I was quite all geared up to watch this drama expecting great storytelling, scenes and cinematography, bit it…
Wow, I really disagree. I am now watching the First Jazmine in tandem and First Jazmine seems tired, slow, poorly acted and with a meh soundtrack in comparison to ATC.
I think the contrast is some sort of generic one. There are some huge differences in style of acting and the aims and themes of the dialogue and the completely different scene-setting (what is that called)).
I am continuing with FJ to see if that is the problem, and if I will ease back into the current standard romhistorical.
OMG I just finished ep 14… and all I have to say is if you’re emotional prepare those tissues!!!! I balled…
For aficionadoes of palace intrigue this one has almost a musical cadence with the pair of them( DengYi and Xie YanFang) doing their dance in court and then Xiao Xun dooming away in his green home (how unfair that the Xiaos get my favorite color!). Technically excellent cinema.
Ep14 Xie Yan Lai is as passionate, guilty and obsessed as Chu Zhao, isnt he?
His second lynching in life, both fundamentally caused by duplicitous big 'brother'Xie YanFang shifting blame onto YanLai for military matters.
YL takes all the blame willingly, then is saved dramatically by Chu Zhao, backlit -- in red #1 (life) and in white #2, please let this not mean death, but some gesture of fundamental innocence!
To be honest, the two of them are truly made out of heroic stuff -- mildly nuts. They seem so different, she is driven by rage and fury and he by some sort of hero-worship and self-sacrifice, but that fundamental driver of guilt and self-blame...they really need to get rid of that to be real human beings.
a side irony -- general Zhongrong and Chu Zhao ride in to protect Xie YanLai from a self-induced lynching. The two exhort the crowd to let the military courts determine justice and guilt. Tghen they of course proceed to enact the chinese court-of-village-opinion fiction right there and then and defend him. The court of village opinion is an amalgam of' the righteous village' and of classic beliefs in the reasonable ability of humans to come to a fair and just conclusion through public discourse.
I am not enjoying this. The arch and relentless cheer from the despised wife? ChengLei's simple gaze makes her seem soulless. Too many mid-distance shots of an entire room when one close-up would do 20x better.
There is something wrong with the soundtrack/acting. Definitely empty spaces in both without purpose. Why? (Ep1-3) ..
I will stick with this a little more for the sake of the disable hero trope which I love.
Ep23 I am a little like flower moon, I need some sunlight rather than strings of disasters and misery in my entertainment. I admit, at the end of 21 when the shop caught on fire I was like oh no. And I am now looking at XingWu's retrospectove flashbacks standing in front of the burnt-out storefront. And I see how it workls dramatically and I like it. This isnt filler or just another crisis it is a chance to really express cinematically memory and loyalty and other good stuff. I almost didnt watch this show because I dont do saccharine highschool, but there is a good balance of sweet and acid in this saucing which elevates the show.
Bro we betting get at least 5 episodes with them being away from each other for 5 years or whatever it is. If…
Thanks, yeah. by 12 hours i think, it shows up on viki here in the eastern us so late in the evening, like 11:30/midnight, that i see it only the next morning
Cao Fan kind of pissed me off. She could've resolved the misunderstanding of being bullied by the FL and ML but…
She is a bit of a hard-**s, I admit. But we see so many women like that in the world, quietly and determinedly struggling with a hard fate.
Her anger and resentment bleed into all her interactions and cause problems. She didnt fix her brother's friends' misunderstandings because she didnt care about anyone but herself. So admitting she wanted a family was a step forward. I liked that she accepted the gift of the watch, it felt like she acknowledged that he cared for her.
Qing Ye the FL is sort of preachy, but essentially correct -- Cao Fan deserves a place amongst the dedicated students. QY has a sort of hard-headed practicality about public life.
I felt for Cao Ping though, didnt you? He isnt the brightest spark and he got everything wrong. That's why I was so cheered up by their new year's meal together. And the idea that Cao Fan was willing to have him around.

I am so depressed.

Friends. Two bowls of dumplings . EAT or TALK. and two red envelopes.
