Couldn't agree more! I'm actually quite annoyed with this drama cause it had all the ingredients to be spectacular,…
Oh I totally get you on the drama slump. I have been skip watching so many terribly written c-dramas for the cute vibes because nothing of substance has come along and I'm not in the mood for the darker no-romance genres at the moment.
I always think back to 200- pound beauty and how easily we forgave the trash that was that movie. From the fat shaming to the shallowness of every character. Also lol I remember those scenes from YAMG. I almost threw my laptop on the floor. I loveee ZLS and I can't believe writers like to write in fat shaming jokes at all let alone for her. I think it's cause she has slightly (and she lost so much weight for who rules the world) chubby cheeks. But I think it just makes her look so beautiful.
And it isn't just the females (although ofcourse it's way more pressure for them) but look at Lee Dong Wook or anyone in the kpop industry. They just don't eat and that's considered beautiful. Sigh.
I'm with you on plastic surgery- it's ok in a small dose but when it becomes all you want to do - we have a bigger societal problem. I could (and it seems like am lol) write an essay about the problematic beauty standard in Asian dramas. That being said, there's a reason I have been an avid drama watcher for more than 12 years now and it's cause they are generally fun/inspiring/cute/loveable/positive and the reallly good ones can spark change in the real world.
We just need better writers who don't throw normal people under the bus for cheap laughs. And make up artists who don't think thick layers of foundation is the cure for old age! XD
Yeah, it is silly, but I was in the right mood for this type of silliness, cliché story...but the second half…
Yeah seriously - she ripped his book, gave him a totally different one and some candy and that as a CHILD became the point of his obsession? Do writers think that every single interactions 5 years old of opposite sex have = first love? It looked like she didn't even play much with him after she met the other kid, so what memory is there to hold on to?
Why does the FL keep saying the ML lied to her without reflecting on the fact that she lied to him multiple times too? He had his reasons for lying as did she...but since she's written like a 5 year old and everyone enables that she has zero self reflection.
Everyone treats her with kid gloves and so she has no growth:
-At the start of the drama she's a nobody paparazzi and by the end she doesn't even seem to be a paparazzi but now has a rich boyfriend. -Did she mature at all in the job she had to whilst her sister was sick? Nope. She just keeps getting saved by the ML. -Did she grow in being in a relationship? Nope. She is constantly insecure, threatens to break up multiple times, and is always worried about him cheating. And she remains like that till the end. -Even when the 2ml threatens her instead of actually coming up with a counter plan or you know talking to the ML (whom she says can solve every problem, she decided she's going to just give in and be kidnapped.
The writer reaaalllly did this character dirty. But even the actress took the role too far from cute and bubbly to dumb and annoying.
This....was something. I mean it's obvious from her dual role the FL could act- and act really well to the point where I kept checking if different actresses were playing the twins. But....the writer made the main twin so....immature. It was like watching a 13 year old in a relationship - tantrums and all.
ML was manipulative in a way that in real life would scream get outta here girl but somehow was still more mature and likeable than the female character. It's so weird how the writer made a guy who manipulated the FL more likeable than the actual FL. There was ZERO growth in her character btw. She does not change from start to finish except getting more sad towards the end. That's not character growth- that's just having emotions?
If you ignore the red flags ( and it's really easy to because of the writing), this can be cute at times and a semi-fun watch. The leads did have some chemistry but in the third act barely had any screen time as we are forced to watch the secondary couples instead. Production was good overall and OST forgettable.
This is completely bingeable and can be a good inbetween drama if you go in knowing you need to put aside the darkness of the ML and the terrible writing of the FL.
Absurdist humour paired with an cliched plot but decent cast and acting. NGL the first few episodes are really hard to get past and I was beginning to think this type of humour is not for me. But it does get better and slowly you start to get interested in the characters (rather than the plot). I really like the FL in this- she brought her character to life. However ML was a little too stiff in his acting.
The writing was a bit all over the place in this. I think that was on purpose to make the comedy work. Overall the comedic aspect just made me smile but not roll over laughing. A lot of slapstick humour that personally doesn't always land with me. But it's not terrible either.
I wish there were more romantic scenes in this drama but as it is more comedic than romantic it had very few scenes that were seriously romantic before quickly dissolving back into absurd humour. Is it worth the watch? If you are in-between dramas and have nothing else and want something easy and realllly lighthearted to watch then yes. Not if you are looking for an epic story ala My Girlfriend is an Alien.
Couldn't agree more! I'm actually quite annoyed with this drama cause it had all the ingredients to be spectacular,…
100%!! I already feel like we had impossible beauty standards that we struggled with in every aspect of the media around us. But the generation dealing with insta and tiktok literally have an AI telling them this is what you would look like if your face was "perfect". And I remember a few years ago when beauty cam apps were first big on phones people were already going in for surgery to look like what an app told them they should look like!
Even I had to delete my beauty cam app when I started to get thoughts like "I wish I looked like this in real life" or "man, why isn't my skin super smooth like in this photo"- and it is insidious how these thoughts just crept into my mind without me realising.
There's having healthy standards for yourself physically and then there's wanting to look like what an AI tells you you should look like. I do find this and fat shaming to be one of the terrible things in dramaland that I wish better writers would tackle. I mean we all love our good looking "oppas/noonas" but at the same time lets not make them have health issues to look a certain way!

