I think this was the first Kdrama I watched but I am not sure since it was many years ago. But I believe this is the 3rd time I’m watching it. As a rom-com it is nothing special, there are better dramas out there. But as someone who studied in a cooking school for 3 years and who loves cooking and cooks everyday, I like it enough to watch it more than once. But it is mainly for the huge focus on cooking, which I love. If the cooking part was not as present as I have seen happening in other dramas, I would not watch it more than once.
If I pick a drama about cooking I expect it to be about cooking, and if a drama that should be mainly focused on cooking does not focus on that, then they must make everything else interesting enough for me to keep watching. Unfortunately I have to say that this one without the cooking part would pretty much amount to nothing, so I am a glad they kept the focus on that. Rated it 7/10
I personally did not like it as much as I expected or as the 8.5 rating made me believe I would like. I had a hard time connecting to the story and characters with the whole past/present thing all together in the same episode. The only drama I can remember that used this same going back and forth in time in every episode and that was able to wow me was the kdrama Circle.
I do think that it was well made and the actors were good and it had some sweet moments that I liked but unfortunately I felt bored most of the time. Maybe 24 episodes was too long. Maybe it was all the side stories with so many secondary characters having screen time. Maybe I just wasnt in the mood for this kind of drama. I dont know.
Im not saying its bad, its not. It just wasnt my cup of tea, but it might be yours so I would still give it a try if I was you.
I dropped this drama on the first episode not once, but TWICE. But it kept appearing in front of me so I decided to give it another chance. The first episode wasn’t that good for me, not bad but it just didn’t give me that wow I want to keep watching feeling. But by episode 2 the story starts to develop well and at the end, I watched everything and liked it. Although not my favourite be it for the romance or medical part, it is pretty good. I don’t know if I will re-watch it but I am glad I watched it at least once.
I can count on my fingers how many medical dramas I have watched. This one had a different vibe to it. It wasnt only medical stuff, it also had the disaster scenario, hints of romance, and much more. It was not perfect, had its flaws which made me skip a few scenes in the last episodes, and I wish there was more romance, although I understand for this type of drama romance is either non existent or has a small presence. But I liked it and I think it deserves the rating I gave it, which is close to the overall rating of this drama - 8.
This is hard to review for me. I put it on hold several times since the first few episodes and almost dropped it. But I am glad I did not. The first few episodes were in my opinion boring most of the time but necessary for us to understand what the main characters went through in their childhood, how that changed them as they became adults and the motivations behind each character. So if you can get through the first few episodes without dropping it you might start to enjoy it once it shows them as adults, which was the case for me. At some point I felt the pace got slower but then it picked up again and I did not binge watch it as I usually do, instead I would watch it during my meals and pauses from work which made me enjoy it a lot more.
I feel that there were 2 main problems with this drama - 1 is obviously the 50 episodes that could have easily been 30 instead and the other is the fact that they had too many genres in one drama - melodrama, romance, investigation, comedy, and so on. Those 2 things made the drama draggy at some points and I believe people who try to watch a lot of episodes in the same day might feel tempted to drop it.
But at the end I did not regret watching this, it made me smile so many times, made me tear up too and feel frustrated at the actions of some characters. I would not rewatch it as it is 50 episodes long but I would definitely rewatch some scenes. I guess the rating for this drama is pretty accurate compared to other dramas. I gave this a 7, which for me is the rate I give to dramas I liked enough to rewatch.
