Rewatching it after a year, and it only gets better. First time I came upon it was through the K drama and it was by all means superior, everything that didn't make sense in the Korean version were neatly tied up in this one. Darker, more tragic, realer, more poetic...and in my opinion contains Kimura Takuya's best performance ever. All the artists were on top of their game...the direction simple yet impeccable brought the insidious nature of the plot together with the inherent sadness. In the Korean one, Seo In-guk is nicer, almost okay and the ending isn't inevitable. In this one, Yuko and Ryo seem like the only option for each other, I mean even after the big reveal their chemistry was compelling enough to sustain a feeling of massive loss. I don't know if it's because I haven't watched enough J drama, but this might be one of my if not the most favorite Japanese drama ever.
Hwang Min got the role because (i) he's a musician and (ii) he has millions of followers on Instagram. I liked…
Good actors make mediocre roles amazing, that is the point of skills. I doubt anyone else could've played Kang-min as well as him. I'm waiting for King of Saju but his co-star is a 17-year-old kid. MLL had balance. But I'm okay with him playing the role he got, he made it special and proved he can do a police procedural at ease. But I also believe we could've gotten something pleasantly different if he played Do-ha.
This is going to be an unpopular view, but I feel the 2ml should have gotten the Lead role. I love everything…
I doubt how unpopular that is. Seo Ji-hun is a better actor by a great margin, imo. The thing about the ml is that Do-ha turns into a sorely uninteresting character after you realise that he's just a good, naive guy (which happens pretty early on) and Min-hyun isn't skilled enough to make up for that lack of character development. But he's cute, you can't dislike him which imo again proves how good Seo Ji-hun is. He rivals with just his limited presence. I can't wait to see him again, he's my only worthy discovery through this series and I'm literally seeing quite a few powerhouse artists (Ji-on, So-hyun) for the first time in this series.
Can I just say how childishly cringy it was when Sol-hi called Do-ha oppa?-_- Why was he acting like that fgs?-_- PS: & in the next scene, Kang-min is being effortlessly cool-_-
Strongly agree. Sol-hi's adventures had more power, I would've even preferred an episodic show based on that.…
PS: upon reflecting on the idea some great plot points came to mind. She could grow with each case, Kang-min could get involved bcz she does deal with murky stuff, they could solve Do-ha's case together and the stupid romance that ate so many episodes could be discarded, a more mature relationship could've been portrayed between Sol-hi and Kang-min... endless possibilities!
I kinda wished the drama stuck to the FL's ability to seek out lies and her clients and their stories. That what…
Strongly agree. Sol-hi's adventures had more power, I would've even preferred an episodic show based on that. Do-ha is basically the most uninteresting character of this series. At one time I suggested I'd love if he was the killer only bcz it'd make him more interesting. Kang-min was amazing throughout, Seo Ji-hun is an excellent actor. I truly don't know what's stopping him from being casted in lead roles in good dramas.
Only 2 hours of runtime left, so I don't understand what people mean by the plot being exhausted. It was never a tight packed drama; I only liked it at the beginning and when the mystery earned traction. Both the romance and the resolution of the mystery let me down. But even I can guess what the last 2 episodes will be about. The next one about finally coming to terms with a long running case and the scattered pieces and the last one about the running romance and Sol-hi's new reality. Korean dramas have a long history of making 16-episode drama out of 9-episode materials, this one at least tried to go for a longer span.
Jo being the criminal was a bad move, his being in love with Do-ha was even worse. I thought it'd be more complicated, more fun but he's full of remorse and was planning to surrender but also dragging it while his eternal love is hiding out in a penthouse always wearing masks and never lying-_- After everything Do-ha suffered from his ex, Jo seemed so lackluster in his handling of Sayon, can we call that love, like obsessive love for 15 years? He even got married! I mean I understand that he wants to hide his feelings for Do-ha but that's just weird. And why is Do-ha still a priority for him? He has a daughter, for god's sake! As a caring friend with ulterior motives, his actions check out. Not as someone in love. And Kang-min, I can't get over how infinitely more impactful and attractive he is than both the leads. Somehow, he balances out a tough mixture of tenderness and rough idealism. I loved him throughout. I mean even the part when he asks Sol-hi to stay by the car, so much care! Do-ha lets a guy take his car to get her back and it all feels super weird. I like Do-ha on his own but not when he's interacting emotionally with others, especially So-hi, which is just sad bcz this is their story.
We need Lee Kang Min to have a happy ending pleaseee
I mean if happy ending means he's gonna get his love back, small chance of that-_- But even if he doesn't, can he not move on without immediately falling for somebody else? I don't like those generic shit. Like forcibly settling the side characters so that nobody feels bad for anybody. He's too good a character for any of that.
For me.its the chemistry thats definitely lacking, both FL and ML are goodIve seen their other kdramas, HMH is…
That first kiss scene was so weird, it was prolonged for no reason, and I felt nothing. They act juvenile in romantic scenes when they're both playing characters in their late 20s. I was surprised that so many people liked it. Bcz for me their chemistry went downhill from that very moment.
The only thing this episode proves is Yun Ji On is a pretty amazing actor and he and Seo Ji Hun are practically the highlights of this show. I don't like the twist. It ties everything up but I don't like it. Anyways, I think Jo killed the girl out of momentary anger, a true crime of passion (she probably asked him to stop liking Do-ha and that escalated or smth like that). I also don't think that he's dead now. If the ring wasn't there and that random lie of Jo congratulating Do-ha's new relationship, the twist could've been that he killed her out of anger and care for his good friend and held onto a corrosive lie to live a fake life bcz he was just too weak to confess everything and helped Doha out of guilt. The hidden homosexuality would not even be necessary, but whatever. His unrequited love is only expressed through his sudden panic attack and that matching ring, the rest are things that any friend with a weak moral would do.
This'd be a very bad twist and he even asked Do-ha playfully before whether he likes Sol-hi. His contempt for…
Yeah...I thought of you while reading a spoiler before this episode. I don't like it, and still think there is no reason for him to be in love with Do-ha to do what he did.

Damn...they really packed up for the ending. I love it, when things end and yet don't. I thought I'd hate if the CEO was criminally involved, but he seems capable of lying with a straight face. I can't tell who actually killed her and if Jo did kill her then why. And if the lil bro was actually in love with her how on earth is he still okay?-_- I mean shouldn't he like hate his murderous and plotting bro? Makes me wonder if he himself did kill her. Jo really seemed to care about Do-ha and scolded his crappy brother often...god knows what they cooked up for the ending...and I love this feeling! My understanding is little brother killed her and Jo is plotting to save him and hid or obscured some evidence needed. Jo probably helped him bury the body too. God what's with these brothers?-_- A bunch of psychopaths...too many mentally ill people in this series, I just wanted a rational killer who killed out of regular self-interest-_-
He was never pursuing her like a possession, he let her go the night she told him that she likes someone else. He cares about her, loves her and is mature enough to know when to get out of the way. It's only that Do-ha turned out to be a murder suspect and he felt compelled to keep her safe and look into the truth.
Am I the only one that wants him to be guilty? I think it would be so cool if for once, they do the least expected…
I mean it'd be fun but they don't have time to pull that off anymore and it's obvious that this sort of experimental, reality altering ending wasn't their goal. Also Min Hyun is struggling to act genuine in a romantic scene, I doubt he can pull off someone out of control or mentally confused or say, pure evil - these would require some nice acting chops.
