"The show isn't focusing enough on the relationship" isn't really dissent in my book, it just makes it clear that we're looking at the series completely differently. No wonder those of us who are invested in Jae-won's character arc are more engaged with the show and the story it's telling.
You're all gonna hate me for saying this cuz the love is so ardent for this show, but I have felt it losing steam…
Just goes to show people's opinions will always differ. I thought it was a bit bland starting out, very similar to other shows in its setup, while through the next four episodes it has become a lot more stylistically adventurous and ambitious, playing both with linearity and making bold editing choices to underline its main character's ongoing mental journey.
Calling Jae-won's issues a "distraction" that is "external to the relationship at hand" is absurd to me, suggesting you only care about boys kissing each other and not the story. If you view the show through that lens, of course you'll be disappointed that other things are happening that are not just about Jae-won and Ji-Hyun making heart eyes at each other.
I was obsessed with this show after the first two eps but after ep 3 and 4 not as much( i still absolutely love…
I see what you mean, but I think it's a bit reductive to reduce someone's trauma over losing a brother to being "kinda a red flag". And that trauma, and how Jae-won ultimately will overcome it, is central to the show and to the dynamic between Jae-won and Ji-hyun.
I don't think it's dumb. He's under an enormous amount of pressure from his family as the sole heir, and he's still dealing with trauma. Him temporarily going back to his ex would be a normal human response, because she's familiar and someone his dad could possibly approve of (unlike a man). But that's different than them ending up together, obviously.
I really like the sort of retro vibe of this show. Many throwbacks to shows of the late 90s/early 2000s. Excellent pair of lead actors with great chemistry; they complement each other. Four more to go!
I really enjoyed this, though it would have been much better at 20-25 minutes like Semantic Error, as they would have been able to flesh out the characters more and some of the scenes. At times it felt almost like sketches of a story, because story beats were introduced but then over in minutes.
I'm also glad that I downloaded the episodes so that I could adjust the brightness and saturation, because I felt the overall visual look of the show was too bright and desaturated (colorless). But very good show!
Allegedly they are editing Yoo Ah-in almost completely out of the drama. And Ahn Eun-jin too because she plays…
That sounds impossible and would likely render the show unwatchable. Either they should release it as is, do reshoots, or just shelve it. Trying to edit out the *lead* is a foolish decision. At any rate, I'm not going to watch this unless it's released as originally filmed, with Yoo Ah-in.
It seems the voters did not watch many dramas in this past year. I'm happy to see Little Women with some nominations, but the screenplay was its weakest component. Where is Kim Go-eun?
Huh, will it be released in 2025? https://n.news.naver.com/article/293/0000043165
The general contract the production company has signed with Netflix runs until 2025. Filming is about to start, so I would guess that it will have a spring 2024 release date. I would be very surprised if the drama is held for 2025, but of course unforeseen things could occur.
