I think in most romances, one of the draws is how each devote to the other, no matter what, in death or otherwise. That's how the stories can draw tears and heartbreak from viewers. Ahhh! Yes, what you say make a lot of sense. When a popular novel is adapted to a drama, the readers really dislike it when the scriptwriters change the story because often such changes really mess up the story and make it illogical with plot holes. As in this case, I think they mess up the Ju Lin Er character, among others.
