On The Last Empress Nov 25, 2018
People should always expect the first few episodes to be weird, rushed or a mess. That's because they tried to lay out everything as soon as possible. I admit some of the comedy scenes and bits were a bit cringy but I'm more interested in the alternate reality this drama will portray with constitutional monarchy. It's a perfect blend of modern and historical dramas; some fashion trends are vintage, there's still some western influences. I wish the public treated the Emperor more of a political head rather than a kpop star. Though it's more easier on the ears/eyes than watching a historical drama with too much modern influences/dialogue.

I'm a type of person who watches things and see through the end. I get curious about what happens, even if the ending or certain points in the plot are terrible. Of course we know Na Wangshik becomes hot. So, when and how does he have a turning point that makes him want to better himself physically? How did he survive after Episode 4? Who helped him, or if he helped himself? What becomes of Min Yura when the Emperor is betrothed? Will Sunny ever see through the Emperor? How will Wangshik and Sunny meet? How much of s*** Sunny will be entangled with when she realizes of the Emperor's crimes? Will there be more character deaths? Plot twists?

I'm more curious about Na Wangshik and Min Yura's relationship. If Wangshik finds his way into the palace and meets his wife, how will they interact? Will Yura be swayed by her husband's brand new looks? Or will she stick out with her potential future with the Emperor? What about their child? Would she regret it all? Would she try to steal him from Sunny who may eventually be intertwined with him too?

I went ahead and read the spoilers.
I find it boring that many people always expect leading male and leading female to always end together. It's exciting if the end result is not expected or not the usual. I really hope the drama can follow the webtoon.

Nah
Not in a bad way, doofus. lol.
I just found it interesting that it's highlighting around Incheon Airport like a product placement. Even if it is, the story glosses over that "fact" and gives a spotlight to people who work in airport roles that we never even think too much of. Like dramas who include more roles of those working in the Korean army.

I was a big fan of season 1 but I don't know why I held off on watching season 2. They really raised the bar with this season!

I don't care what others say, it was very impactful and intense for me. It kept me on edge all the time that at some parts I had to grab onto a pillow and brace for the action. I think Kwon Yul is an exceptional actor. I've only seen him in this and Bring It On Ghost but I think he does a hell of a good job on being a villain. I feel very scared of him, for real. And I don't think you need to be devilishly handsomely exotic and cold with facial hair to be a considered a "good" of an antagonist. I like to think of his role as a regular human being you know in our life who is secretly a psychopath. They will be friendly and mimick emotions (especially empathy) to get close to you.

1 in 25 people are psychopaths. Try not to piss them off. Watch out.

Can't wait til season 3. 6v6

I just noticed that the Korean title of this drama is made up with the names of the leading characters. \o/

Kyungsoo is actually pretty manly. It's weird when his fans make him a submissive when it comes to their gay fetishing ship hobbies .

I'M JUST so sad about the uncle. The whole time many of us and the characters got the wrong idea that the uncle is a bad man for abandoning Seori and I was suspecting he was cheating on his wife for being in the country secretly. But he was doing all that he can to fight his business bankruptcy and while protecting Seori's house. :'(

I didn't understand one thing in this. Maybe I was not paying attention or maybe am simply dumb. How did everyone…
I think the point is that it is obvious? It's just known that women who get plastic surgery in Korea tend to look alike, or some people say that girls have the same plastic surgeon and plainly that there is a specific beauty standard in Korea. She was even mistaken by an unknown male calling for a "Yuri" because their faces is similar. It's kind of BS since I remember a girl appearing on Hello Counselor saying she never got workdone because people were picking on her by pointing out how nice her nose is = she got plastic surgery.

Title My ID Is Gangnam Beauty Spoiler
I first avoided this drama because I thought it was gonna be like Insatiable where the female lead was gonna get revenge on everyone who picked on her. It wasn't bad as I thought it was gonna be. I liked how shestill stayed as timid and quiet as she always was, emphasizing how she just wants an ordinary life.

MORE importantly, I just like how it wasn't another drama where the antagonist is gonna be someone from money and power. I like Hyun Sooah. She was only doing her part to survive in such a cruel shallow world that only pretty popular girls survive. She was too focussed on surviving on her own that she didm't realize it was hurting other people. Maybe she would've been different if she had a friend to care for when she was younger. She truly had no one until Mirae and Eun came along. More or less, I've seen girls in my life act like her, and for a short moment I've been her before. I think Jo Woori did such a good job playing Hyun Sooah. I liked how that they didn't push Hyun Sooah and Kang Mirae to be be immediately friends right away. It was simply sweet that she left the gift to Mirae, perhaps like an apology/blessing.

