You're not alone. I've been rooting for this one since the very beginning, even read the novel. Now, it's turned to this piece of sh*t. Such as disappointment. It's unrecognizable since episode 31. I have been watching double speed on FL's parts. ML is the only reason why I continue to watch the drama. It was an 8.5 at 30 episodes and will stay that way despite these last ten episodes. A shame, it could have been a stellar Republic drama but someone has to changed it.

There was a rumor of some changes to the script before the drama airs. That someone from 2ML's team wants to create "love drama" between FL and 2ML. 2ML actor is from a big company. Seeing as how this drama is low on investment the changes to the script is possible. Also, watching thus far, I think that rumor might be true. You can clearly see the whitewashing of 2ML's previous actions and even his revenge for his sister just sudden disappear after episode 31. 2ML in the novel was despicable but well liked because he is evil. However, the interpretation of the character on screen has no continuity, there's a sense of split in the first half to the second half of the drama. So, now not only do we have a collapse of 2ML character but also FL (the acting wasn't convincing enough to let audience know she still loves ML rather in the last few episodes it's the opposite to 2ML). To be honest, 2ML in the novel is Rong Dingkun not 2ML in the drama. 2ML in the drama does not have such a big role in the novel. Such a shame, really. I was hoping the drama will go out with a bang, oh well....

Author follows the play and updates or comments occasionally. She will usually come out if there are heavy discussion on the drama vs. book. However, she hasn't said anything yet for the last 8 episodes.

The adaptation added some scenes while deleted some. So far, it's pretty much heading in the same direction as the novel. However, the biggest disappointment that got novel readers railed up was the addition of 2ML's sudden romantic feeling towards FL after they came back to Shanghai from Beijing. 2ML was a thorough villain/lunatic however it was not the case in the drama. With that said, although I can't recall what event that is but no, there wasn't such scene like in episode 37 trailer in the novel. There was no such scenes of creating jealousy. I actually have no idea how these last four episodes will look like. ML's parts are still the same, taking responsibilities and working hard to atone, but FL resolutely gave up on their love and engage in full on revenge is not. In the original she can differentiate her hate and still love ML.

I heard rumors ZhouZhou will join "Ping Pong of China" film crew with Deng Chao after "Almost Lover" wraps this month. Waiting to hear confirmation if it's true.

I actually enjoyed the last few episodes. Especially the ML's parts and the father and son dynamic. The implementation of his plans is just badass. I love action driven ML. Not the trio though, I admit, I kind of skip their parts. As they are basically just strategizing what ML has already done or is doing. lol

I understand. I was heartbroken too. More so for his sake than hers. I replied earlier to other posters that at this point if this adaptation had a bad ending I'm fine with it. It was that crushing. However, I believe it will be a happy ending or an open ended. There are four episodes left. Let's see how the scriptwriters unravel this blood feud and get us an acceptable ending.

No, you're not wrong. It's a hit or miss for me too. I've read the novel so know there's reciprocal love between the leads. However, it's not expressed well in the drama in some places. The scenes are very similar to the novel so not sure what happen.
Just a thought, I don't want to fault anyone but Shizhen is played very similar to Si Teng in Rattan.

City of Streamer is detail heavy so unless you really focus on it it will get confusing. Shizhen and Jiashang's story is the basis to determine at the end if their love is strong enough. We'll see the outcome next week.

Forgot to add somethings. Jaishang is "not smart/intelligent" but can get into military pilot academy. He can self study and pass college sophomore test. Not smart but can catch the person that wired the code to Yang at the interrogation scene with uncle Zhou. Not smart but made the gardener confesses to being a spy and quickly demonstrates how secret codes are carried out. Not smart but investigate and found the truth behind Wenchunli. Not smart but able to create a situation to force his father's hand to handover the opium dens. I could go on. Man, I don't know. I want to be "semi-intelligent" not a so smart person too. Sigh....:D

Oftentimes you'll have to refer back to previous episode to connect the dot. Or wait for the next episode or longer for clues to create a full picture. Good luck!

Haha, no need. Watching this drama is also a detective work. There are clues sprinkle with each progressing episodes. If one clue is missed then the truth will be distorted. Everything is presented in the drama, there's nothing else I can say. (shrug shoulders)

Although, I have to say I enjoyed these last two episodes immensely. Jaishang vs. the trio at Meng's house. Lol, it was kind of boring watching the trio seriously strategizing how to demolish the Rong's black businesses all the while Jiashang has already implemented his plan. Selling those shares for silver money (which inflation does not affect, especially during war time), exposed his step-mother to Zhou's true character, effectively handle those greedy shareholders and patiently uncovered his father's dirty secret by himself. Man, handsome Jiashang was absolutely badass. :D

Yes, she was raped, in both novel and drama. In the novel it is more descriptive but not so in the drama. After the auction when she went missing. Shizhen rescue her from Meng's men. When they were in the car Shizhen said she's taking them to the hospital to stop Fanghua's bleeding. However, there wasn't any visible blood on her so it's by deduction that yes, she was raped and bleeding heavily. Otherwise, if she was just assault there weren't be a need to get marry.

Yeah, it's kind of weird actually.. Most women in the drama have a storyline except for her. She was a dancer before 2ML made her a movie star. She seems happy as a pamper mistress. At the same time has no affections for 2ML as she doesn't seem to get jealous. Not much is known about her so, yeah, it's weird how she's just there.

Yes, Baoli is 2ML's mistress. Can't remember what exact episode but it's the one before the auction when FL wanted to get invitation to attend and visit Baoli at her home. 2ML walks out from the bedroom in a robe. Not sure if you've noticed but in this drama wearing sleepwear together is a euphemism to having an intimate relationship. lol
