Yes, I had a problem with this scene as well. It was poorly executed. This is why the reviews are low. Hopefully, they can tighten the writing up. Actors are good and they deserve better. As does the audience.

I don't think ML is mentally unstable as some have noted. I think he was in shock and didn't seem to know what to do with his wife's emotions while trying to process his own shock and grief. I think you are right that he is certainly a character with layers that we will soon get to know better as the backstories are revealed. I love this about Namkoong Min. I have seen him in many roles and the one thing he does well is take time to flesh out his characters down to smallest ticks. I think his lack of personality during these first episodes is purposeful, so that the viewer gets to see his progress as his circumstances force him out of his comfort zone.

While I do understand that there will be gradual reveals to answer our questions, I am already frustrated with why the detective wouldn't tell him the truth from the beginning about who he was. Why the, "You have to do this on your own." drama? Why did the ML have to stab him in the neck to get him to tell him anything? How are the police so damn stupid not to put two and two together and entertain the possibility that the video could be a deepfake, when he was pinging his location in China when obvious he wasn't there? I guess stupid police trope is another cliche. I like the show and will keep watching, but the plot holes are niggling at me.

IKR?? He is such a capable actor, though. He is killing it with the creepy serial killer vibes. It shows what a versatile talent he is.

Thanks for saving me some time. It’s sad when talent and production value takes a hit because the script didn’t measure up to it. Was the writing team well known or were they newbies? I think if you have the budget to create a good production, you should hire a talented writing team.

I am obsessed with this show! It is so well-written and performed. This is up there with the better dramas like Story of Yanxi Palace. There are few slow areas and I haven't been bored once! The plot line can get hard to follow because of all intricate details and characters, but it has just the right amount of gravitas and lighter moments to keep it from being too serious or silly. The performances are really good--no bad actors and the characters feel genuine. I am going to have a hard time letting this show go. Bravo to the production team! When you have a great script with the right cast, you can create something truly amazing!

I came looking for this. I had been watching this on Viki and was about ¾ of the way through when it disappeared from my "continue watching" section. I finished it on YouTube just a moment ago and was frustrated by the uneventful ending and the untranslated post narration.

You're not wrong. This show had a lot of inconsistencies and implausibilities that took away from a solid rating. They did handle Hao Chen's issues horribly, bringing him on only to further the subplot du jour and then ignoring him to focus on the uninteresting corporate drama. The central point to this series should have been family. Yan always wanted this above everything because it's what she didn't get as a child. So, more emphasis on the son's issues and the strengthening of the family bonds should have been the focus. I was angry over the twist of him not being Shen Hao Ming's son after all. What was that? It was evil to do that and I don't understand the purpose. The ridiculous idea to pin it on the aunt was over-the-top nasty and made SHM look stupid for being duped. It's not like paternity tests are hard to come by or easy to fake. Just total nonsense.

She actually fell for him and thought he had fallen for her, but he was just giving her what he thought she wanted.

I have seen The Double. Loved it! Right up my alley as far as good dramas go.
Excellent performances by the cast.

He is supposed to be the Emperor’s son because Erqing deliberately seduces him to get pregnant because she needs something to keep her husband from leaving her. She then confesses to the Empress that she has become pregnant by the Emperor. Saddened by this betrayal she dies. This is why Yingluo takes revenge on Erqing and has her killed. Part 2 makes you think that the father is actually the uncle but that is implausible as Erqing never respected him. Yingluo deliberately deceives Fukang An because she isn’t about to reveal her husband’s biggest secret, as it casts him in a bad light.

They are siblings. Yingluo deliberately deceived Fukang about his parentage because it’s the biggest secret between her and the Emperor. She wanted to exact revenge on him without revealing the Emperor’s big secret. This is was the whole reason why Yingluo has Erqing killed.

Yes, I loved her in that. Well, she was much older, of course, and that drama had a better plot.

Yes. I think the last time he was on screen was when the main leads were set upon by the double crossing uncle in the third life arc.

Nothing happened to him. They never really tied up the loose ends of his romance with Ting Yan's friend. Their storyline kind of fizzled out.

The strongest part of this drama was the great chemistry between the main leads. I loved the romance and how there wasn't any will they/won't they nonsense. The weakest is definitely the plot. There just wasn't much of a story.
