What's interesting in the series is that they acknowledge everyone flaws and faults without judging.
Judging is for judges and they are not here to file a lawsuit.
Acknowledging is being aware and they are not here to make a romcom k-drama.

Jane Patrick, the "villain", is forceful, violent, manipulative, yet he can still love and feel heartbroken.
Little Jane, "the good guy", is kind and able to forgive but he uses his honesty/straightforwardness as a weapon, knowing where it hurts.

No need to take "sides". Let's just be the informed witness of a deeply flawed relationship, where imbalance of power and mistrust play a huge role in tainting it.

And Love in all of this ?
- it is not enough
- it is not always right
- it is not a magic eraser of imbalance of power.

So we have those who are Team Jane Patrick.
And those who are Team Little Jane.
But where are those who are Little Jane and Jane Patrick team ?
No really, in the end, I'm a CP fan first 😭😭

No need for explanation. Jane Patrick almost strangling Put is him already guessing about what happens...After all, he knows Put is interested in Little Jane since the beginning, when Put tries to do a contract with him, in order to make him stay away from Little Jane...It's no use in fact.

And I have to admit it. This episode was the most uncomfortable for me to watch. Not even episode 5, in fact, manages to do that.

As a viewer, since the beginning, I feel more sympathy for Little Jane. And after all the horrible things Jane Patrick has done...

But seeing Jane Patrick able to cry, to admit his love and letting go there...
I was conflicted.
I could not accept it.
I cry with him. I cry with them.
I was humbled.

Or maybe this is just cognitive dissonance ? 😭

And Little Jane has guts, indeed. The conversation in that car ? Into Jane Patrick's face ! What a character 👏👏
"Have you ever tried to understand anyone else ?"
"Do I have to thank you for this ?"
"Do you even know that what you're doing is toxic as hell ?"

This series confronts you with your own contradictions as a viewer.

That's why it's so unsettling and uncomfortable. That's why it's SMART.

If you're blinded by Jane Patrick's character, you'll end up victim-blaming Little Jane.

But there's also another form of blindness.

If you're blinded by Little Jane's character, you'll also forget that even a "monster", a "devil" is a human being.

And that's a terrible truth.

Episode 6, you'll always be remembered as the episode where Big Jane was the greenest we have ever seen (except for the punch and the strangling, but this was mild compared to the previous ones). For once in his life, he's been able to do the right thing. 👌

blood pacts or any kind of blood oath can have also different meanings. in the case of Jane P. it has a sinister meaning (unless there's a repressed desire to feel "deeply" connected to others). But blood pacts don't necessarily have that one.

It often symbolizes a deep bond : friendship, brotherhood (blood brothers), protection , family, etc. It some cultures, it is linked with trust and peace, loyalty, and breaking that pact can also bring misfortune and death. It is supposed to be unbreakable.

So as usual, there's an ambiguity in the tools that Jane P. uses.

The spike in those lockets also make me think about the teeth of the vampire too...

Also the fact that Jane P. almost breaks his promise and doesn't apply to himself the first rule of the contract, is followed by near death situations (oh Jane P. escapes death two times, that's weird...). mmmmh misfortune is definitely already there...

My interpretation about what makes him stop is because of the irony of the 1st rule of the contract : "don't be too emotional".
Little Jane being "emotional" doesn't really bother him in the piano scene. But his anger and jealousy makes him act in such a way that's in fact "too emotional" (which is seen in the car scene). That is like losing control on himself when he's usually the one in control. He almost can't keep his promise. He already shows that he himself cannot apply the first rule to himself...Thus becoming like the others he so "despises" for not respecting obligation and breaking the contracts he established, etc. For the first time, he finds himself in the position of those breaking contracts.

I don't know if it's going to be supernatural because the series is not exactly like the novel apparently. and there are still more episodes to come. But it's a very interesting series, with a unique feel. there's something different. The atmosphere of mystery and danger ? I don't know.

"The second a writer loses sense and starts pushing for drama and reactions". Exactly. But it does not seem the case for now in the series for me but I can be wrong of course. But some of the reactions are also really puzzling : the "don't show it, it's too long, why -gasp- AGAIN ? don't talk about it, let's ignore it, etc." It's like in those families when everyone knows what happens but they don't want to see the elephant in the room so to speak...or use "mild" words to qualify it...It's like they want to erase the "traumatic" aspect of it because it disturbs the "peace".

"It's hard to respect or enjoy a show once it hijacks your peace, and I fully respect anyone dropping out if they are uncomfortable. " Yes, in the end, people decide what they want to watch and if it's too much for them (and triggering), it's understandable they don't want to watch it anymore. That's why the rating on Iqiyi is 18+ too. But there's something else I wonder about : people who complain about"toxic stories" always seem to forget that sometimes people with traumas can also watch, even seek triggering media. I'll let them at least think about that and about the reasons why some viewers might do so.

"can we get toxic stroy and still respect intimacy boundaries"... it would make no sense considering how the character is...and considering the contract made...and considering many other things. The SA scenes shown in the series are not gratuitous, at all. They are not also depicted as something "enjoyable", like in many other series, where the victim is suddenly "enjoying" it at the end. They could have made them like in the pilot teaser. They DECIDED not to. And maybe that's why people cannot "forgive" this series for spoiling now their "enjoyment" of a "spicy" story (rather than the depiction of a true "toxic" relationship...).
They said it since the beginning. Jane Patrick is a red flag. He's not a "nice", a "sweet" guy. Respecting boundaries would mean having empathy. Do you really think that such a character can respect someone else ? He despises everyone. When Little Jane breaks up with him, Jane Patricks says he's like the others and that he will crawl back to him...Do you really think after the break up and seeing his reaction, with Little Jane literally binding himself to him with a contract, Jane Patrick will respect those intimacy boundaries ? Even when in the first "intimate" scene, he was pressuring already a lot Little Jane (and sweet-talking) in order to do it ? But now with someone directly at his mercy ? The inequality, the imbalance of power basically imply that those boundaries will sooner or later not be respected ! "Words are not enough !!!!!, Jane Patricks says at the beginning of episode 5" He expects sex, do you understand ? And if Little Jane does not give him that, he will take it, because the contract says so and because he wants it ! Little Jane is "indebted to him" and Jane Patrick has "bought" him while dealing with the debt. But maybe later, who knows (?) and since the series has not ended yet, a miracle will happen...and Jane Patrick will stop being a "complete" villain. After all Thai series always tend to salvage those kind of characters at some point...But if they don't at the end, this will be a true surprise for me (and a courageous/risky one too).

I've not read the novel (and I'm not sure I want to in fact 😭) but I don't see this as romance since the beginning...more like a twisted attraction etc.

I need to read some info about this too 😭. But I've read also that narcissists can become really obsessed too, especially when they're losing control.

in fact this series is quite coherent with the psychological aspect of the story. After all they didn't talk about cognitive dissonance for nothing (you can also look for information about narcissists and cognitive dissonance...).
