Luqing armor as u mentioned is hard to even understand considering story never gave any insights about it. It's understandable that people think he don't even love xiao fan.

Apart from xiaofan's development. He did in today's ep took his stand to not move in but the moment lu qing threaten him that u walk out and we are done. He stopped so he still have some feelings for him. It's just that xiao fan's feelings is too mixed it's hard to understand why sometimes he is taking the decision or maybe it's the mix of both just like in real life. He love him but he is so grateful to him for giving his brother job. Otherwise it doesn't make sense emotionally also as to why xiao fan still care about making porridge if not gratitude. It speaks less of love action to me more like habit. Because if I see xiao fan after making out with lu qing....while lu qing was peacefully cuddling with him. Asking for congee and embracing him, xiao fan was hard to read that time. He looked lost in thoughts. And tbh it's very hard to even understand what he is feeling atp. Their make out was also because of exchanging job with body to show gratitude and past old flame resurfacing but it's suffocating.

Yes no one is telling their grievances to each other. But that is why this is soo toxic. I now nowhere find it as sweet. How long can this last? They have to talk it out. Lu qing even if didn't want to show to the world his feelings to protect himself and xiaofan but now it's doing more harm here. Till ep5 i understood but even now if he don't talk and show his feelings properly and with clarity this will bound to break. No one can last this longer.

And that's sad. They both understand each other but not fully. Atleast xiao fan he never understood lu qing. It's as if he is showing his limited and controlled side to xiao fan when in reality lu qing is doing to protect him. But protect from whom? Society? His mom? Parents? Shame?

This story has just focused too much on character's pain and less pov of lu qing and less dealing of issues. With 3 ep remaining i think they will not get happy ending. And that's fine. But tbh this looks like they are so close to each other physically but their emotional distance just widened.

Even lu qing's maintaining his new house like old one doesn't bring me happiness. It saddens me . It hurts me. Idk why. It looks so suffocating. Their journey which was started as care, gratitude then evolved to love with bittersweet feelings to miscommunication and misunderstanding and finally broken to the point where only love and transactional care remains along with the feeling of suffocation like you can't move ahead nor go backwards.

Where this story headed towards? What is the destiny for them? All i know this drama has core of tragedy just it's storytelling is soft. So tragedy doesn't hit like crying sessions but more like sadness. Sadness that u can't understand what for? Hurt u don't know why?

Personal note- I have to watch each ep twice just to read and re read the expression and feelings of lu qing. That man is too bad in expressing. At this point I am ok if he msg xiaofan 520 and i can reply back as 521 from xiao fan's behalf because tbh given xiao fan wittiness i don't think he can decode it ever. 😅😂

But if i think deeper than if bandits are not backed by chancellor then my theory is correct. These ministers doesn't cares if common folks die. Also it also add another layer that if bandits will cause ruckus someone will report it in capital and emperor has to take action on it. So money extortion will not happen. It will not serve the purpose of them and they will loose the power and network. Unless bandits scare people by taking the name of chancellor as backing so people will know they have no one to help and maybe that's why people gave in and didn't protested as even emperor is under control of chancellor. So they can't even directly convey this to the king. Means living condition is so poor that people has accepted terror as their fate.

And this iron part do make sense. It's infact in consistent with the ep1. ML went to the desert( i always forget the name) in order to investigate and capture that arm dealing issue person. He also saw that military quality weapons are even with common folks or actually with governor and bandits...which is concerning. Because if u look the scale it would be hard to carry and supply the weapon itself. Its risky. And if u weild weapon that also requires skilled labour and both means more exposure. Why would one directly import weapon that has higher chance to get caught and have capital punishment. Instead import high quality iron and tell it's for trade purpose. Then weild or melt weapon. But having that level of wide n/w means the extreme of corruption and military power that is planning to overthrow the king. They are even prepared for war. They can supply weapons and chancellor in capital can insert moles or make the situation so as to instable the thrown. And yes if external supply is coming from enemy then it also makes sense as seeing this much corruption they are just waiting for an opportunity. They don't even need to strike and they will see the whole empire crumbled without any effort.
I am missing context here on who is supplying whom. But it is indeed logic as per me and it's not a threat added just to add.but it does serve the plot and strengthen military plot. More of the reason why Emperor has to act fool. Because if he dare to be open without any strong plan he will loose his life and empire will go to people who don't care about common folks. He can't take down this powerful backing alone. He need his people to act like an espionage snf sometimes with martial arts to protect the king and bring some change in whole web. It's too big.

