absolute mess, I didn't care about any of the main characters except A Sheng and Jin Lun (I liked them both individually and as a "couple") and I felt like the writers absolutely wasted that storyline. I also liked Bai Zong Ying and his immortality plotline but everything else was such a mess that I ended up not even paying attention to him
so I'm wondering: -are all fantasy cdramas this messy? -do they all throw you head first into complicated world-building without introducing you to it at a reasonable pace? -which cdrama do you think is ideal for someone who's trying (begging) to get into this genre (preferably one that is very character-driven)
ps: this is NOT a hate comment, I'm being very sincere pls help me ðŸ˜
Dongman saying that he's like a human sponge and his feelings depend entirely on whether his environment likes him or not 😠That was so relatable, I didn't think I'd hear someone say it so plainly and directly
This should not have been a romance. It detracts with what would have been a great character slice of life drama…
but it isn't a romance, it just happens to have two characters falling in love, but it isn't the main plot..
And them finding each other/falling in love adds a lot to the show because it's meant to emphasize human connection, not in a romcom kinda way but in a real life way
If u ever feel useless, just know that people who reviewbomb future episodes exist on MDL🥀
recently I saw someone bomb recs by recommending their fav idol's cdrama with every upcoming show ðŸ˜I made a rec that I was proud of for that drama and it got absolutely drowned by their spam
Did we have a 3 year time skip? They mentioned the mourning period. Then there was a 2 month jump. Then we have…
she left around the funeral and when she came back, Ye Xian said something along the lines of "after all these months" so at the end of ep 16 it's only been a few months no? When did they say the three years/mourning period was over?
I’m genuinely perplexed by some people defending Ye Xian’s ‘right to love’ and saying that he has redeemed…
as someone who is slowly becoming interested in his character and who IS hoping for a true redemption arc for him, I definitely agree that he has not redeemed himself yet. And it's still bothering me that he never apologized for what he did, and I don't think he will unfortunately.
I noticed a lot of people nitpicking what you said and focusing on the actor part lol, I don't think I agree that people love 2ML bc of the actor, but it's upsetting to see so many dismiss all the good points you made just to focus on that part. Especially since you said you have a suspicion instead of flat out accusing anyone or saying anything bad about the actor himself.

I love to see a mature take.
