For Otter: Immortality, TTEOTM, Water Dragon Song (Chinese translation) no official english name yet adapted from Qiān jié méi novel. It is a wuxia drama fr famous IP. ML name Tang Lici a super powerful cultivator wt white hair who is ruthless and crazy.

Yeah he already took 3 days off to do live broadcast and filming endorsement. I think he will also take 1-2 days off for his B day and perhaps also if his new endorsement is announced, he might hv to attend event wt them. Normally wt Leo, he does not want to leave filming if possible.

This I agree, Ren Ming having a magnolia nomination when she is barely 20 is a big shout out that she is GREAT actress. BUT she should stay in her movie roles and main stream realistic drama where she really shines, after all all idol actress wants to be her.
Venturing to Xianxia, esp C audience is v sensitive to " beauty" when it comes to Xianxia both ML and FL. To make it worst she is pair wt XZ, imagine she is pair wt Leo as well, not going to be well accepted.

This is the same thing wt FL in ancient love poetry. She is a movie star why bother with drama, and she also does not look convincing as the most beautiful fairy.

Netflix tends to buy C Drama that has popular actor that that their drama are well received, Like Yang2 and ZX, also Xu Kai. TLP is ZX drama. They also seem to buy more from Tencent.

And Yeah, TTJ various shades of grey, playing Hero and Villain with God of war side charactes, 6 characters (incl 3 Demon Gods) and 8 personalities all in one drama is LYX once in a life time luck. But one that he gave full justice for each character and personalities.

TTOETM full achievement on that link, it tops all data company on so many aspects. It would be pretty hard for any costume drama this year to beat TTOETM. Even TLP data at this point is still far bellow TTOETM. Actually TYM, popularity is very high bcs of XZ but the ttl views/eps is not great.

I don't know details, each data comp calculates differently. Datawin is abt popularity, mostly weibos, we chat, douyin. While Cloud and Yunhe concentrate on market shares, live comment etc.

Other artist wt. Leo huge explosion in ‘18 if his team is good would be like Dyan/Gong Jun, Xiao Zhan/ Yibo etc. But Runyu explosion did not get him good drama & endorsements. His agency is way too weak. But his data in ’18-’19 is extremely good; Leo stays on top of Yunhe no 1 artist for 3 yrs. in the row (18-19-20) bcs of his Runyu, who is the only character in C drama to ever stay on top of Yunhe top 30 for over 1000+ days straight. This list was abolished in Aug 21. His Rong Qi as 3rd ML dominates all data for months.

How he got HYX: a true S+ drama. The novel 2ha just out, not popular. Sev 2ha fans made casting video, none popular. Everyone not convinced any actor can play CWN, until they saw Runyu. The fans cut using Runyu went viral, Quantum Ent saw, bought the IP sold it to Tencent, formed Otter Studio to make HYX. Took Tencent months to convince Leo to take HYX (playing BL has risk looked at XZ, ZZH etc) Leo refused, but Tencent persisted and offered him 3 S/S+ drama bundles. Leo had no choice must take HYX, offending Tencent is a stupid move. Tencent had to wait 9 months for his schedule to clear.

Once it is confirmed Leo will play, 2ha novel popularity went to the roof. HYX stayed at Datawin mostly no 1 pretty much all year long, highly anticipated. The most drama with the most proxy photographer in history. The most expensive leaks ever sold in China is LYX – CWN 1st day filming. Investor saw how Leo made HYX super popular. He is the one and only CWN (another v difficult role to nail).

Also, in ’20 his ATWIL costume although not good plot, performed extremely well wt. 3.2 billion views (multiple platform: Qiyi, Tencent & Youku). TTEOTM finished with 2.8 billion on Youku alone. Just to compare the explosive power of LYX costume.

Otters seems v satisfied with Leo performance while filming HYX, they did not hide it. It’s a big difference how otter praises LYX vs other actors. They had sev other IP novel to buy and asked Leo which one he likes, he picked TTEOTM. This happened right after HYX wrapped up filming.

That’s the story of LYX and his costume casting. His next one wt. Otter. His comp bought the IP will work with Otter to film, rumour said starts Sept. But his agency said starts Q4. This happened last year, bfr TTEOTM air, HYX can’t air. Investor not stupid, they study the real data and know Leo ability to carry drama bcs his acting is that good.
3 S+ drama of Otter with LYX is pretty much close to 1 Billion RMB.

Yes, imo it is more Leo made TTJ and Leo made TTEOTM shine.
That's why he was in since the beginning. Some other casts not reading the novel, but Leo did, he accepted this based on the novel, there was no script yet back in September 2020.

The novel helped him shaped his characters better but he said he always read the source material. I think it was wrong that director told others no need to read the novel.
