Tbh i think it's because Overdo incorporates everything that short dramas have: filter, editing ( they even added a specific sound which is used in short dramas during plot twists or end of the episode) , very transparent characters (e.g. it's obvious that mom, ML's sister and Hou family are evil and one-sided). Short dramas are lately at the peak of popularity and it seems that the crew wanted to follow a trend and use it in a full-time drama with top actors and i think it works well for older viewers but many international viewers and ZLH fans are younger people who don't watch short dramas so it just didn't really fit the target audience
