That's like 85% of dramas from any Kdrama era. It's clearly something writers don't care about fixing or else…
same here; i wait until all the eps are released first to ensure it's worth watching. but the dramas i do that for usually end up in disappointment, so then i just end up watching nothing 🥲
man what is up with dramas these days.... they start off strong then falter near the final episodes. i just want to watch a show that's good or decent from beginning to end🥲
Do you mind if I ask what's the difference between the 60 vs 63 episode versions?
the 63 eps version was made for tv so each episode is around 35-45 mins long. the 60 eps version was made for dvd so each episode is around 45 minutes long.
both show the same scenes; nothing was cut. the dvd version just splits the content into less episodes
romance is involved here so it's no surprise when people talk about it... ^^长相思 is best appreciated when…
xiao yao isn't someone who will explicitly say her true thoughts, though you can interpret based on the little gestures she does.
she always put a lot of effort into the poisons she made for xiang liu (in S1E25, she bid her goodbyes to him but then quickly hurried back with poisons, and was disappointed when she didn't see him) and only ever captured xiang liu in her ape mirror (she was very sad when he removed the memories).
in S1E27 and S1E34, she wished she could've saved xiang liu from the slave arena so he could stay as fangfeng bei forever. the obvious, surface-level meaning is that she wished he could be free from his duties. but the hidden message is that she wished they weren't enemies. doesn't this basically imply that, if not for their opposing stances, she would've gone for xiang liu / fangfeng bei instead of jing / ye shiqi?
Just a random thought due to replies on my previous post.. why do people want to insist that XY n XL were soulmates…

长相思 is best appreciated when you don’t view it through a simple black-and-white lens. the story is layered with lots of room for discussion and analysis. like since the characters are multi-dimensional, i find it lowkey fun analyzing each of them (how their past affected their future) and their relationships with each other.
xiang liu loved xiao yao unconditionally, ensuring she'd have someone to accompany her, archery to protect herself with, and a place to go to even when he is no longer there. discussing their relationship doesn't diminish xiang liu’s character at all. in fact, it only further emphasizes his honor and selflessness.
one of the core themes of 长相思 is "yearning": each character got what they wanted most at the end but at the cost of losing something else (or someone else) forever—hence the title "eternally yearning for you." the male lead cang xuan became emperor to protect xiao yao but lost xiao yao. the female lead xiao yao found a lifelong companion but lost xiang liu.
rewatching this drama in full after almost 5 years. it feels like seeing an ex 💔
this was the first and only drama i finished in 3 days—at high speed ofc ;D to be fair, it was during the summer of covid so i had a lottt of free time on my hands LOL
Woah! I was missing tjc n so I thought to try to watch this show for him after dropping it last year as it was…
the scene of xiang liu asking xiao yao questions reveals xiao yao's true feelings the best.
S2E06 XL: are you willing to marry chishui fenglong? XY: not willing XL: are you willing to marry tushan jing? XY: [no response] XL: are you willing to marry ye shiqi? XY: willing XL: who do you want to spend your life with? XY: [no response. her head starts to hurt]
(earlier in S2E01, xiao yao said that the person she likes is the one she wants to spend her life with)
CH 32 After multiple struggles she became more and more pained and her body began to shake as she clutched her head “Hurt…..hurt…..” Xiang Liu had used his power to try and see into Xiao Yao’s heart but Xiao Yao’s mind was too strong willed. If she encountered something that even she refused to think about, then she would unexpectedly oppose answering it and the headache was the result of her refusal to answer the question.
there was somebody who analyzed this scene a year back, and their thoughts were just too accurate not to share. (i highly recommend you to read their full comment)
"In the drama episode, when Xiao Yao is asked whether whether she wants to marry Tushan Jing: She does not answer. When asked if she wants to marry Ye Shiqi, she says yes. Xiang Liu could have given up asking at that point. He does not. Why? Because the Lovers' Bugs are not giving him pain. This means Xiao Yao is giving answers that do not trigger love, hence telling Xiang Liu that he is not asking the right questions. If Xiao Yao can say yes to marrying Ye Shiqi yet not be in love with Ye Shiqi, it means marriage to Xiao Yao is not what she defines as a criteria for love. Xiang Liu knows Xiao Yao was willing to marry Chishui Fenglong without loving him. We know marriage is not used as a definition of love by Xiao Yao.
On top of that, her answers are telling Xiang Liu that Xiao Yao can differentiate between the importance of Ye Shiqi and Tushan Jing to Xiao Yao, as Xiao Yao and as Wen Xiaoliu. Knowing all this would make anyone emotional, especially a demon who thinks he will never be loved. And that is where Tan Jianci acts it out rather wonderfully: When Xiang Liu asks who she wants to spend the rest of her life with. He does not make a differentiation in this question. He simply asks her who she wants to spend the rest of her life with. What Xiang Liu wants to know is who Wen Xiaoliu and Xiao Yao, as an entire person and wholeheartedly, wants as a life companion and soulmate.
This is when Xiao Yao gets a headache. Her reactions, in what she does not say and how the bugs inside their hearts react, is the answer. The fact that she refuses to answer is because she does not want to answer and cannot answer. It would require her to look clearly at what her heart knows, and acknowledge it."
adding on: xiao yao easily answered "willing" to marrying ye shiqi, so why couldn't she say his name when asking who she wanted to spend her life with?
because the words "willing" and "want" have different meanings. you can be willing to do something without wanting to do it, and you can want something without being willing to do it.
for someone who has severe abandonment and childhood traumas, it's not surprising that xiao yao would be willing to go for the safe choice, the one who will never abandon her (jing) instead of the one she wants to be with but could abandon her in war (xiang liu).
Woah! I was missing tjc n so I thought to try to watch this show for him after dropping it last year as it was…
what @kokuto said. xiao yao's love for xiang liu is more subtle. she has abandonment traumas and tends to follow her mind instead of her heart. you kinda have to do the movie-equivalent of reading between the lines to see her feelings for xiang liu.
but the drama did downplay yaoliu's moments a lot, that's a huge part of why many viewers think she doesn't love xiang liu. her feelings for xiang liu are more obvious in the novel.
drama sequence: xiao yao finds out about xiang liu's death (quiet tears) --> marries jing novel sequence: xiao yao marries jing --> finds out about xiang liu's death (crying and screaming)
I've a really hard time emphatizing with ML... He falls in love with FL when she has other faces but is incapable…
@505tangqi said it right.
tang qi has a negative "filter" on cheng cheng right now due to misunderstandings back in school (he thought she was a bully). it's like how once you view someone negatively, you view everything they do negatively, even when it's probably illogical.
he hasn't realized it yet but he's not really in love with her transformations; he's in love with her core / true self.
no official confirmation yet. i hope it comes true but have a feeling jianci won't take it since ML sounds similar to xiang liu and jianci tends to play different roles TT
finished ep 1 and like it so far. reminded me of girl from nowhere.
i felt pity for what ah jin went through. i thought about all the poor kids out there who were born into abusive and/or neglectful households, how such traumatic incidents in their childhood would forever shape their future TT
