well, average age for marriage back then is 14-16. the girls marry older guys and it's normal to marry 20 year old....assuming the previous king is a lot older when consort li was brought to the palace. example from history: emperor wu zetian (she was a lady status and married the elder king at the age of 16 and he was around 50s at the time. after the older pass, she married the successor as his consort, later elevated to queen/consort.

novel: shuran is the youngest of the 3 daughters in the ji family. the second daughter is excluded in the drama. consort li is supposed to be around the same age as the king, if younger. weird the drama change the consort's origin.

the drama is making him such a disgusting creature. novel: handsome, gentleman (per traits of the time) from the surface, it's love at first sight for the princess; which is why she's obsessed with him. it's also the idea that she can't have him b/c he is someone else's husband. he knows how to control the princess and work around her without ever having to plead or beg. the drama gave the princess such s & m traits...it doesn't make sense at all.

what a waste of screen time for evil characters like that. the drama is giving too much screen time to stupid characters vs the main characters' story arcs.

it's so hard to watch the drama...it's not too bad if you did not read the novel.

he could divorced her, send her back to her hometown. but he don't want to b/c it will hurt his reputation for divorcing his perfect wife that didn't have any fault.

the drama changed A LOT and it's not going to follow most of the storyline.

great, another novel adapted into poor drama. base on the synopsis, it's just names from the book but not the story plot.

For a woman to rule and claim emperor at that time is not an understatement. She was a bad ass!

Life start young back then. People marry young back then and it was normal for the husbands to be 10-30 years older. The kings will get young girls every year to add to his harem even at 60 years of age. Well, there’s some cases where the dad days the daughter’ friend.

Yeah back then it’s normal to marry your cousins from your mom’s side of the family lol.

The drama leaves out so much.

In the novel, SH calls her ‘little missy’. Bc JL is 16. he has a pet name for her and that’s pretty doting for a character like SH.

The eldest daughter is by a concubine. She died at 4. The concubine was a maid of the first wife. The elderly Jiang lady (grandma) made the decision to have the maid become a concubine. Concubine fake delusion/crazy after the daughter died.

If you read the novel, the drama falls shorty on the origin of the details for all the characters. Due to censorship, drama can’t do supernatural theme. It’s not possessing, more like taking over a body with no soul. JL wanted to died bc of a broken heart and despair of being forgotten/abandoned by her family. XFF wanted to live and revenge her self and her family; her desire to live was strong. Bc of that, she got a second chance by living in JL. XXF and SH are about the same age. The novel put SH at 24. JL is 16 at the time of her death.

It’s weird the drama change this. Consort li is a’pin’ level consort inthe novel but is a favorite of the king. She’s not supposed to have a complicated background. Since she can’t get pregnant, the Ji family wanted to send a cousin in to the palace. This is one of the reason why consort li resorted to side with Prince Cheng.

His fan is his choice of weapon since it’s more refine vs a sword. His fan is supposed to have metal sharp edges…instead of wood for the fan’s structure. He only uses a fan until the last battle against his enemy. He used his father’s sword later.

Wu zetian is around 13 when she married taizong. It sounds weird but gaozong and WZT is close in age with her being a few years older only.
