*** 2011 Jan - Lin falls for XG during a banquet but doesn't get a chance to introduce himself. Shortly after this, Lin ends up in a life/ career changing car accident while he was on his way to meet XG for the first time on a date at "her" request as communicated by his friend. This scene is important to understand the ML's behaviour so if you haven't seen this properly, let me know as my explanation is too brief here TBH.
Mid 2011 - Mid 2012- XG's senior uni life begins. She has a one sided crush on one of her batch mates (ZX) which unintentionally attracts a lot of problems (jealous/ unreliable roommates + college gossip). ZX does not accept her proposal to date. Heart broken, XG goes on a short European study tour with her cousin for about 1-2 months.
Sep 2012 onwards- XG starts working and eventually meets her very erratic new Deputy Manager, our dear Mr Lin.
We are currently in Feb 2013- early March 2013 approximately as of ep 22 (Chinese New Year from the skii trip arc was in Feb 2013)

TBF aside from the overeaction, from XG's side it's fair enough since she doesn't know why Lin would purposely cause a rift between them (logically he should have told her that he did send her a message when she asked about it). As soon as she realized the truth, she stopped what she was doing and tried to cheer him up instead since she knew it must have been so hard for him at the hospital.
What was that scene with the 2ML cooking? And why does she still looking in love with him?
It's a call back to when XG told her colleague how just because a guy cooks for you doesn't mean that he's in love with you. This was the scene she was thinking about- only now we have ZX's POV. The first time he cooked was out of gratitude/ trying to save money but after that it was his small way of trying to look after XG (since our dear chatty bro let it slip that she got sick after eating takeout always).

Lin's cousin misunderstood/ or was led to believe that the god daughter was Nie's illegitimate daughter. He already knows XG but didn't know that Lin was interested in XG so didn't bother to be clear when he passed the message.

I guess it helps that it was a coincidence (for the family) and the mothers actually used to know each other and haven't met in a long time.
Chinese Chaebol (idk what you call them in China) families work differently from ordinary families. Everybody knows eachother's dirty laundry so it's understandable why XG's family is kind of low key cautious. We'll learn more in the future episodes🙈
