I'm really frustrated by how bad were the older feminines under the power of the crown. How manipulative, ruthless…
hahaha, true.

I just skimmed through your dramalist, and respect for being able to finish long series. just curious if are you a binge watcher or a watch-the-day/week-it-release for the long dramas?

they did not have netflix (or any other forms of easy access entertainment) before so making others' lives hard is their entertainment. hahhahaha.
but really, we have the same question on, are they really awful or was it an exaggeration for drama's sake?
Well, we can just imagine how long the lengths a human can go for survival and staying sane which ironically is a thin line from going insane. :P

There are 2 kinds of drama for me:fit for bingeing and on a weekly basis.this, in my opinion, should be watched…
and did I mention that I hate being spoiled, thus, the wait for it to binge is not an option for me :)

I don't really watch sageuks and chinese historical epics so you may be right :) and also considering the episode count for the progress of story's sake.
Maybe I want to contrast this to other typical historical kdramas and other light dramas. This was complex in a way that there were a lot of revelations in the story as the episodes progress. I just finished episode 14 when I wrote this. :)

SPOILER ALERT: this tackled cross dressing, wedlock, not-your-typical-underdog theme where we see the struggle of the queen yet in each episode, we get satisfying small victories nevertheless, there is also original villain and subtle villain in the making.
______________________ END OF SPOILER _______________________________________________

I can't even say that these were plot twists, but rather a series of revelation in the stories that let the audience say "that made more sense" as the story unfolds. As for the losing interest part, after each episode, solely the queen and her journey remain that becomes my only motivation to watch it again weekly. It is in the middle of the episode that I get to have that nostalgic adrenaline rush again that I get in good dramas (in my opinion and preference). I can say that I could have afford to stop watching this but I am glad that I did not :)

As for it being easy to follow, I think I want to commend the director and writer for that. I'd like to believe that they made the series possible in that way.

thank you for reading the long post, hahaha. I got carried away

this, in my opinion, should be watched slowly yet in a consistent pace. Do not miss a week, or else you may lose interest because of the many characters to remember. The story is a complex one so giving it a time off might help process :)

Put the drama on hold because it was too heavy and depressing for my taste/mood at the time. Did this improve…
edit: just read your other replies.. you do you :D having another opinion is great and okay.

it gets heavier because how the story evolves to the meatier part, yet I would say that it is definitely getting better and it is in the darker, complex theme that had its charm.. Talented director and genius writer duo of how there are a lot of going on but they made it in a way that don't confuse the audience. They unfold it so smoothly that it was not a chore to watch.

Another great thing, is that the suspense is not from questions planted in the audiences mind, but the revelation unveils as the episodes go by. There are characters and there is a story. The more we watch, the more we understand the story and get attached to the characters (in both good and bad ways).
My ultimate favorite though is how this is not the typical underdog story because we get to see how the queen struggle so we can empathize with her and yet, in each episode also, we get to see her get trample her adversaries and or gain allies along the way.

I don't want this to end yet, but I also cannot wait to finish and do a full review on this :D
A great drama to end the year 2022.

episode 14 and I am still thrilled and hooked. The story is getting better and better.
the directing is flawless as always. How is this not stretched to 20 episodes? I don't want this to end just yet.
