That is exactly why its necessary for this story. RR is insecure that SYS only loved her becos he was in love with MQG, so this arc was a chance to prove to her that he loves her for who she is, esp since he restarts from the 'I hate MQG so much' state LOL
Nobody did the amnesia arc better than LDT IMHO, its sooooooo much cute, zero frustration, except for SYS himself LMAO

This part is actually added in the drama and was not in the novel...

I kind of interpreted it as this:
So cultivators supposedly to have at least 1 elemental spirit root based off the 5 elements... Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. In the novel the different schools are focused with just 1 elemental power but drama seems to suggest they need to have all 5...

When MRW stole all 5 of her sister's roots, Ranran had none and it was very difficult to just 'grow' one from nothing... but similar to a plant I suppose, when we start a new cutting, its much easier to start growing the plant once there is some roots formed.... so they performed a spiritual root heist while the fake MQG was 'under anaesthesia' , transferred ONE root over to Ranran, and so she was able to grow her other roots after they use the best cultivation methods eg giving her access to the best cultivation spots in Xishan, to help her grow her powers again.

In place of MRW's stolen root they infused her with an elixir power-up so she won't realize there is a missing part in her engine LOOOL
