Soft power, baby steps! They have found a way to make their presence and their propaganda felt all over the world, but gently! And I guess it works better and faster than they expected. Just look at this site: the News articles about chinese dramas are slowly overtaking korean ones while the Feeds have been completely taken over by posts about c dramas for over a year now. China keeps churning them out and we keep lapping them up and begging for more!
Lol. It is watchable when you're doing the dishes, which is what I've been doing. However, it has kept faith with…
Want to See You is one of Ba Vinh's first dramas. He's been with O2 Productions ever since he started and they have been going through chronic (not acute) existential crisis. They need money to produce their dramas so Ba Vinh keeps making videos asking for donations in his broken English. I've been watching VBLs for the past two years and there have always been such demands on viewers. I do not think they are ready to go down and out yet: they are producing longer and longer webdramas (Ba Vinh's last completed drama had 20x40min episodes!) I guess their appeals for donations are working! Good for them! As for the quality: I feel that they have lost their edge. They used to be different, gutsy and original but nowdays they seem so tame and going the mainstream route. I haven't seen his latest drama Teenager Judge but the trailer announces a stepbrothers' romance so....

I don't know if the Thai drama is a remake (they claim it is based on a book!) but both dramas have practically identical plotlines and the Vietnamese one was realeased years before the Thai one....so if the shoe fits.... Ba Vinh was so good in it. So much better than in his recent dramas: frankly he is getting worse and worse with every new project.

To be fair, Koreans used it only once, 15 years ago and never again, according to the MDL search engine (gay romance + deafness).
Have you seen the Vietnamese version (probably the original) of Thai Last Twilight called Want To See You? I haven't seen the Thai version because you could not pay me to watch those two on screen (Thai BL ships are beyond my comprehension!) but I liked the Vietnames one a lot, low budget and all...
See Your Love, mentioned below, actually follows all these commandments except for the first one where you might want to add a handicap (in this case deafness of the main character!). What I most vividly remember is the number of times one ML found a way to trip and always fall in the vicinity of the other ML's lips: at least once per episode during the courtship period (i.e. the first half!). I have to congratulate the director for the diversity of these falls: it must not have been easy coming up with different ways to fall! And of course, there is the music: all the time, without a break.....I wanted to chuck my laptop out the window!
On the other hand, any of these commandments are difficult to apply to Bad To Bed!
By the way, is this one any good? Three episodes in, and you already got practically all of them! lol
Isn't this just a long ad for Line messaging service?
The video is of the very low quality, many subs are missing and more often than not either the sound or the subs or both are not in sync with the picture....should I just be grateful I can watch this cute little web drama ad?
I am watching this now (on fsharetv.co) and there are some parts that are not subbed (voice over). So I looked it up on a different site and there is no voice over in that version (Criterion Video). So, are there two versions of this film?
So am I. Even though I find the distinction important, I also know that they both can ce violently homophobic in general (see recent demonstrations in Korea led by Evangelicals) while being kind in particular. Maybe the director here decided to merge two churches? Catholics are high on pomp and circumstances with very rigid services while protestants tend to be more laid back. Speaking of church, have you seen Sonnet 18, a Koren short film? I am very impressed by your reviews, in depth and very detailed!
Thank you for the review: I found the film's ending rather open to interpretation, though mostly just unclear. Did they eventually decide to continue flying towards the sun together and brave the heat and the society's prejudices, or did they choose safety?
One thing though confuses me in your review: as far as I know pastors officiate in Protestant churches not Catholic (who have priests). Though they are both Christian churches, they often do not react in the same way.. The religious scenes in this film look more like protestant temple services and not Catholic ones. "Pastor" is used in Catholic churches ONLY in the USA and Canada, says Google. I don't know anything about church in Taiwan and maybe the translation is not accurate?
Why is the background score so similar to, practically a rip off of Ravel's Bolero? Very distracting! I keep listening to music instead of focusing on the plot....
Doom & gloom, both in the story and visually, can't catch a break, whatever can go wrong does go wrong, stoic long-suffering mother, beautifully shot, skilfully acted, subtly written....Now I need something to cheer me up!
Yeah, I don't know what's going on. I feel like something's wrong with me for not liking this show, but the whole…
So, what happened to your Eternal Butler review? It vanished! lol
I've been looking for it because I wanted to tell you about a Taiwanese BL that does not look Taiwanese at all. Bad to Bed https://mydramalist.com/778366-bad-to-bed with a curious plot and actors looking like adults and not starved idols. The episodes are just 15-20min long with the rest being BTS footage. A low budget production, mind you!
I came back home, opened MDL to find something to watch and saw you just posted a new review. Thanks for the laughs! Just what I needed after a bad week I had. 🥰This must be good: you rated it so high!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do! I hope my friend didn’t oversell it for you. A lot of people can’t stand it, and the acting & humour are…
I'd love to read the 10 commandments of TBL?
I tried watching Ossan's Love ages ago and could not deal with the quirkiness that is japanese humour. I never intended to watch the Thai remake:. GMMTV has been consistent there: every one was a total failure! The "couples" have cultish followings and their"ships" can do no wrong as long as they are gracing the fans' screens, who cares about the plot or the overall production quality. GMMTV is milking the cow dry and I fear they are going to destroy the Thai BL industry. Because one day, even the hardest fan will have had enough of insipid plots and the same guys falling in love over and over again.
Weird incomprehensible scary. This is not a BL (the main characters may or may not be gay and there is absolutely NO romance), this is just pure psychological horror.....
