I differ from your opinion. Yes he knew that Alex would convince flora, but he would have thought that flora will not leave. Also the fact that she hid things from him is a trigger. I don't think luke sees no future, he do believe or else he wouldn't have realised how harsh he was and begged her not to break up with him.