Hahahah, or just let older actors look graceful on screen. It's OK to have wrinkles you know!
I hate beauty standards everywhere but esp in Asian dramas. I have seen how horribly it seeps into real life in the likes of SK/China. Off tangent but I have friends who will take these really terrible diet pills known to have terrible side effects to look thinner (when they are already thin!).
Dropped at ep 15. Tbh it's really draggy and keeps running in circles and the really interesting plot points are kind of treated as side tidbits instead of having good reveals. Feels like the director and editor didn't really know what they were doing.
And I swear one of the camera's had a broken lens cause I kept seeing something on the screen on certain angles. I even kept rubbing my screen thinking something had happened to my laptop! It was really lazily produced.
Also FL's acting was weak. She wasn't terrible, but she couldn't pull off the serious parts and obviously the writer has done little research into therapy. Side characters were so inconsistent too, I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to be disturbed by them or like them.
Wasted potential for the ML since it seems to be one of his few roles as a main lead.

Terrible and the FL can't act to saver her life. Watched the first 5 eps and then skipped to the end and it was not worth it at all, nothing improved and the plot is so cliched but not in a fun way. Totally not worth the watch. There are better fluff pieces out there than this mess.
Yeapp... it's something that makes me so uncomfortable about asian celeb culture....that they can only ever belong…
Lol not to delve completely in to politics on a drama forum but yeah, the fact that megadonors can be anonymous (and in America with their superpacs) it's just no wonder that companies are getting away with murder, climate and people be damned!
Yeapp... it's something that makes me so uncomfortable about asian celeb culture....that they can only ever belong…
Thanks and yeah I completely agree with you.....you know what's a real scandal? Politicians spending tax money on themselves and companies lobbying said politicians for financial gain over human interests.
Not people dating. That's the most normal thing in the world.

I'm not sure but it's definitely something that was purposely marketed to them by these idol making companies. Since the likes of SM see idols as money making products they sold it as such to fans- that this is a product that only belongs to you. I'm theorising that that's where the "oppa/noona only belongs to the fans" idea came from.
The entertainment business is creepy af, both internally and externally. I just want to enjoy dramas/music but not at the expense of human life.
Finally it's about time she pursued love and happiness instead of being loyal to fans by staying single. I hate…

What really got to me in this drama was all the fat shaming of Xinxin's character. 1) can we get past using "fat shaming" as comedic relief and 2) that actress isn't even a little fat. I wouldn't even call her normal sized, she's actually on the skinnier side except by Cdrama standards. She's also seriously gorgeous and whenever she was on screen she stole the show. Honestly she was prettier than the main FL (cause they styled the FL like a kid). It really disgusted me that they kept putting her down in terms of her looks in this drama for jokes.
It's really ridiculous that in 2022 writers still think of this as humour.
But that's not surprising since the writer did nothing for this cast.
