and that's why I also really like Little Jane character. He has subtle ways to stand for himself, despite everything. I just hope it will be still the case even with the contract taking place. At least I hope he'll make Big Jane suffer too (I'm toxic like that 😭) because the (gorgeous) jerk deserves it a lot more.

Money alone isn’t enough. Seduction alone is not enough. Knowledge alone is not enough. So no I don’t consider that he « has » inherently power, that’s why he needs to chase it or maintain it. You need a society who recognizes those as something worthy enough to be pursued or to be feared. Jupiter « has » the « power » of thunder. Yet, he still meddles with those lowly mortal lives. Why bother then ? Because a God without people fearing them or adoring them has no real god-like power. You need others to recognize that power. And if others don’t recognize it, it means you no longer has that power.

Big Jane feels that power when he can control people lives. Through seduction, money, knowledge, etc. of course. But contracts is what made a society so tied to him. They are an absolute essential tool for him to have power on that society. He needs them more than the people coming to ask for a favor in fact. Without them, he will lose that power.

They talk about God Jane I think (in the novel ?). That’s why I make the comparison. But for me, yes, his main motivation is power (and control) first. Maybe there are emotions ? After all people are complex too. But I think a good part of his motivation comes from his need of power.

I think his interest in Little Jane is mainly because Little Jane is not completely or (later) so easily under his complete "control". He’s intrigued definitely though. But it’s also a challenge to that power.

Knowledge ? Little Jane doesn’t know Big Jane at the beginning thus asking for the ball. Put says something sounding like « you have guts » with admiration to Little Jane, forgetting his fear/cautious attitude around Big Jane.
Dream ? Little Jane refuses his help.
Seduction ? Little Jane breaks up with him.

But that's just my interpretation of this character. The contract is what can guarantee his complete control on (not so submissive) Little Jane. Having Little Jane "consent" in a situation of almost life/death for a member of his family is purely pro forma. And it's also easier to control someone who believe (or absolutely want to believe for his relative peace of mind) he still has a little choice in what's happening. Big Jane has done the same thing during the first NC scene while still pressuring a lot Little Jane (even if in the end he "enjoys" it). Later, the assault on that stair case was not a gratuitous scene. It's perfectly logical and it just shows the extent of that "consent". I'll be "nice" if you obey. I won't be if you don't. "Is it fun for you ?". Big Jane stops when he heard this, not because of compassion or realization. Because for people who love power and control, having no control on a situation/someone provokes real suffering for them. Also because people who have power always need to maintain it : it can be challenged, you can have another competitor, etc. Another reason this is no "fun" : the fear of always losing power and control. What makes him stop is the cry of help of his own humiliated ego : "Little Jane will crawl back to him" but Big Jane, for now, is the one crawling back to Little Jane, desperately trying to make that contract happen. Usually it's people who call Big Jane to make those contract (and Big Jane can refuse them!) ! Not Big Jane chasing Little Jane and trying to make it happen !

There's now also an aspect of revenge/punishment especially in the last scene of episode 4. Little Jane has humiliated him with the breakup. The gift of his necklace (the other one) has been thrown out. He sees this as a challenge to his power. A God being humiliated ? This cannot be ! Big Jane likes to have control and likes the way he can determine people lives, judge them ("the abused girlfriend asks for it"), favour them (Little Jane) or punish them (that guy in jail, etc).

But this power is also a double-edged sword. Rumors are what make people fear Big Jane, which in a way help him maintaining his power through fear. But at the same time, they have contributed to the fact that Little Jane wanted to break up with him, thus escaping momentarily from the control he has exercised through seduction.

Maybe he "loves" him in a twisted way. But for me, it's not really "love".
Little Jane escapes him first because of the breakup and Big Jane needs the contract in order to tie Little Jane definitely to him, even if it means a rule of "no emotions". That means having the control (control on Little Jane actions = "enslaving" him = having power on him) is more important to him than "emotions" . He knows the situation of the art exhibition and sees this as an opportunity (which didn't work). I'd not be surprised if he took advantage of the situation of the brother's debt (why would he ends up in a private room in a hospital then ? why Little Jane was called first etc. ?)...He's been ready two times with his locket necklace in his pocket...it means he already knows those situations before hand. Well, that's my guess.

For new viewers, as a general rule, don't trust MDL ratings which don’t necessarily reflect the quality of a series. At least this one feels definitely unique in the BL landscape.

Watch it and see for yourself. But don't expect a sweet BL. It's dark, not nice, unforgiving. But it’s also fascinating and mysterious with a cynical reflection on human relationships.

Big Jane is a gorgeous and charismatic « devil » that will easily tempt you like he does for Little Jane...You'll try to find excuses for him, no matter what. And you'll be disturbed by it.

Little Jane is the « angel » being attracted to one he should not. He'll lose his wings for it. For your peace of mind, and because of the idea he did not deserve any of it will be too unacceptable for you, you’ll then quickly blame him in order to still « like » Big Jane as a character.

But despite all of this, both are tied. Both cannot escape each other. Both will hurt each other. Both would always be pulled towards each other. They will be too emotional in the contractual bond and break the first rule « Don’t be too emotional ».

In many ways, as a viewer, you’ll also feel like you’re the subject of the psychological experiment Big Jane seems to orchestrate around the college.

I've seen people saying : well they accept those contracts. If they don't honor them, they had it coming (or something like that).

But in fact : why does Big Jane make contracts ? And does he really need them ?

The answer to this question shows you why it's not a matter of honoring or not honoring a contract.

There's basically no need to make a contract since the beginning. There's no need to make rules and there's no need to play "games".

So why ?

The answer : for power.

If you really think about it, for now, this is a series which presents every "romantic" gesture, "love" as a trap designed for obsession and possession, monetary transaction, sex. Indeed it's dark 😭

I really love the details they put in the series. That's what makes it so interesting. Layers I tell you ! Here are some examples :

1. Dan seems like Big Jane 2, well he's using the same tactics, but with an even more sugary approach. See the difference when cutting the -don't remember what it was- ? Big Jane makes a sharp and agressive movement. Dan does it carefully and sweetly, with patience. But both use something which can cut and hurt. Do you think they show this for nothing in the series lol ?

2. Little Jane having those words on his shirt in the art exhibition : "My favorite things" or something like that. He's the "thing" hanging on the wall, during the art exhibition. And the "thing" has a very high price. He's the "thing" pushed back against the wall by Big Jane, after he "bought" him figuratively. The business transaction has already started. You take the reward in your arms. And you only need then a contract to definitely seal it after. Do you think it was also for nothing when they show this in the series ? lol

3. The discussion about color and black and white. Who's in black ? who's in white ? Light and Dark. Two opposites. But they go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other. Do you think it was also for nothing ? lol

they're not following the novel exactly apparently . so it's possible it will be different. i see the tags supernatural and demon male lead ? so maybe ? or maybe not ? but Big Jane really has the demonic aura for sure.

I like Heng acting ! Very natural and expressive. He literally shines in ep 4... you have Thai viewers who says his acting is great though...since people are not used to thai language and how it sounds, maybe that's why they think like that ? I don't know. I was surprised seeing those kind of comments.
