White Christmas is an old thriller
IKR?! Tbh, I did come across Full House first by sheer accident. I was searching up the OST of Full House, the American show and Google kept showing results for the Korean one. I remember getting annoyed since I am more of a rock music fan than sentimental ballads. Then, I came across My Sassy Princess on YT outta nowhere. I didn't watch all episodes, but the few I did interested me with their traditional costumes. πŸ˜„ Then I came across Seo Young, My Daughter recaps which led me to discover KBS Drama Specials since the drama was a KBS production. Adolescent Melody was my first. Funnily enough, I had not even been looking for KDrama recaps and yet, SMD led me to KBS drama specials and AM sealed the deal due to Kwak Dong Yeon. He was a teenager then, just starting out, I guess. I remember the exact specific moment in the drama which made me go this kid is massively talented. Also, since AM was based in the countryside, I wanted to see more of the scenic beauty of rural Korea. I have a thing for long winding roads through greenery on either side, and the ML in AM had to cycle each day on such a road to get to school. πŸ˜… As far as I can recollect, White Christmas showed up in the recommendations. However, I have not been watching K-Ent as long as you. It's been less than a decade. πŸ˜„

JH doesn't believe in love so eventhough he has dated (and probably kissed) before, it was nothing serious- superficial…
Ooh. Is it any good?

I joined MDL after lurking here for years. (I am not exactly active on SM platforms.) I was in a bad place and decided to join on a whim because I wanted to be distracted. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ™ˆ Soon after, LR happened which is when I started commenting in earnest.

Gosh! You did?! Hehe.

I totally get the temptation and have replied back a few times. For instance, I did clap back once to a comment on LR's page at the time when it was blowing up (I think around episodes 8 - 10) and was thus attracting a lot of trolls. I was particularly annoyed that day due to real life issues and that commentator's trolling was the last straw. πŸ˜… Most times I just scroll past because certain posts just end up destroying my viewing experience. The struggle was real during Motel California which had a flawed heroine. Almost everyone hated her with a passion whereas I found her relatable, LMAO. I may not lash out like her, but then my tolerance for life's unfairness is unhealthily high, however, I understood where she was coming from. Had it been an a**hole ML with a tragic backstory, I believe the audience may have been more forgiving because we are more used to such characterisation of male leads.

Did ya join because of LR?! I had always assumed you were an OG! 😍 And I agree with the user above. Most of the time, our thoughts align. 🀭

IIRC, no. It's not a generic good triumphs over evil show. I had first watched it during the time I first discovered KDramas, mostly through Korean Specials. KDramas were my gateway to SEA entertainment. Looking back, I realise that I had accidentally discovered some of the better, underrated gems before I came across the more generic KDrama hits. πŸ˜„

Umm... You may be disappointed. 🀣 Two (still very underrated) others steal the show.

It's absolutely friggin' awesome. Its cast is basically a bunch of good looking people who can also act. πŸ˜… They have become big now. I watched it years ago and was very impressed. Just as dark as I liked my dramas then.

"Taiga drama is the name NHK gives to the annual year-long historical drama television series it broadcasts in Japan." (From Wikipedia) They are usually around 50 episodes with around 50 minutes of runtime each. For instance, the ongoing drama, Unbound or Berabou TsutajΕ« Eiga no Yume-banashi is a Taiga. Most taigas never get subbed or are abandoned midway.

Yes, that very show.

I am waiting for TF to get completed. Love the leads!

I feel you. JDramas, especially Asadoras and Taigas are a test of patience and persistence. There have times when I have given up on a show till it got subbed years later. However, very grateful to fansubbers.

Despite FFL having flaws, I can see myself rewatching it. For some inextricable reason, I really enjoyed the story post ep 10. Almost all the people I was rooting for stayed alive at the end. Also, the FL and ML seem to be in tune with each other most of the time.

I can't remember why but I never got around to watching the J version. Was it a lack of subs?

I have been meaning to watch AYTO, yet, the first episode fails to capture me every time I try. Will take your word for it and watch it one of these days.

Did I mention that I am also watching Spirit Fingers? It's very wholesome and the ML is endearingly dumb. He says the wildest things to the utter shock and embarrassment of the FL.

Also, I finished Heesu of Class 2 a couple of weeks ago. It's really cute. Heesu and his secret admirer are adorable. Was surprised to discover the ML of SF there. His character in HOC2 is poles apart from that in SF.

