They built up Masashi as the best rival and that's the ending they gave him. Love the drama but this man deserves better. And it looks like they dropped the whole dating thing for Junko

At the end, only Konno, Kamiya, Ichinose, Morishige, Hinata survived. So yeah you're right, there is five. But seeing how Hinata killed Usui, framed Ichinose, attempted to kill Kamiya and Konno and surrendered to the police. I doubt they'll want to meet him anymore and vice versa.

So yes, 5 people survived. But all four of them will go on to be life long friends, excluding Hinata.

Agreed. Fujiwara Tatsuya was a meh Light but Masataka Kubota is honestly perfect as Light. Meanwhile Matsuyama Kenichi as L is perfect too but in the drama Kento as L seemed rather cocky, even fought Light... physically.

Both L and Light in their respective films are different and I like that. But I think it'd be nice if it was Matsuyama Kenichi's L from this movie replacing Kento's L, fighting against Kubota's Light.

Gintama is known for its fourth wall breaking jokes. Gintoki, the character Oguri Shun plays, makes fourth wall breaking jokes. Very similar to what Gintoki does in the anime. It is blatantly clear everything said in the opening is meant to be taken in a joking manner. They are simply following the script. If any of them had problems with it, then it wouldn't have made it into the movie.

Oguri Shun plays a character that breaks fourth wall and breaks the fourth wall in the movie, just like in the script. Also he is not cussing. He is mentioning the names of those who won instead and they censored that. Just like in Gintama.

imagine watching this in 2014 and getting that shock of an ending and waiting 3 years for a sequel...

That's not weird whatsoever, Kubota has diverse roles so it's pretty explanatory. IMO, his acting is better than Kento. Kento needs more diverse roles other than high school characters he keeps getting. Him in Todome No Kiss & Good Doctor was great though, hopefully we get to see more of that

that ending makes me think we could have a second season where it's a 'Death Note'-like plot for Ango where he defines what is justice and what is evil to him

Same, watched the drama then watched this. This Light seemed carefree at times but that ending though, this dude is much more evil and cold than that Light from the drama.
