This is an interesting take because i always thought a lot of the new dramas nowadays have worst production quality…
yes it felt like a movie! Honestly i actually struggle with a lot of the newer dramas because the cinematography can look plastic looking or fake. It's hard to describe. Like for example I love the natural cinematography in The Double and how the video takes up the whole screen of my laptop. But in the drama The Glory the screen takes up half my laptop, and it has this weird plastic vibe to it, I really don't know how to put it into words... I think its the aspect ratio...

Yeah personally I thought the production quality of this drama was beautiful. Especially the scenes were Xiaofeng is dressed in red and is on a horse. I also thought the cinematography was beautiful as well, so I'm not really sure why people say its poor lol. A drama I thought was terrible was Princess Agents and that was only from 2017 I think, poor dubbing, lighting etc
I finished this drama in 7 days! It was amazing! Perfect from start to finish! I cried so much as well which I didn't expect. The trailers/posters/promos don't do this drama justice! Its incredible 😭😭
what type of dramas do you like I can recommend some?
we love the same type of dramas! hope you find something nice to watch after your exams :) and yes I love kdramas and cdramas equally, its not a competition to me lol. But I have been watching more cdramas recently because they release more costume dramas, whereas there have been barely any historical kdramas released this year
what type of dramas do you like I can recommend some?
1. Joy of Life, has lots of action 2. Whispers of Fate, is an incredible fantasy drama 3. Fangs of Fortune is much slower paced, watch for the character developments and gorgeous cinematography 4. Veil of Shadows, done by the same director 5. My journey to you, wuxia 6. Legend of Fu Yao, longer fantasy drama 7. The Untamed, bromance, fantasy drama 8. Till the end of the moon, toxic relationship, lots of fantasy fights
what type of dramas do you like I can recommend some?
I only watch costume dramas so I'll recommend some of my faves. If you want to find more dramas click on my profile I've organised them into gifs and categories. 1. Joy of Life (season 1 &2 my all time favourite drama keep watching till ep 7 thats when it really picks up) 2. Blossoms in adversity, follows a fallen noble family. Ive cried buckets watching this, really heartwarming too 3. The Double, epic double revenge plot 4. Prisoner of Beauty, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage 5. Goodbye My Princess, angsty, toxic relationship, gorgeous cinematography I love kdramas too: 1. My Dearest, epic grand sweeping love story 2. Empress Ki (yes its 50 episodes but not once is it boring!) Very fast paced. Follows a maid who ends up the Empress of the Yuan dynasty (ancient China) 3. Mr Queen, if you want comedy. A male chef wakes up in the body of a Joseon Queen, hijinks and hilarities ensue. This drama is so funny.
This is definitely a more romance-heavy story versus plot-heavy. I'm here for the romance and even though I don't…
I actually liked Gu Tingye he has a very reckless personality 😂. I'm used to the cold male lead dynamics so it was quite refreshing to follow a man who was basically a hot mess. I'll keep the show on my list but yeah if the second half is mainly romance I might get a bit bored
I wouldn’t say that the plot of this drama is meaty and as well developed as TSoML. I think to most viewers…
FoF is good but its slow paced and its also fantasy so it depends on if you like that. Its also a Bromance drama (the romance plot is really flimsy). Visuals are insane though. The director is known for his gorgeous cinematography
I checked dramas in you've wathed or plan to watch and I see you do love meaty plots, I can see how a person could…
His fanbase is nuts. I watched his drama Legend of Zang Hai. I remember leaving comments about the drama and being attacked left right and center for literally nothing

The FL for Rebel Princess is so beautiful so I can forgive her for acting like a 15 year old😂😭
My anticipated dramas, no 1 is spring of the blade. I want to watch it so bad, it has a dark revenge plot like the Double. Love the color grading for the drama. Its so moody. You should check out the trailer when you have the chance. I'm also waiting for Chasing Dreams. Yang Zi's new drama The Heir has dropped. Its centered around an ink business though which i'm not in the mood for. I want to watch something more glamorous lol. But yeah this year (2026) the only cdrama I've watched is story of minglan so I really want to change that.
I tried watching legend of fuyao but the drama got super irritating.
Legend of Xiao Chuo costumes remind me of Goodbye My Princess which is why I want to watch it lol.
The emperor is so charismatic in JOL! He kinda scares me too lol. And I love the poems so much. I remember rewatching that scene so many times.
Thank you so much for the recs of FLs dressed beautifully 💕 looking forward to the list too! I need to get over my fear of Qing dynasty men hair, because the women look stunning!
Yes I feel the same about NiF! I think its a drama you have to be in the mood for. My head was hurting while watching it. Not to mention the colour grading is terrible everybody looks green.
I think I need a drama I'll love right away like Empress Ki (which if you havent seen you should)

Wow youre making the rebel princess sound so good. I just watched the trailer based on what you said and the production value is crazy, wow what was the budget!! I'm hesitating just because I have some anticipated dramas that I'm waiting for. I was also considering watching Legend of Xiao Chuo but idk 😭
I watched s1 and 2 of Joy of Life back to back and loved them both equally. I think because i watched it continuously i dont feel the need to compare them because it continues the story. In s2 the ML lost so much weight, he is so handsome but it was very shocking to see him like that but I got used to it. The cinematography, costumes and colour grading is SO much better in season 2 its gorgeous to watch. I also have a crush on Fan Xian 😂 so anything he does interesting to me he is so charismatic. In terms of the plot twist I was shocked. What was even more shocking is the fact that its not really a historical drama!
I recently watched 10 eps of nirvana in fire after i finished Empress Ki but I just can't get into it. I think my expectations are too high i was expecting a masterpiece like Joy of Life but everytime i watch it im quite bored.. i deffo want to give it another try someday but I'm really in the mood to see a FL dressed beautifully