A memorable scene I remember is that those stupid guys were fat-shaming and sexualizing girls and the group og girls stood up to the guys and called them out for it. I wish we could see more scenes like that. It thrills me when men are confronted on their stupid shit.

I decided to watch for Seungyeon and I'm having so much fun watching her take on this role, it's so different…
Really? I don't really watch her stuff so I don't know. What type of characters did she use to play? But I think it'd be good if she manages to nail down this character. It's good to be broad sometimes or you end up like Jang Geunsuk.

Title Mother Spoiler
I feel like I'm being compelled to accept Hyena/Yoonbok to go back with her biological mother. I was immersed a lot into Soojin's biological mother's story, how she was unable to bring her up herself. I feel like of Hyena/Yoonbok's bio mom can realize her wrongdoings, leave her abusive boyfriend and raise her daughter properly, then things can go smoothly. I know Soojin's trying to do things right, but there's the whole debate of a child being with their birth mom and stuff.

Not every drama needs to have a happy ending with both main leads being happy together in the end, so if you want…
Well, his immortal case is different from Seorin/Baekhee, so it's not a punishment for him (but technically is because he can't grow old with his wife). The best wishes of Boonyi/Haera back fired and did more than protect him from poison, which is also death. He will grow old again if he separates himself with the person who made the prayer, but in the last episode we saw him choose not to because he doesn't want to age without Haera even though it meant she will be the only one to age. It's sad but they can't do anything more than to appreciate their time together. I agree it's a little rushed. I think Seorin and Baekhee went a little too soon and that it'd be a little more climatic when busting Park Chulmin.

ok. Let's just say there better be a season 2 where the writers redeem themselves by giving a decent ending because…
Writers don't need to redeem. themselves. It's up to you if you like it or not. And season 2 would be pointless but I guess a bonus episode may be considerable.

I dislike the idea that not true happy ending = shit kdrama ending. It just shows just how much we're spoiled with media to think every love story needs to be wrapped up in a pretty pink bow. In my personal opinion, I think this ending was suitable for a drama like this. You got it all, Haera and Sooho are married and the love rivals were all removed from the equation, plus Haera spend her life with the man she loved. Was she truly happy? Of course not, but I like to believe she was still happy and wouldn't spend her life time with another man or any other way. In life, regrets make you learn to appreciate and accept the path you've taken, because they shape who you are. A popular RPG game named Finding Happiness (To The Moon 2) defines Regrets really well too. The drama also reaffirms the cliche quote "becareful what you wished for". Haera as Booyi wished for something that intended to serve Myungso/Sooho well and make her happy, but in the end it came and bit right back at her. Not being about to grow old with Sooho also became her regret. But hey, if she didn't, he might have died sooner in the stor and been reborn, and Seorin will continue her antics again.

I absolutely loved the ending. Kdramas should learn from this.
I loved it too. It didn't feel like a stupid kdrama romance fairytale like 95% of the kdramas out there. The main leading characters were together and married, but like realistic relationships it's not all giggles and rainbows. I can see how much of it Haera might have disliked it (not being treated a part of being Sooho's wife, not growing old with him, thinking he'll spend the growing old part with another woman).

OMG. The drama started off really good then became ok-ish. I wanted to finish it since i started watching it but…
Not every drama needs to have a happy ending with both main leads being happy together in the end, so if you want that a lot of other drams can give you that. Haera and Sooho were truly together at the end of it all, but it wasn't truly happy at all. This drama demostrated just how careful you need to be about making wishes. Haera as Booyi's wish intended for Sooho as Myungso to never get hurt, and he further layered that he'll just live forever. Bam, it applied.

GOD DAMN. That was so heavy. So many times I feel like I was gonna breakdown and just cry. Thankfully, I haven't experienced any of these issues first hand but it's like I'm right then and there experiencing it. Hopefully there's some sort of counsellor on set to make sure that child actress and everyone else is doing fine mentally. I can't imagine that child abuse, yet alone acting it out, could do some sort of damage?

It's so sad, taking away Hyena would save her from the abuse but they can't let that because of legal reasons. :'( And surely even if Sujin asked the mom, the mom won't let Hyena go easily.
