Can we talk about Jeremy Tsui’s magnificent performance and outstanding costume in this drama?
In his past livestream, Jeremy shared he enjoyed playing GMD, it is different than any other character he played. I’d say GMD is an iconic villain—and Jeremy absolutely nailed it.
"Chant of the Water Dragon" is the story of Tang Lici who must uncover the full extent of the entities…
Fortunately, seasoned actors help balance out newer ones. On data, long-time data watcher knows SLY data is very good. I’ve seen front-end data for popular 🥭 dramas from ‘22–‘25. Compared SLY’s daily trendline with 🥭 popular drama in the past 3 yrs. SLY daily data is mimicking human clock activity. One can easily glance whether it is dry or water.
Yunhe assigned SLY a historically low coefficient, some days as low as 0.06. But all other data tells a different story: SLY’s trend is clean, consistent, and strong. SLY data graphics go up everywhere but Yunhe. With revelation of Migu’s unsuccessful bidding with Yunhe, we know why. Douban rating—this is a place where even LYX’s fanbase, largely working professionals, didn’t bother to rate it. And people who don’t understand mock “protection fees,” where it is actually just a simple advertising fees, offered by dozens of platforms since 2022.
What’s funny is that LYX holds both Yunhe’s highest and lowest historical records. His Runyu was the only character to ever top Yunhe’s character chart for over 1100 consecutive days until it was banned (2018–2021); most don’t even hit 10% of that. His SLY now holds Yunhe’s lowest coefficient ever. If we recalculate based on actual viewership trends, SLY’s real performance is likely 5–6x higher than Yunhe’s reported figure (other drama airing the same time got 0.5-0.6 “normal Yunhe coefficient”)
Finished—what a beautiful and fitting ending. The lesson from this story? Letting go of obsession. From YYY’s…
One life in exchange for the world, One life in exchange for the people you care for….I would do it in a heartbeat. Does it matter the world will remember me as the hero? It would be nice….but having all of them alive counts so much more……
Finished—what a beautiful and fitting ending. The lesson from this story? Letting go of obsession. From YYY’s obsession on TLC, to TLC’s obsession to FZ, LY’s obsession to TLC, and SLH’s obsession for his late wife.
There is not enough appreciation here the incredible cast of SLY
Luo Yunxi—everyone knows how you breathe life into your roles. Your screen presence is top notch. I cried because I truly believed Tang Li Ci was real, not just a character. I truly feel your pain when you lost people who you care, I feel your emotion from beginning to end. There is so many acting highlights, you always outdo yourself from character to character….Waiting for you next character.
And Allen Fang—wow. You really surprised me. LY is such a complex role, and you nailed it. Allen deserves the applaud, I was not familiar with you before. But I ALWAYS remember good actor and actress.
Miss Hong actress is one to watch, her screen presence and the way she brought her character alive consistently from beginning to end. Seems easy but this character is difficult to portray.
Shout out to the young actor playing GMD’s puppet. What a presence. What a talent there in such a young age.
One of my favorite scenes was TLC and GMD in episode 35. The tension, the emotion, both actor screen presence—excellent. The last time I felt something like that was in Ashes of Love with Yang Zi and LYX. But I knew Jeremy will deliver, I bet he enjoyed playing GMD as well.
Thank you for this beautiful story.
P.S. I’m not into romance drama in the past few years—they just don’t hit me anymore. But this? This the type of story I really like.
SLY : The venerable ones and ShizunShadow Punisher/Phantom detective: Moran and Shizun. And wait till you get…
Have you watch his 5 series documentary on Tibetan Palace? It's an excellent one esp if you enjoy his voice, he has improved so much. Especially his best buddy now is Nezha's voice actor LOL. I posted the 1st series in the LYX actor page. This palace color schemes also translate to some of his TLC clothing.
The design followed ancient God statues. The design team spent weeks inside Dunhuang Grotto (fr 366AD) scanning pigments from 45,000 sq m murals, then used AI to identify the ancient pigments to recreate the costume and use it as base color in many of TLC costume. It’s a piece of cultural heritage—kudos to the producer willing to spend to highlight the wonderful Chinese cultural heritage.
Let me also point out that the producer has chosen to elevate 3 F characters better than the novel—Xifang Tao, A Shui, and ZCJ—while not doing so for the 3 M characters. Additionally, this is the 1st C drama production to provide comfortable RV for supporting actors to rest beyond the six 6 supporting roles, a privilege traditionally reserved only for the male and female leads.
I’ve waited for SLY since Sept ‘22, and it exceeded my expectation. I’m following Qiyi schedule, wt🥭 unlocking all eps this Friday, TOO MUCH spoilers have flooded in. We’re are starting the arc where TLC confronts his past, and I want to savor every moment slowly without knowing what’s coming. The scriptwriter is brilliant.
Despite fierce competition and a non -summer vacation airing, the data has been really good—esp Mango only has 8–12% market share and Migu views not even counted anywhere. I won’t be updating anymore. SLY is 💪
Among TLC’s 5 companions, from novel to screen, Chi Yun is my favorite. The actor brought him to life better than the original. Every time he appears, the atmosphere lifts.
Among the actresses, Ms. Hong’s actress impressed me most. my 1st time seeing her, and she nailed Ms. Hong character. An actor’s job is to serve the role, whether protagonist or antagonist—and she did just that. For me, she’s the best actress in this drama.
We have many seasoned actors in SLY, and as expected, they delivered. Regardless of limited screen time a good actor can shine, looking at you Jeremy, so little screen time but impactful, GMD is Eerie.
Luo Yunxi—he’s a master of complex character creation, with a deep understanding of his roles. Many directors, screenwriters, novel authors, and producers have all spoken about how LYX’s grasp of character has surprised them since 7 yrs ago. Luo Yunxi has earned a reputation in the industry for elevating his character beyond his character script. The more complex the better.
As LYX himself says: “AT THE END, AFTER ALL THE NOISE IS GONE, WHAT REMAINS IS CHARACTER” He knows his job: to serve the role better than script, to create Classics.
