Fascinating psychological breakdowns in here š I just assumed there is background we just haven't got to yet…
"It's hard to respect or enjoy a show once it hijacks your peace, and I fully respect anyone dropping out if they are uncomfortable. " Yes, in the end, people decide what they want to watch and if it's too much for them (and triggering), it's understandable they don't want to watch it anymore. That's why the rating on Iqiyi is 18+ too. But there's something else I wonder about : people who complain about"toxic stories" always seem to forget that sometimes people with traumas can also watch, even seek triggering media. I'll let them at least think about that and about the reasons why some viewers might do so.
The sa scene was very long, very disturbing, can we get toxic stroy and still respect intimacy boundaries , Patrick…
"can we get toxic stroy and still respect intimacy boundaries"... it would make no sense considering how the character is...and considering the contract made...and considering many other things. The SA scenes shown in the series are not gratuitous, at all. They are not also depicted as something "enjoyable", like in many other series, where the victim is suddenly "enjoying" it at the end. They could have made them like in the pilot teaser. They DECIDED not to. And maybe that's why people cannot "forgive" this series for spoiling now their "enjoyment" of a "spicy" story (rather than the depiction of a true "toxic" relationship...). They said it since the beginning. Jane Patrick is a red flag. He's not a "nice", a "sweet" guy. Respecting boundaries would mean having empathy. Do you really think that such a character can respect someone else ? He despises everyone. When Little Jane breaks up with him, Jane Patricks says he's like the others and that he will crawl back to him...Do you really think after the break up and seeing his reaction, with Little Jane literally binding himself to him with a contract, Jane Patrick will respect those intimacy boundaries ? Even when in the first "intimate" scene, he was pressuring already a lot Little Jane (and sweet-talking) in order to do it ? But now with someone directly at his mercy ? The inequality, the imbalance of power basically imply that those boundaries will sooner or later not be respected ! "Words are not enough !!!!!, Jane Patricks says at the beginning of episode 5" He expects sex, do you understand ? And if Little Jane does not give him that, he will take it, because the contract says so and because he wants it ! Little Jane is "indebted to him" and Jane Patrick has "bought" him while dealing with the debt. But maybe later, who knows (?) and since the series has not ended yet, a miracle will happen...and Jane Patrick will stop being a "complete" villain. After all Thai series always tend to salvage those kind of characters at some point...But if they don't at the end, this will be a true surprise for me (and a courageous/risky one too).
The only real issue I have with this series is that it feels like itās missing the romance. It seems like in…
I've not read the novel (and I'm not sure I want to in fact š) but I don't see this as romance since the beginning...more like a twisted attraction etc.
I donāt think he comes across as a narcissist. If anything, he seems like a fairly classic example of obsessive…
I need to read some info about this too š. But I've read also that narcissists can become really obsessed too, especially when they're losing control.
in fact this series is quite coherent with the psychological aspect of the story. After all they didn't talk about cognitive dissonance for nothing (you can also look for information about narcissists and cognitive dissonance...).
ok I've been looking for information about narcissists (and their superiority complex) : can they love ? can they be obsessed ? can they apologize ? etc. And really it's becoming quite clear now. So no, I do think the apology was not really sincere (in the way we usually thought) : "Instead of taking true responsibility, they use apologies as tools to manipulate, regain control, or protect their image." As for their "love", it is love as an idealized mirror meant to worship their own ego, with a transactional aspect to it. In the case of positive emotions you may procure them, there's this love bombing phase (at the beginning of the relationship). But if they start having negative emotions because of this "love", since they don't want to take responsability and are unable to feel empathy, you'll quickly become "the worst enemy". Thus a cycle of abuse will soon follow (they will punish the ones who made them feel those negative emotions). But this cycle won't help with those negative emotions and reinforce them even for themselves, etc. That's why Jane Patrick was so angry in the car scene, almost suicidal. That's why he also says "it's not fun for him too." etc.
