Da Rim doesn't think she deserves JH. She's been constantly denying his actions and her feelings. In fact, while…
This!!! If you like, you can post this again as a separate comment. Many viewers are feeling bad for Ji Hyeok, understandably so, but Da Rim, too, has very valid concerns. Ji Hyeok's love for her maybe unwavering and true but to take a gamble based off of that? That, in my opinion, would have felt calculative. Job security isn't something that Da Rim can afford to gloss over in her circumstances.
With the sister I feel like there's hope. Her plans haven't crossed the line yet and her sidekick isn't exactly…
OMG! I loved it too that Ji Hyeok wasn't part of the ribbon cutting ceremony. It was surprising because dramaland seems to be overpopulated with hidden CEOs and geniuses who are the core participants in big events even if their actual job titles don't exactly justify their participation in such events.
Ji Hyeok is suffering a lot, but his internal turmoil is 100% better than if he was like βI donβt care if…
I was so afraid of this when I had watched the preview of episode 07 last week. I am so glad that the preview was misleading and Ji Hyeok clearly drew the line even though both of them seemed ready to bawl.
He's definitely out of line but he doesn't know about Jeju. Between the "sleezy supervisor" who hits on…
I really hope that Seon U has a crashout, maybe due to the reappearance of his ex, and Ha Yeong is the one who keeps him and his son afloat. That this crashout reveals to him that he never liked Da Rim romantically but as a ride or die friend who was always there. That he was conflating his feelings of gratitude and romantic love. Dang, it'd be nice if we get moments of introspection from both Seon U and Ha Yeong, like we did from Ji Hyeok and Da Rim through Ji Hyeok's nightmares and Da Rim's fears and recollections from her childhood/adulthood.
Preach! Never have I wanted the living daylights to be punched outta a fictional character. GJH should have set…
Yep! I was referring to those two. They'd be a good match.
TY obliterated the chances of a fourth couple. Even though he has his own daddy-mommy issues, I have no sympathy for him. He strikes me as someone who revels in other people's misery if he himself is miserable. I despise such people with a passion. It's okay if such an individual is not nice but to deliberately make fairly innocent individuals the target of your spite? A big NO!
Yes! The sister is a grey individual. I don't like her but I don't despise her either. It'd be interesting if Ji Hyeok of all people ends up standing up for her.
It was intriguing. I had a feeling that was why TY fired the poor driver. However, TY protecting GJH, feels too much of a stretch. He feels too spiteful of a person unless they reveal something new. π€·π»ββοΈ
I think also the torture now also stems from him sort of understanding that infidelity (or wanting to) may be…
True! It astonishes him that he's unable to let Da Rim go and I think deep down he was aware that he would not be able to which is why he was so hell bent on making her resign initially and playing hooky from work, and not just because he felt betrayed. Poor Ji Hyeok is waddling in a very grey area. However, I am so glad he firmly drew the line, he could not have handled it better in that situation. Even though it's unfortunate that such a line had to be drawn and both were almost about to bawl. Great scene.
I agree that this episode was super important and necessary, and him deciding in ep 6 to essentially let himself…
I agree. I am really hoping that the truth gets revealed today, even if it happens in the last few minutes. I hope that the makers properly flesh out Da Rim's despair, angst and heartbreak at Ji Hyeok's engagement. It's one thing to convince oneself that they don't need love while their love is unattached, and another when their love is about to be in a relationship with someone else.
Oddly enough, there are subtle commentaries in this drama about marriage, loss, abandonment, love amongst other things. I love that this drama leaves it upto me whether or not I want to think and engage further. π I need most of my dramas to be fun where I can leave my logic at the door.
I understand your reservations with Seon U. In my opinion, individuals with abandonment issues are often able to hide it well. I also suspect that he may have low self-esteem given his divorce. Da Rim and he are of the same station in life while Ji Hyeok and Ha Yeong aren't. While as much as I want Seon U to reciprocate Ha Yeong's affection, even if Seon U were to open up to the idea of dating someone new, I don't think he would think it'd wise to date a chaebol's daughter. He is already aware of how lowly her mother thinks of him before he could even show his portfolio.
So true! Ji Hyeok certainly was subconsciously waiting for the love of his life. Very like his mother, it seems that he could love only one individual. Unfortunately for his mother, she fell for a POS in an arranged set up who she has now grown to be terrified of. Ji Hyeok refuses to follow in the footsteps of his father even though he often finds himself very nearly doing so.