No problem. Chicago Typewriter isnt on my list but I have thought about adding it a few times because it has a few elements from some of my favourite dramas. Might give it a try later. I am a person who picks dramas depending on my mood, because I like a lot of different things - historical, rom-com, action, investigation and police dramas, time travelling, sometimes even melodramas (not too often tho). And usually if I feel like watching a korean drama, then the next ones will also be korean, and if I feel like watching thai, then the next ones will be thai, and so on. If I had to pick between all languages, korean dramas are my favourite and I have recently started to learn korean so my plan to watch list is mostly filled with korean dramas. XD
Same thing, I respect your opinion too. I read some of those comments of people who werent going to watch it because of the cheating but then did and agreed with it. But like you said, I have a very well formed opinion about this and if the cheating is presented in a positive light it is one more reason for me not to watch it no matter how good the drama is, because I would be going against what I believe is right. It might seem odd that I am this firm about it but if I watched it and ended up liking it to the point of agreeing with the motives for the cheating, then I would be having a fight with my own conscience. There are so many good dramas out there that I don’t feel like Im missing something from avoiding dramas with cheating, be it presented in a negative or positive way. So I thank you for the recommendation but I would rather stay away from it. :)
No. And from what I read about it, I probably wont ever watch it. I read the female lead is married, and no matter how bad a marriage is or how many excuses there are, I see it as something that is not right. I never get into any dramas or movies knowing there will be any kind of cheating. It is one thing when I dont know and start watching it, but if I know ahead of time, no matter how good it is, I wont watch it. I had that problem with a thai drama that has high ratings. I was enjoying it until the male lead cheats on the female lead not once, but twice. Dropped instantly at that episode.
I liked it but I felt if it wasnt for the cast and a few other things I liked, I might have dropped it. The story itself has many flaws. The concept is good and the flashbacks with the children and teenager cast were pretty interesting - a mix of cute, funny and sad. But I felt that there was no need for 16 episodes with this plot. The result would have been better with either less episodes or a better developed story. Anyway, its a good one time watch, but I probably wont watch it again, at least not the entire thing. A drama with a similar concept - friends become lovers is Fight For My Way. That one was a pleasant surprise for me as I had no expectations when I started it and it ended up being one of my favourite kdramas of 2017.
Dont love it, dont hate it, just watched it for the sake of watching it. I guess I have watched way too many dramas so its getting harder and harder to find dramas that I find super interesting. There were a few things about this one that I liked but most of the time I was bored and skipping scenes. Felt like the story was going around in a circle just to drag it long enough for it to have 20 episodes.
The story is very slow paced, like most thai dramas, and the supporting characters were given too much screen time in my opinion. Would have liked to see more of the main couple BUT I admit that it were those same characters that helped them fall in love for each other and realize their feelings later. Of course there were some characters that instead of helping were making things more difficult, but I will leave it at that.
It was not perfect, had many flaws and boring moments but overall I liked it. The plot and main characters were a little different from what we see in most dramas, be it thai, taiwanese, korean, chinese or japanese.... and that was refreshing. I gave it a 7/10.
well everybody got different tastes....I fastforwarded this and ultiately dropped this ...but I sure didn't miss…
True. One of the reasons I had a hard time sticking with Bride of Haebak was that I read the manhwa some years ago and when I heard a k-drama was being made based on it, I got super excited and had high expectations. Turns out that the k-drama was completely different from the manhwa, if the name was not the same I would not even know it was based on it. So yeah, that set me up for disappointment.
I think the person’s mood is also important when watching a drama. And also how many dramas you watched before. There are dramas that I watched years ago that I liked a lot and that I now find boring. Who knows, maybe in a few years I will look back at the rating I gave this drama and be like...WHAT, why did I give this such a high rating?? It sucks! XD
Well, this was hard to watch. Most sites dont have all the episodes subbed and the ones that had, the videos kept loading because the servers were super overloaded. So yeah, I could not enjoy it as much because of that and it took a lot longer to finish it than it should have. BUT I agree with the review that says this one is better than both the korean and taiwanese versions. I prefer korean dramas over all other dramas from other countries, but I did think this version was less frustrating than the korean one and the male lead also acted a little less like a jerk??? compared to the one in the korean version.
I liked the first one but this one came off as fake. The feelings the characters had for each other seemed fake or not sincere enough. The first few episodes were nice but then it fell apart. If you can ignore everything that is wrong with it, then you might still like it but for me the way the female lead delt with her and other people’s feelings was not the right way and that made it hard for me to be happy for them at the end.
Cute but too short even for a drama special. It’s not even as long as a movie. So sadly there was not enough time to develop the story and characters. Felt like I was watching a short recap of an entire drama, and yet there were still some boring scenes. It’s not bad but I have seen a lot better for these type of short dramas. I know in some cases less is more but this is a case of less is less.
If I pick a drama about cooking I expect it to be about cooking, and if a drama that should be mainly focused on cooking does not focus on that, then they must make everything else interesting enough for me to keep watching.
