Ep 10 basically gave a foreshadowing of the climax. Everything is now set in motion for the purge to happen.
The villains have found the “tyrant’s” weakness - both in fact. Since Plan A (the crown prince’s assassination attempt) failed, they now can either go with plan B (his mother’s death) or Plan C (🔪Yeong).

Honestly I’m more surprised that he kept her alive at all. She’s frail and old afterall? Not exactly difficult to assisinate her making it look like it was “natural” 🫠

Can’t imagine how this will end given the preview🥲

Since many compare this to Moon Lovers, perhaps some were expecting a similar kind of pacing with the romance?

Given the king's reputation of taking many "tributes" even if it's for political reasons, I guess they wanted to make it a slow burn to show just how different Yeong is to him? He loves her but will not abuse his power to possess her?

Honestly I'm currently in denial over the eventual "hurt" ever since last night's preview...really hoping their ending won't be tragic in the future timeline

TBF the king cannot just start a relationship with his royal cook. We need to be mindful of the existing political situation within the kingdom (since this is a principal plot point) and standard royal protocol. Not to mention the fact that Yeong wishes to go back home so logically would not want to get entangled in anything that could hurt her (physically/ mentally).

I wouldn’t say there’s` no romance either. The king has made it extremely clear - even to an alarming degree - just how important she is to him. Even Yeong now can sense his change in feelings towards her. Will it end in K-trauma? I have no idea as of now but it’s pretty clear that they will soon reach their “forbidden romance” era.

The food competition in a way reflects the ridiculousness of their situation. The Ming envoy was exploiting his nation’s name for his own benefit. The competition rests on good faith and respect to your own skills. Without even really trying, the King’s wish to expose the truth happened - the envoy kept showing his true colors and even the viper “uncle’s” slimy nature.

That being said, it would have been interesting to see how things would have moved forward if Joseon didn’t win and the royal letter didn’t exist.

Ngl throughout the last meal scene, I felt stressed. Even the food taster’s “eye popping” reaction felt scary🙈

Netflix is testing our patience as usual- try to stay in the honest path and help with the global ratings or embrace the darkness🙈🙈🙈


It's in their contract- the original broadcaster/ principle OTT gets first dibs. That's why most of the ongoing cdramas/ jdramas are far behind in Netflix.

A 2 episode gap isn't bad though considering how we used to wait for months after the drama concludes to have access to WEEKLY episodes 🙈

I haven’t watched ep 12 yet but may be it’s his unconscious way of protecting her from society’s judgemental eyes? The way he initially panicked around her mum even kind of implies it.

I think it was a mistake since ep 12 is no longer visible in my account.