π― on point!JH's self reflection scene was epic honestly! I didn't expect it to be so visceral πMy hope for…
IKR?! At first, I was like what's his father doing in his apartment, since he didn't seem the kind to drop in on his kids. Then, when his father transformed into himself... Woah, the personification of Ji Hyeok's self hatred was executed so well. Tbh, the terror and fear of turning into one's parents for those from dysfunctional families and repeating the sins of those who came before them is very real. Also, the inability to break the cycle is also very real. Gosh, I didn't expect this kind of introspection in a romcom, by a chaebol character no less, LOL.
I am really hoping that Seon U wakes up from his misguided idea of romantic love and realises that Ha Yeong is the real deal. The girl is ride or die, she would be a good fit in their tiny family.
Ha Yeong has certainly taken the hint. I love how quick she is on the uptake. Looks aren't working, so what?! Next target: her crush's palate. π€£
I did! I was caught unawares. I really hope Ji Hyeok comes to know the truth by the end of episode 08.
that's what i love about this show! every episode feels relevant and crucial to the development of the plot and…
Thank you for kind comment. π Tbf, amongst all the laughs and giggles and some of the more wilder aspects of the plot, some very real issues and raw emotions have been snuck in which certainly elevates this romcom to a more cerebral experience if the viewer so desires. I like the fact that the drama allows me to choose: to either chuck my logic at the door, or think a bit more about some of its more subtle nuances. Even both the conversations between the mothers of the two leads is very telling. One, faced with crisis, chose to pick up the pieces and carry on no matter what, and another, unable to cope, simply wasted away. Interestingly, even though both women were faced with crises, yet, the nature of their marriage also influenced their responses which in turn influenced their respective children's perspective on love and family. It's a rabbit hole, LOL.
While many think that E07 didn't offer anything new, however, in my opinion, this episode is important for the overall development of the story. In this episode, Ji Hyeok was confronted by two different representations of fatherhood. Da Rim likens his actions to that of her father who was dependable and reliable while Ji Hyeok sees some of those very acts of service towards Da Rim as evidence of him following the footsteps of his nasty father. His inner turmoil was beautifully portrayed especially given the fact that this is essentially a romantic comedy. The stakes are very real in the universe of this drama.
As far as Seon U is concerned, I like that he's a complex, flawed character, and unlike many viewers, I like the fact that he's not your run-of-the-mill childhood friend pining after the FL. What many seem to forget, he doesn't know that Da Rim and Ji Hyeok were previously acquainted. So, chasing after Da Rim is fair game even though he's yet to come clean to her. I admit it'd have been better for them to have made Seonu her completely platonic BFF who suddenly finds himself playing the role of the devoted "husband". It'd have been funny watching him fend off Ha Yeong initially. However, even now I feel not everything is lost. Seon U needs to let Darim go ASAP. Tbh, his affection seems to stem more from a fear of the change in the status quo rather than from being romantically replaced. I sorta get that. It has been implied that he'd been devastated by his divorce. The family that was his anchor is suddenly slipping out of his reach: with Da Rim's mother being in the hospital and Da Rim behaving out of character with her boss. Also, Ji Hyeok assuming that Da Rim got married early to fill the void left by her father may be a reflection of Seon U's own failed marriage given how he grew up motherless.
Coming to Ji Hyeok, he is way more naive and sweet than he realises. He thinks he's this cool, unruffled go-getter in a world where love doesn't exist, yet, chases high and low a woman he barely knew yet fell for deeply. He can argue all that he wants about a dynamite kiss, yet, in my opinion, her casually being kind to a hapless mother had already set the wheels in motion. He has a soft spot for vulnerable mothers given his history. The kiss just sped things up to a whirlwind. π He had planned on coasting for 6 months even before he knew about Da Rim but has come around eventually.

HY is an anomaly in that family. Perhaps it was for the best that she was neglected by the rest of her family, otherwise she may have ended up as TY 2.0. *shudder*
On a different note, Seon U, as he watched HY happily chat with Jun, almost looked wistful about how things may have been different for his son had Jun's mother stuck around.
HY continues to be hilarious. Looks cannot help her get her desired man?! No worries, she will follow the age old technique of paving the way to a man's heart through his stomach. π€£
