Are they just chatting and chilling? There's a lot going on in those scenes. Those stories XY tells are important…
Again very insightful. Did you write an essay after finishing this drama? As I'm watching I'm making notes, and I'm also aware the drama is 60+ eps so I haven't even scratched the surface of the story it wants to tell.
I agree with you about the emotional violence. The FL doesn't seem that disturbed by the violence done to her, however if she feels an emotional wrong has been done, for example when Tushan Jing (still learning the names, but the guy she saves) when he wasn't there for her when the other ML came with his sister to get the antidote, she was very affected by that and froze him out a lot, especially as he promised to always be there for her and he broke that promise.
The blood sucking stuff did take me off guard but I do enjoy vampires, Interview with a vampire is one of my favourite tv shows and I haven't seen any cdramas featuring vampires before.
Overall I'm really liking the pace of the story, it isn't fast so it allows you to settle into the world and its characters. I also enjoy character driven stories as well, and I have so many questions. Because I remember they said the FL was supposed to go with the Grandma, the Empress Dowager, so I was wondering how she ended up in the snake's lair in the first place...

Hmm this does give me a lot to think about. It did make me feel uncomfortable, especially with how inconsistent he is with his actions. I do think he is abusive and there does exist a power balance between him and the FL as well as issues of consent. He will just grab her neck and start biting her. The dynamic sort of reminds me of toxic BL manhwas that have dubious consent and abuse and are sort of layered in complexity. But I did find his behaviour quite absurd.
I also appreciate your point that he is not a man, and technically the FL isnt "just a woman either" being an immortal/deity, it does make me look at the way she and others behave very differently.
But will keep what you said in mind the next time he knocks her off a tree 😂
Okay im on like ep 8 of LYF, Xiang Liu is always hurting the FL, whipping her, knocking her off a tree and breaking her leg, causing her to split blood and have nosebleeds. Like is he well???? They'll be chatting and chilling then he will knock her of the tree. Like WHAT crazy man
For some reason i only watched 9 eps of this, i think because it was currently airing and I was also watching Game of Thrones at the same time..anyway im planning on finishing it around christmas time, it really gives me wintery vibes
It already picked up a few times (for example, there was a lot of tension around Nihuang selecting a husband),…
For Joy of Life it was when they revealed its not really a historical drama. Basically the world was frozen and then had been unfrozen. Im probably not explaining it well but its set in the future and not the past that was very trippy. And ofc the secrets surrounding Fan Xian. I've got up to ep 25 of NiF and Ive paused it again. I thought ep 20-23 was super exciting and then it slowed down again... Some people on reddit tried to convince me to keep watching to ep 30 and you've said the same so I might try again loll but its been such a mixed viewing experience, i loved joy of life right away, but I dont really find the characters in NiF that compelling. I do want to try and finish it though so I can see what all the fuss is about, but I'm kind of scared of being really bored again and then dropping it for the fifth time lol. But honestly youve inspired me to keep going till i reach ep 30 and see if i like it then
The opening intro for this drama is gorgeous. Its such a shame now that studios are using AI to make intros when they used to make such beautiful ones for their dramas :(
