I am so happy to meet you too...we have exactly the same tastes in dramas!! All your favourites are my favourites too and I am about to start watching The Princess'Man which promises to be great too.
Thanks for this very enlightening article. I mostly knew about Sushi and Tempura concerning Japanese food and always wondered what the dishes in the drama were. I always see them eating from a common hot pot in the middle with a broth type thing, it looks delicious too.
I just finished watching this drama and on the whole I enjoyed it. It is a very heartwarming and positive story very typically in the Japanese style. What is emphasized mostly is the concept of friendship and optimism and the last episode is also about forgiveness and brotherhood. It left me with a smile on my face and an nice overall feeling. I appreciated the originality of the story very much in tune with the present world economic crysis.
great article...I enjoy reading the comments on how everyone is dressed. I agree with most of your judgements except those concerning many of the male actors who generally seemed acceptable to me.
thanks so much for this very clear article. I had seen parts of these award ceremonies but I could not understand what all the different awards were about. With this comprehensive list it is easier to see who won what reward and I agree that it is a shame that they don't just have one single ceremony with rewards which cover all the different TV stations. In any case many of the actors and the dramas that I enjoyed this year got awarded so I am very happy.
totally agree about the villains of King2Hearts, Faith, City Hunter and Rooftop Prince. I have to say that the ones I hated the most were those of Rooftop Prince though as I still can't get over how easily they managed to play so many tricks on their poor victims and get away with it. As far as those in the other three dramas I somehow didn't feel as bad as they all lost in the end which set the balance back for me.
I have only seen three out of these characters which are those of Bridal Mask, The Moon that Embraces the Sun and Secret Garden and I agree with you that they were annoying. I would have added the two villains of Rooftop Prince which for me are the worst I have seen so far in dramas.

Hi Amanee, thanks so much for your friend request. :-)
I just finished watching this drama and I really enjoyed it up until the last four episodes which spoilt it a bit for me. I didn't like some of the twists of the story in the end and mostly the fact that the leading female role in this is so weak throughout all the episodes that it becomes almost unbearable. In any case LMH definitely is the asset in this drama and on the whole the story is a pleasant watch until Ep.12 so I gave it an 8.
I was also surprised to see that Rooftop Prince was so popular as personally I found it good and funny only on the first half, however I agree with most of these results anyway. I think that 2012 was an excellent year for Korean dramas many of which I have already watched more than once as they are true masterpieces for me.
This movie was good although I didn't enjoy it as much as the first and second drama seasons. The characters were the same a in the drama but I thought the story line was rather weak. I enjoyed the settings very much as I am Italian and was happy that Rome was chosen and I of course understood all the parts that were spoken in original language. The couple of Hotaru and Boucho are always really great together but I wish such a good chance had been exploited in a better way.
I decided to watch this drama because it is ranked N.1 here on MDL and I wanted to understand why it was considered so outstanding (and even better than BM which is my all time favourite!).
I have to say that after watching it I can see why it is so popular especially amongst younger generations. It is really a 'one of a kind' drama with a very original story line which goes back and forth from the past to the present whilst keeping the story interesting and very entertaining, with a great OST too. The actors are incredibly good at portraying the way of life of the 90s in a particular area of Korea, and by the end of the story it feels like they have become also our long term friends. Some scenes were extremely funny, others very touching and on the whole it was possible to feel the warmth of friendship and family ties. I will certainly re-watch it again in the future and I gave it a 9 only because it is not at the level of BM for me. I agree that the plot becomes more interesting in the second half of the story.
Thanks so much for this info. My hopes for the Korean 2013 dramas are really high since many of the ones of 2012 were of really high level. Of the ones you list here, the one I am mostly interested in is Live for Love. I hope it will be as good as the latest sageuk dramas.
I have only seen Kim Soo Hyun, Hyun Bin and Lee Min Ho out of all these and I agree that they are really good at making the viewer experience the sadness and despair that they are feeling.
I just finished this drama and I have to say that I am very happy with it. I agree that the time travelling part can remind one of RTP, but the plot here is developed in a totally different way and the love story is really heart melting. The two factors that I appreciated most of this story are: the fact that the villains are not unbearable like in RTP and most of all the main characters are very, very clever and have a beautiful and warm personality. It is not a drama that I will rewatch as it didn't blow me away which is why I gave it an 8, however I was happy I watched it as it gave me a very positive and warm feeling of wellbeing.
I totally love this article!!! Infact this was the main reason why I first started to watch Japanese dramas (and now have moved on to Korean dramas). I wanted to learn more about their ways of life, their society, their history and their language and even if it sounds unbelievable to those who never watch dramas I have learnt so much from them. Sometimes, when stories are not so involving, I focus mainly on these factors than on the story itself and I find them extremely fascinating. Like you state also some aspects of history are interesting as for example I didn't know anything about the Japanese occupation in Korea before watching Bridal Mask. I am so glad to realize that many others share the same interests as myself.
I just finished watching this awesome drama. I am probably biased as I love saeguks and I found this drama very beautiful to watch because of the great settings, costumes and OST. The story was interesting, although I would have enjoyed it more if it had less magic, the acting was good for most actors except for the queen in her older version which is why I am giving it a 9. Unfortunately I felt there was not so much chemistry between the two mostly because of her lack of facial expressions, whereas the king was superb (both in the younger and older versions)which adds another actor to my list of whom to keep an eye on in the future.