FFL is flawed, took a me a good ten episodes to get invested. I was even thinking of dropping it. Later in the drama, there are ridiculous slo-mo shots and wind in their hair scenes which instead of making them look cool, make them look ridiculous. I persevered because the very first battle scene was done well and VS looks very believable wielding a spear. Thereafter, I ended up liking it so much that I looked forward to watching its episodes each day. Also, the battle scenes are very realistic and I loved the story. Many of the important secondary characters are not props to move along the love story and the FL does major things with people who are not the ML. However, the chemistry isn't the best. DYX and VS try their utmost but some things are not meant to be, LOL. People hate VS' acting skills but I don't really think she is as bad as everyone is saying. Also, I feel her acting is suitable for the character she's playing. I couldn't get invested into Fated Hearts despite Li Qin and some of the supporting cast being absolutely fantastic, yet, I loved Fight for Love. Go figure.

Nah, probably will never watch the As You Stood By or the J-original. In recent years, I usually end up avoiding heavier dramas. My need for escapism is on an all time high. πŸ˜…

WIHSS is a sweet and cute gem. The ML's character design is such that he's unintentionally hilarious. It's a pleasant watch.

My bet is that he'd find out halfway through the drama, that is the end of ep 07, tease her till ep 08/09 and get together by ep 10, and both the couples will be up against the chaebol families of their partners in the remaining episodes.

Also, cannot wait till he discovers the truth, and starts outrageously flirting with her to completely baffle, and to some degree disappoint her. We know that she sorta derived strength from some of the words he'd spoken on the boat during her last job hunt. It'd fun to watch her get horrified, yet, feel like she cannot reveal the truth. Or reveal the truth and he is completely unperturbed. 🀣

OMG. I have only watched Fight for Love since then, ROFL.

Had I Not Seen the Sun is going to have 2 parts?! Ooh. Interesting.

Currently just watching Moon River (not the most cohesive, sticking around for the leads, amd some of the supporting cast) and Why is He Still Single? (C-remake of one of the older JDramas).

I kinda regret already starting this one. I knew it would be fun, I just didn't realise it'd be this fun. πŸ˜…

TMAI! How does one mess up playing a cold, stiff character?! Her dialogue delivery leaves SO MUCH to be desired.
It's a bit difficult to explain given the fact that viewing experiences can be very subjective. However, if I were to opine on why I find her to be severely lacking as an actor, I would draw attention to how her portrayal causes a dissonance between the character she's supposed to play and the performance that we are seeing. It doesn't help that she has to share frames with skilled co-performers. The gap is jarring. Also, she pauses at all the wrong places while delivering her lines. She is unable to emote. Even when she is playing a ruthless person willing to kill to achieve her goals, you get nothing. Instead of icy, vindictive emotions, all you get is her natural resting face.

Not always. For example, consider the variety of English dialects spoken in the UK. To the untrained ear, if a Londoner tries to sound Irish or Cockney for an American audience, not many Americans may be able to pick on how the said Londoner has messed up the accent. Similarly, someone from Asia unfamiliar with the American Southern drawl, may not be able to tell if it's a good or bad rendition of the said accent. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Also, drawing out words, or stilted speech may be a creative choice. Unfortunately, the SFL is butchering the delivery. Drawing out words help create tension, increasing the sense of dread. Yet, her delivery just makes the viewer impatient.

To give another example, in different parts of the world, people conduct and hold themselves differently. A deaf person from Europe may not be able to pick on the nuances in a SEA drama but a deaf person from SEA would. Consider how in the West, people usually look directly into the eyes of the person they are talking to irrespective of their age, whereas in certain Asian settings, it may not be polite to do so. So, it's nothing to do with whether the viewer is from a hearing or non-hearing community. Or how Koreans turn to the side when drinking with an elder or their office superior. So, now if a Korean person were to drink without doing so, a western person would not think it's odd unless they are heavily familiar with Korean norms. If you watch CDramas, you would see how those who have had training in dance seem to execute fight choreography with way more finesse than those not trained in dance. This is something that not many would notice and/or care about, yet, a dancer watching the fight scenes most likely would.

True! πŸ˜… I would've skipped her scenes if I could but then I would've trouble understanding the story.
