Title Eternal Love
I feel bad that this is your first Xian Xia because I personally think its not really what xian xia is. Chinese…
Me too! Chinese Paladin Hu Ge/Liu Yi Fei was my first one too, back in the days, and I remember really enjoying it. However, I hadn't watched another one until fairly recently when I tried to get into Eternal Love because of the raving reviews, and am finding myself moving very slowly from one episode to another (still on ep 8 or 9 now) and getting distracted with other dramas.

I thought I was the only one, because when I started it last year I didn't see one negative review.

Title Minning Town
This drama was produced to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party this year. There are…
Some other things to note about this drama:

1. It's in dialect. Not putonghua Mandarin. So if you know standardized Mandarin already (like those spoken in Beijing and Shanghai), it'll take some getting used to, to understand this dialect. Hopefully it's all translated soon.

2. Because it was produced to celebrate 100 years of CPC, you know there's gotta be at least a little propaganda in this drama. And there is. But it's not in your face, and for the average viewer, you won't even know it's there.

Min Ning Town (not a mining town haha) is a real place, in NingXia China, a landlocked autonomous region. This drama is based on a real story. A lot of the characters are based on real people from that town in the 90s, when the town was constructed.

The drama is a love letter to Xi Jinping, of sorts. He's not actually mentioned directly in the drama (as of ep 17 which I just finished). However, in the late 90s, Xi JinPing was Deputy secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and visited NingXia countryside. While investigating the area, he proposed the idea of building Min Ning village, a place that migrants can move to and be stable. Xi JinPing made it a political task to oversee the completion of the town and area, promote economic development, and solve poverty issues.

3. This isn't a light or fluffy drama. It's also not heavily political. It's really about overcoming struggles. Almost all the characters are very likeable people.

That said, it's not for everyone. For people that only watch stuff like fluffy romcom or wuxia/xianxia, you're probably not going to be very interested in a drama like this.

I'd recommend giving it a try, maybe 2 or 3 episodes and see if you'll like it.

Is this an uplifting slice of life, or a heavy political/stressful drama? The synopsis is leaning towards the…
Not a light/fluffy watch, but also not heavily political. Just...daily lives and problems of running a village and being poor in general, and overcoming struggles. Almost all the characters are very likeable people.

That said, it's not for everyone. For people that only watch stuff like fluffy romcom or wuxia/xianxia, you're probably not going to be very interested in a drama like this.

Title Minning Town
This drama was produced to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party this year. There are lots of stars and cameos in this.

It's about a group of people going through hardships in setting up a new village in the 90's, and people from the village going to bigger cities to make money.

This has the same feel as Kong Sheng's other drama, Like a Flowing River. There are lots of cameos from actors from that drama.

Damn, you're dedicated. I tried watching them from the start years ago and gave up, and decided to just find the ones with my favorite guests, and then occasionally just the newer episodes I missed. This is a good comprehensive list.

not gonna lie: the height difference is a bit off-putting. i sometimes have this feeling that this grown man is…
I noticed this in PYHOMS too haha. In one of the scenes when he was walking by himself he just looked so tall and skinny, reminded me of slenderman. It's probably just the way the scene was shot. It's such a big height difference between them two, it's a bit uncomfortable to see.

When her new drama will come out??
After her scandal news, a new drama probably won't be out for years.

This guy was in at least 4 dramas I watched this past year, pretty much back to back. I just got done watching him in Like a Flowing River 2 and now just saw him in My Best Friend's Story. He never plays a character I like though, but is good at playing bad people, so he's a good actor. Hope to see you more in the future.
