Oh you are very observant Good for you!! Its nice to see her smileYes its low keyed and I like it tooIve never…
I'm afraid I can't take full credit; it's something I've been seeing around on social media. little bit in the past week. I think this tweet was the specific one I had in mind (though there were other details I could pick out once I thought about it): https://x.com/kshingx/status/1828307557867237701
Jung So-Min is incredibly talented; I first came across her in the first part of the fantasy romance Alchemy Of Souls and have since dug into her backlog a little, like with Because This Is My First Life, and an episode or two of Soul Mechanic, as well as finding her YouTube channel, ssomday. The dramas themselves might be a little hit or miss with me personally (though everyone else might think very differently), but her acting skill is a constant throughout, and I'd recommend practically anything she's been in for the chance alone to witness it.
I feel like this passion for cooking has been so well foreshadowed; she said she had a YouTube cooking channel in the first few episodes when she was cooking the rooftop meal (which already looked professional), she showed a lot of enthusiasm when her parents were preparing food, and one of the first things she noticed when she went to the ML's work was the kitchen area.
I love this drama so far; I'm finding it so comforting and low-key; I want nothing but happiness and contentment for these characters. ๐
I did watched handmaiden but not entirely, but I remember reading fingersmith written by Sarah waters. Handmaiden…
Clearly you have a lot of strong feelings about this film. I'm glad; that's exactly what art is supposed to stir. โก If you have any links to the lesbian porn you've seen that's similar to The Handmaiden, I'd be much appreciative. I'm a sucker for good direction and writing.

Some people could encounter a million different interpretations of art, and still never see it as art at all . Ultimately, if you decide to interpret lesbian sex on film as artless porn regardless of the framing, then that's your loss and nobody else's, so I'm happy to let you be from now. Good day.

You do remind me of that character, but it was my bad for engaging. So many people disagreeing with a person and not one sign of critical reflection, just thin insults based on things like presumed age โ I should've seen the signs before, and that was legitimately on me. Sense8's a good show if you can get over the whole sex = pornography and potentially specific LGBTQ+ hangup, though; it might be a good way of challenging potential biases, if you're ever interested.

Sorry to jump in, but you remind me quite strongly of a character in this scene (warnings for nudity / sex act depiction in the context of a lecture) :https://youtu.be/XHaRhU1fACE?si=0fRrT4KirvHb9ahg
Not to say that my own absolute favourite scenes in the film were the erotic ones myself, but I think in terms of a story where reclaiming a sense of sexual autonomy was important to the characters in terms of an overall personal autonomy, especially when there are still so few films that depict LGBTQ+ relationships as romances that honour character arcs, emotional intimacy, and capture sensuality โ I think it forms a distinct identity as an erotic film despite my own preferences.
That said, I think the character in the clip I sent it captures it well: interpretation is where what is seen reveals the seer. If you see The Handmaiden as porn over art, then that will be what you choose to see it as โ because it's most certainly not the only interpretation that exists for it. You're choosing to not see beyond your own biases.
That said, I hope that we all enjoy this drama! I know I'm excited.
I've been loving watching this drama week by week. The romance of the everyday set to cafรฉ light, an empty office at night, the Seoul backstreets โ the ongoing conflict between loyalty (to others and yourself, to your own principles) and an inextinguishable ambition exacerbated by a "results-based", ever-consuming society that calls for everything personal and relational to be burnt to the ground.
I love the stories that make a grandness of the mundane, and feel like there's been a steady buildup to something from the very start. I feel very well justified in my high hopes for this weekend. โก
