I am glad that we have platforms like MDL to access other people's comments so then we can savor more of the movies and dramas, and be able to have a piece of mind of what others have experienced :D

I took notice of this when this was released because of Takahashi Issei, but was not hooked by the first episode. I tried to watch it again because of someone recommending it to me, and I am just glad to have watched this in a way that I was able to binge it and not have to wait for it weekly and yet very grateful that I had that second chance because this was such a brilliant watch :D

in Takahashi Issei I trust. I remember doing an unintentional marathon of dramas with him way back when I just discovered him. speaking of him, I am patiently waiting for complete english sub of 6-Byoukan no Kiseki: Hanabishi Mochizuki Seitaro no Yuutsu.

I am usually up to date with kdramas, waiting for it weekly, but for jdoramas, knowing that it is mostly once a week release and is subbed slower, I tend to binge them once complete, thus I am late in the game. but truly enjoyed everything I consume with japan, and extra delightful with the recent finds that I had. hahaha.

I am glad to have another friend in MDL that is a jdorama fan, and yes, I think, we have quite similar taste - we both have good taste :P heheheh.

came back after reading the other comments. I might have misunderstood the title and the movie itself. ahahah. I was obsessed with the word "family." with that, I agree that this was a portrayal of rise and fall of yakuza. :)

yakuza family is a cycle of:
fathering or being a parent figure to your colleague's child, and that child will grow up going around asking "tell me about my father."

then I realize that the weight of the word "family" in the title becomes heavier.

So I was surfing the internet for tattoos, then I was led to yakuza's body suit tattoos, and when I went to browse something to watch in netflix, the poster hooked me. I actually did not expect to finish this because I did not even know what I was in for (I skipped the synopsis and just jumped right through it). from the first secon until the last, my impression was that, This was a journey of one particular man..
I wanted it to have happy ending, but towards the end, I just wanted to see the end whether it be sad or happy.

It was definitely about yakuza (as the title indicates), but the family was subtle . Kenji called them family.. then later, we see that yakuzas create their own families (as what the bigger society do). we were introduced early to the Kimura family (Aiko, Tsubasa and the fallen lieutenant). and then hosono's who killed his "aniki," (supposed to be family) at the end because of his family leaving him. his yakuza family (background) made it impossible to live normally with his current life.

this was such a great watch. japanese movies does this often to me - they narrate an everyday life of somone, nothing trivial happens, you can somehow predict because I can relate to it somehow or have encountered real people who are capable to do the same decisions. their portrayal of realism draws me in, and slowly, I get trapped, leaving me wanting to finish it until the ending credits. and then finally, waves of feels, thoughts and emotion wallows me.

I came to realize and articulately understand this experience first, was when I finished "When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to be Dead" movie.

will we meet Kunou Totono as a teacher though? :)

now, if I can just find a romcom jdorama to watch next, that would be perfect cure for my hangover for this genre (MIU 404 and 3A)..

I find myself rewinding bunch of scenes because I cannot catch up with the subtitles as I get engrossed too much of his acting. Bukki!
