i enjoyed the beginning, thought the mid was mid (except for a few parts), but the ending eps were good enough to leave me feeling satisfied.
my biggest complaint is with FL. i wish they wrote her character better and delved deeper into her backstory so that we could relate to and understand her — cuz ngl them barely showing us her past made me feel like it wasn't that serious lol. but it's a romance drama so of course they won't focus on those stuff. same thing happened with LOTFG. and i didn't feel she truly loved him until the last ten or so episodes.
btw i'm still confused, why was ming yi so unwilling to tell ji bozai her true identity? because the world still kept spinning after he found out (on his own). she could tell her best friend but not bozai, after all they've been through.....
realistic rating 8/10 but i like it overall to give it an 8.5. major props to both hou minghao and lu yuxiao. their chemistry carried this drama and was the reason why i enjoyed watching <3
I just finished this and will say I mostly liked it - but there wee some huge flawsLets start with with I liked:Hou…
no fr like who thought it'd be a great idea to have her go for the golden millet dream IMMEDIATELY after they slept together?? "at this moment, i'm sincere" — betrays him next scene 🙄 i'm never forgiving the script writers for that.
I read somewhere that the ml pretends to get drunk and forces himself on the fl, is that true?
there's two scenes that person could've been referring to.
(1) somewhere in the first ten or twelve episodes, drunk ML almost kisses FL. he regains consciousness and stops himself before their lips touch.
(2) in the last third of the drama, "drunk" ML surprise kisses her. he's not actually drunk, just pretended to be. FL is shocked by the kiss and tries to push him off, not necessarily because she didn't like it (in case you thought it's SA) but because he's not supposed to know she's there — at least that's how i interpreted it.
if you want more context or a link to either scene, i can provide it if possible. out of context, it sounds like a SA scene which it's not O_O
"JC is quite attractive to over 15 million women." Tell me more, I could be his granny, I have different…
xiang liu is a wonderful character who's impossible to replace and impossible to forget. trust me, i know. but you shouldn't let that deter you from enjoying other dramas, characters, and even actors and actresses.
the good thing about dramas is that there's one for everyone. "filter" likely just wasn't that type of story for you, and that's okay. maybe you should stick with costume dramas. hopefully one day, you'll find one that resonates with you as close as lost you forever or xiang liu did ^^;
this drama teaches you the importance of being kind. ji bozai cares for his master because of her kindness, situ ling fell in love with ming xian because of his (her) kindness, fu yue fell in love with situ ling because of his kindness, yan xiao is loyal to lord hanfeng because of his kindness. man if only real life was like that lol
i love ji bozai's character and seeing how hurt he was by ruo shui's end. it's rare for me to see a drama where the male lead deeply cares about a female character who isn't the female lead

thanks for sharing! i love when he sings in cantonese
an acquantaince of mine said she and her brother (who doesn't even watch asian dramas) loved this show, so i went into this with somewhat high expectations.
well........ it was entertaining at the start. and then—dull and repetitive. FL makes food, character eats food, character metaphorically goes into heaven because of how good food tastes, character compliments FL. rinse and repeat. like they really couldn't give FL more personality beyond amazing chef or dive deeper into the many other characters? don't even get me started on the roughly THREE episodes dedicated to a cooking competition 🥱
i saw some complaints about the acting but to be fair, the characters here weren't complex to demand stellar performances anyway so i won't criticize that aspect (like the typical female villain who exists solely to mess with FL since ML doesn't love her). i'll give lee chaemin his flowers though, particularly in the last few episodes.
however, what i will criticize is the romance! i am not convinced by the love story as it felt superficial and rushed. the idea of mangunrok was so romantic and i loved it (i'm a sucker for yearning) but when you don't feel the chemistry/love, it's just like... eughh you know?
although it seems like it, i'm not hating—i'm just disappointed.

i hate situ ling's actions but i can't bring myself to hate situ ling himself. really wish he met fu yue instead of ming xian back then..
