Hardly, perhaps just a brief one for the side couple. Even without romance, it's a good watch.

I don't know how they write the Huirou character in the novel and in the drama, but according to historical record, she died tragically at 33 and Huaiji died soon after, heartbroken. I want to cry ....

Yes, one has to be super patient with this drama. There're no actions as such that drama viewers normally acquaint with, no actual antagonists, no real plots that give the aha moments, etc. Despite all these, I love this drama for its portrayal of the great 8 (not sure if there're 8 of them here), beautiful ci written by them, and sung. Makes me feel as if I was from that era.

I was a teenager once, and I wasn't as smart as you guys are. I chose poorly, thinking only about love, which in retrospect I knew nothing about. So I can empathize with Huirou; she's like the millions runaway girls in today's world when their boyfriends are being banished by their parents.

She's actually the one who has the best personality. She's kind, thoughtful, and upstanding, that's why Huaiji loves her so much. Imagine if you're not allowed to love the one that you love very much but forced to marry someone you don't love at all, how would you feel? She's heart broken, feeling hopeless and helpless. If not for the encouragement from Huaiji, she has no will to live at all. It's really very tragic. I think she dies young too, probably due to unhappiness after her marriage. It's so sad. Life was harsh.

What you say make so much sense. Yes, a younger man falls in love with an older woman normally it's because he's attracted to her maturity - she doesn't behave like a girl his age and she's not naive. But for this drama, the FL is so immature emotionally whereas the ML is the more mature one, hence balances out the overall relationship.

I'm watching this because I like Arthur Chen though he didn't act very well the last time. This time, he's matured a lot, but still his acting confuses me. The dialogues in this drama is so childish and lack substance. I guess the high rating is because of Arthur Chen's fans?

I don't know what to make out of this. Is it supposed to be silly and comedic?

When I finished my first viewing, I came out and asked, "What BL? Where? Didn't see any." I know I was slow catching on :)

Like many viewers who still haven't watched this drama, I shied away from it when I first saw the BL tag. Then I tiptoed back, and oh boy, I was so wrong! This drama blew me away. There was no obvious BL. I only caught the BL parts upon multiple viewings because they are so subtle and cleverly hidden in symbols, music, gestures, naming of items, clothing, etc. Re-watching this drama is like peeling an onion, you find more hints each time. It's an eye opening experience for me to see how beautiful things can be even it's not a hetero relationship. Have I also mentioned I cried a river for the sad as well as the happy scenes? Yes, ask anyone who has watched it. The two main leads are so captivating, the music unforgettable, and putting everything together, yes, this is indeed a masterpiece. A MUST-WATCH!

As much as I dislike Zhang Bihan, she is pitiful. What a tragic life!

Yes, the poetic dialogues are beautiful. Once translated, the feelings are totally gone.