Rewatching ep. 5 and I wonder if the apology after the r*pe attempt is not a manipulation tactics. Jane Patrick did give him the choice to leave. But Jane Patrick since the beginning does not want to let him go ! This is a little surprising he's giving him this chance right now, with the contract going on. But Little Jane didn't leave. Does he want to see if Little Jane will stay after ? In a way testing the extent of control he has on him ? When Little Jane cries at the beginning of ep 5, Jane Patrick was smiling. Are a promise or seeing him crying something that would make him stop ? But he does look affected, self-destructive, angry during the car scene, after the assault...I'm so full of questions ! But there's something I'm sure of ! He's insane, very messed up in the mind. If he's a human, you don't see humans doing blood pacts casually like a everyday business š! And with this kind of character, you never know when they are sincere or when they are not. Moments when he does appear sincere though : - the doll gift - Little Jane hugging him after he has been shot. - Him saying no to Little Jane when ask about quitting his "business"
Is it wrong to trust ? Is it wrong to be kind ? Is it wrong to help your family ? Etc. Yet Little Jane actions are judged more harshly than Big jane actions. This is interesting.
Unforgiving. They wonāt make the viewers feel ācomfortableā. And then a contract where the rules are already broken. Isnāt there a heavy price to pay if you donāt respect the rules ? Through the contract, Litle Jane belongs completely to Big Jane, body and mind. What will happen if he doesnāt give his body and soul then ? The world of Big Jane determined by his contracts is already disturbed by a normal guy called Little Jane. He didnāt take the āpriceā, already not following the rules of the own system heās made. Big Jane now also knows that a part of Little Janeāsoul already belongs to him. How all of this will end with such an insane character ? Again the only question. Possible answers : break up or separation, death, amnesia. But I donāt see anything truly āhappyā, unless they go with amnesia (a new beginning). The first SA attempt was before the contract. The second one, of course way worse, is happening during the contract literally enslaving Little Jane. The evolution of the dance scenes, and the worsening of the assaults are voluntarily showing the evolution of a relationship becoming a living hell. Great series with so many layers to analize.
Raw, intense and above all unforgiving series. Of course disturbing ! And theyāre in fact pretty coherent with the characterization. ugliness behind handsomeness and charisma, Do you really expect sweetness from someone like Big Jane ? Power and control. Violence is always not very far. I was not surprised. Psychological horror. And a trap, the trap of an undeniable attraction. Great series and great acting. Iām still hoping that Little Jane will make suffer Big Jane a lot, in the toxic and abusive relationship. Letās all be colourblind because of the scary chemistry. I want your escape Little Jane but at the same time I want you to continue to taste the sin even if it means losing yourself. Forgive me for being so cruel. Put and Dan are no better but Big Jane is the worst. Because heās the one having the key to Little Janeās heart. How all of this end is in fact the only question.
Big Jane : I like it, I want it, I'll have it. Want a contract ? Little Jane : I like it but I should not like it ! Dan : I like it, I want it, I'll have it. Want a photo ? Put : I like it, I want it, I'll have it. Why did you punch me ?
My accounts new and everything etc. but I saw some people criticizing Hengs acting and wonder what the problem…
I don't understand those comments. But, in my opinion, I don't think Little Jane character is a "blank" character. Maybe it'll be the case after the contract taking place. But for now, there are several scenes which show that : - him returning the ball without fear - him breaking up in just maybe two months from a toxic relationship - him refusing to kiss Dan, - him punching his "best friend", etc. - him "using" Dan as a shield in order to get away from Big Jane, - him not liking seeing himself in that art exhibition and saying it...He's quite straightforward ! He's not totally a sweet and passive character....He has guts, like daring to see again Big Jane to save his brother etc. And of course he has inner conflicts, contradictory actions, etc. He's a much more complex character than people thought (in fact as much as Big Jane).
Lil Jane's brother is just stupid but I really hope Big Jane is behind everything and Lil Jane finds out. It's…
people have been saying though they change the story quite a lot in the drama compared to the novel, is that the case though (without spoiler please) ?
I'd push back on that a little. Saying "there's no need to make a contract" only makes sense if you expect…
There's something Big Jane is also interested in though, well it seems to me it's the case. The ability to "rule" a little society, etc. The contracts are his way of "managing" this little society around him. I dare to say there's almost a political aspect behind it. But rewatching ep 4, he has more "emotions" I initially thought, like a king or someone governing a society having lovers, inner conflicts, etc. And they usually say that those people are quite lonely in the exercise of their power. Maybe BigJane in a ways feels that loneliness (and he seems quite the misanthrope) that Little Jane is able to answer to ? But personally I still see the confrontation between Dan and Big Jane as a power play with Little Jane as a reward at the end. Dan and Big Jane almost feel like "equals". Anyways my interpretation of those characters regularly changes from one episode to another . It's exhausting š
