it might be the reason that the number of perfect 10's (or 5's in Douban) decreased from 18.1% to 17.5% to 16.7%…
I like happy endings as well - when they make sense. That's not the case here. One can see from the downward trend in the individual episode ratings that the enthusiasm for the storyline is declining.
This was a very good drama and deserves it's ratings and accolades. That said, the last episode is pretty much a downer and the appearance of the rider on a white horse was pretty much fantasy in my mind. The five minute addition to make us all feel better was an add-on waste of time. I do like 'happy' endings, but not when they are this unrealistic.
Only up to ep 38 but I now realiza the elder princess is such a one-note actress who keeps repeating herself: yelling, slapping, twirling, cackling. Why hasn't someone given her a good whack just for that performance?

Yiao Heng has let his hair down and he looks so young and vulnerable. Jiang Li better protect her boy lover from evil forces when all her machinations come home to roost.
Looks like all the remaining episodes are up to enjoy them all the way to the end. I plan to have fun with them. Just had a reaction to the Princess' temper tantrum and realized just how much food that goes to waste in these Ddramas all the time.
So we are asked to have pity on elder princess wanning for a dismal background and now having Shen Yuron acknowledge the 'child in her womb'. Sorry, but I pass. I'm surprised the emperor is always so willing to go along with everything his maternal Concubine Li suggests. I would have thought he had better judgement.
i guess WYZ has been given that 'be protected real kissing scenes at all cost from older(7+ years older) leading…
You just reminded me of how satisfying it is to watch an actor perform a decent kissing scene. Wu Lei is certainly one of them. He did a great job in Nothing But You as a much younger man who becomes devoted to and older women. Another kisser to watch is the experienced Wallance Chung.
Well that was a total let-down. The drama teases us to believe there is CP between Jiang Li and Duke Su and then all we get is a pan to a flaming candle. The hate/love/jealousy between The Eldest Princess and Shen YuRong is much more intense and intereting. I wonder how he manages to 'please' this sad excuse for a human being given how she debases him constantly, I his upper lip isn't the only thing that's stiff.
Eight more episodes to go and Princess Wanning and Jiang Li are practically getting into fisticuffs. Shen YuRong is their sacrificial lamb but his cowardice does not elicit sympathy. Ye Shi Jie is the 'cousin' who is adoringly loyal as her stalwart supporter. Duke Su is having qualms about the dangers he and the Emperor's game plan might make to Jiang Li's survival. Her feisty charms are making him a fan.
Good to see a happy ending for the Crown Prince and his woman. He was kind and smart and she was dedicated to helping people. The relationship between the King and Queen was also nice to see and I'm glad they survived. There was quite a bit that I found annoying. Way to much screaming and crying by some of the characters. The story continuously wanted us to see the Dowager and the Poison Doctor in a sympathetic light because they were devoted to one another. They were stone-cold plotters and killers and had way too much screen time. The Crown Prince's brother was conflicted by I'm glad they did not make him an evil guy at the end. I have to mention that I have never seen such a clueless, useless maid in a drama such as Oh Wol. The sceenwritesr did not do her any favours.
