This isn't a great novel to adapt... Ideally they cast someone in the post 85/90s age range for the ML who can wear glasses and looks like he's a believable, reliable tech entrepreneur (e.g. Wei Daxun, Lin Gengxin, Miles Wei, Johnny Huang, Li Xian or Oliver Chen since he looks older) and the FL is a beautiful actress (cnetz suggest Jing Tian, NiNi, Hu Lianxin... because of their colorful love lives but Wang Churan is also suitable i guess) The plot is terribly makjang and unsuitable for young actors IMO:
1. The ML is the son of a CCP cadre, from Tsinghua Uni and is a successful entrepreneur selling electric cars or some sh*t (in the novel he's also a young CCP cadre but it's changed) , he's in his mid 20s when he meets the FL who is an undergraduate at Beijing Film Academy (i think...) when she's paid to sing and entertain business people.
2. The FL is a poor student at a prestigious film school, her mum is a single parent. She takes on a lot of part time jobs and meets the ML and falls in love (ML often has stomachaches and the FL is good at making congee to sooth him), but also gets sexually harassed by his business associate (there's terrible violence involved jeez this is not kosher for tv, iirc he shoots her with a gun after thinking she cheated but it was his friend harassing her) and they break up. After she graduates she's basically a nobody in the entertainment industry and does small roles.
3. Their backgrounds are too dissimilar and a source of regular conflict, the ML's mum and grandma force them to breakup because they find actresses to be a low class profession plus she's from a poor background.
4. The ML dates another more popular actress and visits Hengdian where he runs into the FL who's doing small bit part roles, they argue, and he realises he's still in love with her. They get back together but know their backgrounds are incompatible and eventually split. The ML marries someone from a similar background to fulfil his family expectations but he still quietly tries to help the FL by getting her acting gigs (in the novel she wins Best Actress in her 30s with his help... lol)
5. The FL's mum falls ill and tells her who her biological father is on her deathbed, he's a wealthy influential businessman lol errrr. So the FL is suddenly upgraded in status after reuniting with her dad.
6. The FL is pursued by a 2nd ML who works for her bio father. The ML finds out the truth about her birth secret and gets jealous that the FL accepted the advances of someone else. Thus even though his marriage is happy, he decides to divorce and chase the FL again.
7. The FL finds the ML very pitiful and gets back with him. His grandma and mum finally accept her because she's a rich so-and-so's daughter (ugh) and they live happily ever after with 3 kids in their 40s.
This is for actors in their 30s (or they must look older e.g. Wang Churan & Oliver Chen), i really doubt young newbies can bring out the makjang ηθ‘ε³ tone of the novel and be able to portray the relationship between teens to 20s to almost 40. I've seen a cut of Jing Tian & Lin Gengxin and it fits really well, Jing Tian's personal life mirrors the plot a bit so I doubt she'll take the role, it's too close to her real life bc she famous dated someone high up in Tencent who got her movie gigs but they broke up eventually and she returned to dramas.

He is from a rich family in Shenzhen (he speaks and sings in Cantonese quite well, i like that) and he was in an idol boy group with Neo Hou before disbanding and joining acting. In China at least they distinguish it very clearly e.g. there's η§ηθ± or η§ηη aka the popular actors & actresses who graduated from the Big 3 acting schools (sometimes Communication University of China is included, then it's Big 4 but the Big 3 is more prestigious) aka Beijing Film Academy, Central Academy of Drama, Shanghai Theatre Academy. These are the schools that all actor wannabe highschoolers audition for in China, and those that don't make it enrol in other less prestigious art schools or universitues e.g. Shanghai Institute of Visual Art (Zhang Miao Yi, Zhou Yutong) etc.
Bai Lu is a liuliang ζ΅ιθ± like Esther Yu, Rosy Zhao, Yang Chaoyue etc, they aren't trained but because they have strong agency backing and strong internet fandom (they regularly post on Douyin, XHS, Weibo to keep their traffic and fandom interested) so they are considered traffic stars. Some liuliangs can be from the Big 3 schools e.g. Yangzi, Jackson Yee, Karry Wang (they are all famous child stars who attended acting school) but most aren't.
