On your last statement. It's an open knowledge in China that social media such as Twitter and Google products and Facebook are being banned and accessible only via VPN. Wonder why? Let's go back to how extremists terrorist attacks starts in Xinjiang. Back when Facebook was still in China, it played a vital role in how terrorists organized their attacks in the region. The Chinese government ordered the company to block such communication but was rebuffed because the company uses western freedom and democracy to not allow such terrorists to carry on. Consequently, western social media as mentioned above are no longer in China. I think the Chinese government probably have in hindsight what the west is going to bring to China, e.g. the wave after wave of bias reporting, accusations and hypocrisy not just to the government but to the Chinese people. Think about the "Chinese" virus and how it has create trauma for Chinese and the Asian community world worldwide. Now look at China's own social media from weibo to Wechat to bilibili. They are no less innovative than Twitter, Facebook and Google. Honestly, I'd say they are more so as I am using them. With that said, I'm appreciate the government for being transparent unlike YouTube, that I know of, to delete videos based on their new rules (if you have read the new terms of use then you'll know what I mean).

Something to think about. Wonder why the ethnic groups in China are not restricted to one-child policy?? Please compare the births of ethnic groups, especially, Uyghur to the Han Chinese. If mosques are being destroyed why are there currently 39,000 mosques in China and 25,000 alone in Xinjiang. Hmm. And wonder why there haven't been any terrorist attacks in Xinjiang for many years after surveillance is activated? Have you seen the images from the attacks? Would you rather have that then now? Take a look at the GDP of Xinjiang as well while you are at it. No government is perfect but I am all for saving lives then deaths.

Word of advise, learn to discern facts from fiction and learn to ask questions. Read from multiple sources not just one no matter how believable or how you want it to be true. Besides your usual Dailymail and DW news, try RT (Russian news), CGTN (China), CNA (Singapore) and The Grayzone among others to enlightened your views a bit.

Yes. The first several episodes are usually a good indicator of whether or not the series will be good. Right off the bat, the characters and scene transitions are so much more better and smoother than Martial Universe.

Tell me about it! It totally throws me out of the drama whenever the rap song comes on. Ergghhh I think a rock song would be a bit more fitting than rap with these type of custom/fantasy drama.

With the amount of time before the air date and financial investments for this project I expect high quality overall. So far the series has not met them. The choppy/sloppy and cut-and-paste together scenes make the final product looks very amateur. And don't get me start on the music and the custom designs. There are just too many flaws altogether that I am hoping against hope that it improves in later episodes. Otherwise this will be a big flop, at least for me. Which would be very unfortunate as I really like these type of Chinese fantasy/magic series.

I heard that Ice Fantasy was good but I never got the urge to even start watching. The custom design was too cringey to watch- western/Lord of the Ring-ish looking. I'll try to stick around for this show, although I've honestly just fast forwarded ep 5 & 6. And the weird choppy editing does not help. LOL Maybe I'll just watch Shi Xiao Long's cut scenes. :)

I am objectively holding back from rating this drama until the very end. Watching to episode 6 so far has been lukewarm. Maybe my expectation was too high? The editing was all over the place. There was no continuation from one frame to the next. Characters introduction was abrupt. I have a feeling like I'm missing something. We are just thrown into a drama world where we are expected to know what's going on. As far as character development, my understanding from watching a lot of Chinese drama is that it will take at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the series for any development between characters. So, we'll see how the relationships form in the next 5-10 episodes.
I've never read the novel so I'm viewing this as a new series. I am still very confuse as to who is who. The acting was mediocre across the board except for the older actors, their acting is a little bit more solid. I was hoping the main character would not be so typical of most wuxia/fantasy; it was kind of annoying so I'm hoping he grows out of it soon. Reading from the comments it does seem that he eventually will. And finally, I have to say that I am bias towards my favorite childhood actor/martial artist Shi Xiao Long/Ashton Chen so I can say that the Fire Tiger stole all the scenes when he appears. ^_^ I'm waiting for him to show up in his human form next week.

I, on the other hand, prefer the 2001 Taiwanese. It was the best! Not part 2 though, it was painful to watch. Would not even recommend it on my enemy. LOL I'm super excited for this reboot though. Hopefully the producer will do a decent job the second half as I believe it's going to be over 40 episodes long.

Looking at the trailer this seems like an interesting, different, premise from your typical Chinese period drama. Can't wait to see it.

For me, crying equates to therapeutic. Like all my troubles are washed away. This is the reason why I gravitate towards Asian TV/movies because they did/do such a great job of projecting these so call "weak" emotions by much of US Americans onto the viewers. I have no shame in admitting that I am an emotional person. And importantly it creates a connect between me (the viewer) to the characters portrayed on screen which makes all the more profound and everlasting impression.

That sounds like a fun series to watch. But with China these days it's hard to tell. Majority of the TV series are heavy on newbies or at least up and coming in the moment popularity status. Personally, it doesn't really matter if he'll get cast to the drama series you mentioned. I'm sure he has something line up so whatever he has in future I'll look forward to rather then be dependent solely on if he'll garnered for his role as Little Flame. ~Thanks for the info, Erudite!

I am definitely a fan of his. :) I have been following him on his webio account so do know a bit of his activities but since he's a very private person there aren't many postings. You're right that he's not as hungry to be in the limelight as others. Partly, I think, due to his fame growing up. He's had a taste of being a super stardom. I can understand he's wanting to get good roles yet shy away from the public eye and live his personal life private. I will continue to support him! Xiaolong/Ashton has the skills and talents so it's a shame that China's not promoting Chinese martial arts like they used to. Nowadays we're bombarded with fast frames of actors in action and mediocre CGI. I do miss the heydays of HK action/martial arts cinemas. Sorry had to rant a little. Anyway, looking forward to him in this drama.

I'm only watching this for Ashton/Shi Xiao Long. He is being under utilized in Mainland China. Wish he'll get more martial arts drama/movie soon. I really missed seeing him on screen. Particular on the big screen. The few of his action dramas are far and in between. And especially the ones he did within the last couple of years are hard to find anywhere or not subbed; maybe because it focuses mainly on real action acting which might not be popular to main stream audience. Here's hoping this big production will elevate and showcase his skills (acting and martial arts) and get more roles.
