I enjoyed this romcom immensely. It's funny how whenever I have low expectations for a drama I always get the opposite result. This is a very pleasant, lighthearted story with a strong female lead (my favourite kind)who faces many preconceptions of the Korean society concerning single mums and also has wonderful male friends and partners who help her to do so. It's a good and refreshing story about friendship, love and perseverance that I heartly recommend.
I feel so lucky that I came across this great sageuk masterpiece. It has so many poetic and delicate moments and succeeds in conveying the feeling of what painting and art in general are all about. There are also different 'levels' of love depicted in this story and everyone's acting is absolutely superb. Some scenes were like paintings themselves and really on the whole it is really worth a watch and I heartly recommend this...I was also a little bit disappointed by the ending as I was expecting something different, but this doesn't take away the beauty of the story.
I had high expectations for this drama after seeing some excellent sageuks before this one. Unfortunately I wasn't…
Hi Lala, I appreciate your point of view but we can agree to disagree as she could have proven her love to him all the same without following him everywhere he went...In any case I didn't mean that she was actually 'stalking' Seung Yong but her always appearing behind his back was pretty annoying for me.
I agree with lettucelove's comment that the first episodes of this drama were like pulling teeth for me. Indeed this lasted for the first 9 episodes as the silly and superficial personality of the lead actress was really quite a lot to bear. Luckily in the second half the story takes a more serious and convincing turn and it becomes involving until the end. Recently I have come across a few drama plots where the lead femal characters are constantly running after the male character which I find rather humiliating. I couldn't rate this more than 7 because I didn't enjoy the first episodes.
Great article! It was very interesting for me to read a male point of view as I thought they were almost non-existent as drama viewers (so I was biased too). Anyway here goes:
1. Female.
2. I think so, somehow it seems it is more expected by society to be mostly females who watch Asian and South American dramas.
3. Yes mostly at females because there is a very high percentage of plots involving love themes. However I noticed that most Japanese dramas recently seem to be targeted towards a mixed audience.
4. 5 males!
5. The cast lineup doesn't affect me much unless one of my favourite actors is in the drama. Which obviously attracts me more to want to watch it.
6. no as recently I watched dramas with my favourite actors which I rated with lower marks because the plots were not too good.
7. yes, definitely romantic comedies and lately some action stories.
8. no.
After having watched 43 episodes of this drama I decided to drop it. The first 10/15 episodes for me were not enjoyable (and I had been tempted to drop it even then) but I endured hoping that the plot would improve, which it did for a while, only to become unbearable again on the 43rd episode (with a lot of predictable angst to come on the next ones).
On the whole the acting was good and some twists and turns of the story were enjoyable but I found that some characters were way too dramatic and reacted with over the top unnecessary hysterical shouting and crying in many instances.
Joo Won is really good in this drama as always but I prefer to see him in dramas like Bridal Mask and 7th Grade Civil Servant.
This is a nice and easygoing story. I had never seen Choi Si Won before and liked his acting here whereas I had seen Chae Rim in Dal Ja's Spring and I think she was good in this drama too. Both the little girls here are adorable and all in all it is a heartwarming story worth watching.
I had high expectations for this drama after seeing some excellent sageuks before this one. Unfortunately I wasn't so satisfied for two main reasons: the first one is that the story was far too full of angst moments with a plot that left the viewer with many questions at the end. Secondly I found the character of Se Ryung irritating and self-righteous. I don't know if this depended on the actress MCW whom I really appreciated in Innocent Man but who always showed the same facial expressions here, or because Se Ryung was too persistent in 'stalking' Seung Yoo in every possible way which was quite annoying in many instances.
I really appreciated some of the side characters like the princess, her adorable husband, and the two friends who helped Seung Yoo. I thought Park Shi Hoo's acting was very good here and I will certainly view more dramas with him hopefully with better suited partners.
I totally agree with this article...I am really enjoying this drama so far as I am a Joo Won fan and I also like the female lead who was very good in Protect the Boss, I don't understand what the fuss about the age difference is about. I can't wait for the next episodes.
I discovered Ohno when I watched Kagi no Kakkatta Heya last year and it was the first time I had seen him or heard of Arashi. He litterally blew me away with his excellent acting and also the final OST was something that I couldn't get out of my head. Since then I became a big fan of Arashi in getting to know all of their music production and of course my favourite is always Ohno. I will watch some other dramas that you list on here to get to know him better as an actor too. Thanks so much for this article.
I just finished watching this drama and I have to say that overall I enjoyed it although there were a little too many twists and turns in the plot. Some situations were quite unbelievable for the unlucky coincidences that happened always for the benefit of the villains in the story until the very end. I have noticed that in many Korean dramas the second leads are outstanding characters and I feel that in this instance the second lead was the best I have seen so far and definitely deserved a happy ending. The grandmother was definitely the character that particularly shined in this story.
