This movie is somewhat dated, but at the time, I thought it was superb. It gives you a feel for the Chinese culture and what some women had to endure in the early twentieth century. Gong Li so beautiful and so tragic. The acting is still quite good and you will feel the women's pain for quite awhile. Although I did rewatch this, most would probably not.

This is a classic and in my top ten of all time movies. It is so tender and touching. The love of the little girl for the street magician who adopts her is beyond the love most people know in a lifetime. It reminds me of an unwanted, stray dog who attaches to the first human who feeds it and becomes unconditionally loyal.
The acting of the child is superb. Part of the story line was revealed in the summary, but is revealed quickly in the movie. The rejection of the child when the identity is discovered leads to heart wrenching moments. You become totally immersed in the Chinese culture and how male traditions influence the lives of the people. But don't despair, this is one of those "feel good" movies that you will want to watch over and over again. I have and will again.

This is a classic "slow burn" love story. The writer (Sorry I Love You, A Love to Kill, Thank You) is a Shakespeare disciple and destiny/fate is a common theme. The love, longing, and pain are all very intense. You have to like this kind of drama. I'm a fan.
The storyline is not unique. What some do not like is the ending. However, you know the ending long before you get there. There are several referrals to what their fate will be. So, the ending is not surprising or ambiguous. Yes, I think many of the sweet romantic scenes are at the beginning of Episode 11 before all the pain. But I think the story beginning and ending are all memorable, as is the music.
What make this drama so wonderful is the gorgeous couple. Their acting makes you believe in their unforgettable love. Yes, I've already rewatched it.

Why did this not get better ratings? It's awesome!
The love triangles pull at your heart because you end up liking them all and understand why they are the way they are. Rain and Shin Min Ah have great chemistry together. I especially like how Rain keeps his feelings inside (most of the time), so you're guessing whether he loves or hates her. Why did he passionately kiss her?
This writer also did I'm Sorry I Love you which has the same intense feelings. There are a lot of witty lines if you listen to the dialogue. Often writers have a difficult time with endings and I think this was the case here. I don't like the direction he took, but the lyrics to the music tell the story ahead of time. You pretty much know how things will end with the mood of the drama.
The music is outstanding and will keep this drama in your head for a long time!

I always watch K drama but then saw and fell in love with Autumn's Concerto. I thought this would be similar, so I really stuck it out. All the episodes seemed like endless conversations about why friends shouldn't become lovers. It was extremely boring. I honestly didn't see a lot of chemistry between Cheng You Qing and Li Da Rem to make me care whether they got together or not. She seemed somewhat arrogant and not so likeable. I did like the ending, but it didn't come soon enough for me. There are so many better dramas to watch.
Ariel Lin won my heart in It Started with a Kiss. It's one of my favorites. This is not.

This is one of the old, classic "slow burn" love stories that is so memorable for its intense love, mesmerizing music, and unforgettable pain. At times the story is corny, impossible, repetitive; however the love between Kwan Sang Woo and Choi Ji Woo make it all believable. It is a copy of the hugely successful Winter Sonata that started my K drama obsession.
STH is my favorite drama, after my "happy fix" Autumn's Concerto. The characters were superb. At first I thought Shin Hyun Joon was too old to be cast as the stepbrother, but his acting won me over.
Every minute of this drama is romance, not a lot of silly fillers. So if you like Romance, you won't be disappointed. Warning: you won't be able to get the music or love story out of your head afterwards!
