True. When I watched it, I was so mad that they were going to end together, I kind of fast forwarded the grovel part. But true, he does grovel, and sincerely repent. And she acts like a normal person throughout the whole ordeal. Probably had she not had a kid, she wouldn't have given him a chance, but that's another conversation.

But Sawan Biang is different, so many dramas at that time even, had the rapist ML say: "sorry, I just love you so much. We're together now" ! But at least, we were shown the actual violence of it, and the FL's suffereing, meaning we as viewers could decide for ourselves, if we thought the guy's behavior was or was not excusable. Whereas nowadays, with the meek fight and the pan out thing... I don't know, it's like sanitizing the crime and it rubs me the wrong way.
I used to watch dramas with rape/dubious consent back then because it was shown for what it is. Nowadays I'll just drop any lakorn that tries to pull this on me. I was burnt with Mia Jum Pen.

People decried the use of violent rape in lakorns as a plot device, to precipitate the romantic relationship between the main characters. What did show makers do in response? They kept the rape and watered down/censored the violence. Yet they still will use it in the same idiotic way. Nowadays lakorn will just cut out the physical fight from the woman and then pan out pff. That was not the problem. Sawan Biang is not perfect, but because in no way it glamorize the rapes or lessens the violence or the pain she feels, or the self-loathing he develops, I think it was easier to stomach.

Yes I agree with you about MMH being destroyed by the introduction of the ex. It's an overplayed trope and it should only be used ver sparingly and cleverly. To be honest with you, I started FFWing like crazy as soon as she appears and so it didn't really leave too much of a bad taste in mouth because of it. Mostly I prefer MMH because the FL's revenge felt (1) more justified (we are shown at length how bad her hubby and bestie are) and (2) more elaborate.
But yeah if PMR had had a better budget it probably would be the better drama.

Lol I had to go back and watched that scene, OMG it's true, he actually did a great job with that scene. LOL maybe he was not completely acting hehe.
Yeah I agree that Sung Hoon doesn't seem (to me ) like he's passionate with acting. Not only does he not get better, but in I'm Living Alone, he always seemed to me more like someone who "hustles" and just try to make a living, rather than someone who's passionate about acting. I think his real passion was probably swimming and now acting is more of a job(?). Anyway, I'm still rooting for him to get better and have better and better roles.

Well she did go to jail and then got out. I'm just happy that she's left back where she started (in the soup shop), taking care of the mother she wanted to deny. I think it's good that she doesn't earn happiness by the end.

Done watching and man, was the end (around ep 45 til the end) boring! Not enough makjang in this drama. Come Jang Bo Ri is by far the better drama.

I recently watched Come! Jang Bo Ri, and I saw that I wrote a note (a long time ago) about watching Twinkle Twinkle at the same time. I don't remember why I wrote that note, but I guess someone must have recommended I do so, probably to compare and contrast my fave Lee Yu Ri's performance. So I begrudgingly decided to watch the first 3 episodes of Twinkle Twinkle and see. Well, I'm now at ep23, and going. I still don't know for sure why I wrote the note, but comparing the two dramas is very interesting, not just because of Lee Yu Ri, these two dramas are like two sides of one coin, it takes the same archetype of easy go lucky FL and puts her in the two opposite ends of the same situation.

I refer to his age because SK's showbusiness is unkind to older people. He already had a hard time finding good roles at his peak of youth, how is it gonna be as he keeps getting older? I agree with you about people looking older, all my faves are pushing 40 and 50. Actually I'm attracted to Sung Hoon because of his natural look (tanned skin, square jaw and healthy body mass), I just wish his talent could compensate for what is seen as a flaw in South Korea media.

I think probably something was lost in translation here. Guilty towards whom? Then she goes on to say the rest of the cast was very young people. Is this a coy way to say she wishes younger actors had been given a chance (after all that's pretty much how she got her first break)?

I didn't notice people going easier on mediocre male actors. That said, it could be explained by the fact that she mostly does romance, and most romance watchers are female. So we want a good actress to relate to. Even if the ML's acting is not so good, we can objectify him and simply root for the FL. But when the FL gives you a whole lot of nothing...
That said, I'll check out Run On out of curiosity.

I'm happy I watched this. I wanted to see baby faced Kim Ji Hoon and first went for a few episodes. Then Lee Yu Ri just sucked me in with her crazy antics and fine acting. This is a nice Makjang drama with a really nice ending (which is hard to do for the longer dramas). The ML has some growth to be done, but once he's there, well he's there. The FL is the "nice Candy" type, but she also ends up growing a backbone. There's a really cute and talented child actor that will melt the hardest, darkest of hearts. That being said, your blood pressure is sure to rise from the bad guys' shenanigans, but the good guys are not dummies either and they can fight. Also, the dressing is not too outdated. So if you're interested in a good Makjang, I'll say go for this.

Funny that we both watched such an old drama, at a few hours interval ^^
That said, I agree with everyone being insufferable, but I like that by the end the FL is able to stand for her daughter, showing she has some backbone.
