Xiao Chengrui, the Emperor, is the father
That line is very thin especially in those times: a wife is obligated to the husband. No matter how unwilling she may be, it is seen as her duty to please the husband. Denying the husband may trigger his wrath which I think Mingyu wants to avoid.

IKR! Haunted me for many months. Until today, I still listen to the OSTs - some of the best.

Episode 36 - The Emperor was put in a dilemma, save wanyin or mingyu. Honestly, this was such a sad moment, since…
I don't really think it's a dilemma at all; it's pretty obvious that he should save Mingyu and not Wanyin because Mingyu is being poisoned whereas the latter wants to kill herself. Logically he should save the one who wants to live and abandon the one who doesn't.

This is one of those dramas where:A. You're a masochist and love the pain that comes with these kinds of storylinesORB.…
Guess I belong to group A i.e. I like to be tortured (nah, not really). This story feels like what it would have happened in real life - there's no HEA and things keep happening not as planned. Nonetheless, most historical dramas released these days are very light-hearted and fairytale like, whereas this one is heavy and realistic. I guess that's why I am sticking with it despite the hopelessness and helplessness I'm experiencing in almost every episode.

Seems like all the historicals we're watching are heading down the same path. All 3 of them!
Hahaha! Not really all 66. Just place there wanting to watch but never get the chance to because so many new releases almost everyday. I like watching airing dramas because the discussions are active. Old dramas tend to be very quiet. I don't like watching by myself :D Guess I'm going to shelve some of the dramas for now so that my list doesn't look so crazy XD

By episode 36:
Oh, they should also eventually unravel what leads to Wanyin's death. A bit of unrealistic detective work here, not surprisingly Mingyu would become the Sherlock Holmes.

By episode 36:
I wonder if they ever find out the actual culprit for the death of Xiao Qiheng (Helan Wanyin's baby). Maybe it'll come as a karma on Shu Fei's (Consort Shu's) own child.

I should create a voting list of Cheng Yi's adversaries / villains. Hao Chen for me still takes the cake, but…
Hahaha! True!

U got the same thought as me.
I discount that thought now because I think this is what the writers are trying to do: to create suspicion for the Emperor that this is not his child. Not up to that point yet, so this is just speculation.

su yuying is so annoying
I thought when Su Yuying saves Xiao Chengxu, she has redeemed herself. But then she throws herself into the pit again. It is hard to change the character of a person. She'll always be that nasty, ill-hearted person. Poor Chengxu having to tolerate such a evil character in his household.

Yes, the characters are similar in terms of enduring all the pains, but also different in a way. For me, as mortal Xiao Chengxu, he is more painful.

I know Mingyu and Chengxu would never commit adultery. But her baby comes early. Could it be that she's conceived even before she sleeps with the Emperor on her birthday? Well, just a wishful thought :<