Another thing what to expect from a FL drama? When in thousands of other drama ML was clever and fierce and FL was supporting them from behind no one complained about oh this was done to convincingly show romance? Suddenly gender change and yes too FL ??? Anyways people have their own preferences no comments.

I am here to see FL centric drama and this drama is serving me.ML is not just a potrait here. He too has story. He to has gone just this time he is playing safe and smart to tackle the situation. Not everything has to be war or diplomatic or powerful. It's ok to show the reality that in history emperor were also being controlled and their authority was just reduced to nominal power.

Rest leave it to them. Not all can enjoy and not all can hate a drama. If they don't have anything to keep going better na. They can drop and we have more people who can appreciate this drama. It's their time.

Hmm. Fair criticism. Actually what u said is true. This drama serve nothing new as in terms of tropes. But this drama tries to attempt to touch a lot of topics which each issue in itself can be told in 4-5 ep. But there is one thing this drama promised a strong FL embodying women empowerment and this drama serves that.One thing that is new here is emperor is pretending to be puppet waiting for opportunity to shackle from the clutch of these power hungry and controlling ministers who want nothing but the destruction of the empire and people. It tells the story in detail about that. It's struggle.I have never heard of this except in Imperial Coroner which is in my watchlist but there also kings have died throughout the generations in coup. Also i guess the whole concept of FL being a officer in Imperial court is new. We have not seen that. Maybe working as one in other dept but never as a direct minister or in the service of all hail majesty. We have always seen women to use her cleverness and brain to support ML cause or emperor from behind. This is first in front line and no i am not talking about LOFG( female generals). So fairly new concept to me.

This story has lots of branching plots which would be interesting to see as to how they merge it with main plot. I think romance here is just a part of whole plot. It is not the focus. Focus is FL.

Despite everything i think still this drama if not spectacular then atleast its average. Because let's be honest this drama gives what one expect from wuxia drama. This year was so dry in terms of wuxia so this give me a fresh breath. Because I was bored in ZZA, in splendid match romance was the core and in TFJ aka Mo Li again romance with the FL who was first time in historical drama was shown a mental sickness. But that also was romance centric. I was waiting for Mo Li and I felt so sad that I was not able to get past from ep3 itself.

Maybe storytelling is fragmented I will not comment on that as I have watched only ep1 lol. But it would be interesting to see how they pull it together.

Just completed ep1, and i guess this drama did touched lots of topics and whether it can handle it nicely will be another ques. Till ep1, this is my thought of this drama.

This story is set up in a desert area. Which is far from the capital. This is a common and understood thing that when an empire is big in terms of geography then it's very difficult for a king to check what's happening in grassroots level. So kings generally gave this task to governor. Here it's also a fact that this desert area is also a garrison for military which gave birth to the corruption because military officials are causing ruckus by terrorising whom they should protect and running entire black market, prostitution, child trafficking and balantly causing deaths over nothing in the name of governor. But Governor himself is not aware what they are doing as they are just informing him what they did and just compensate by giving money. All black money. His family reeks of wealth and false power, when de facto power goes to military. Plus the arms which should be reserved for military is found everywhere. Means everyone has access to superior arms that can lead to emperor loosing his territory in case of coup. Plus since it's in deserted area the only way to go to capital is via camels and lots of hurdles of hot winds and harsh temp. ..making news travel slow. Plus since there is no proper system running people are poor, as traders also are killed. So people really can't thrive there. Not to mention they can't even grow vegetables they need to source it. Making people more poor. That's why for them even 10-30 taels are hard to afford. Girls are bound to become housewifes if not sold or forced to prostitution. In short whole area is in ruins.

The ML who just traveled to the desert area for another case of arms he understood how deep this chaos is. But the Chancellor and ministers want power to take decision in terms of politics and control emperor as he is young. Emperor feigns ignorance just so that people think he is stupid and not try to throw or kill him and behind the scenes he is smart enough to undercover truth and daring enough to take risk to make some changes by investigating. The ministers had they been wanted only power and has capability and will to make empire and it's people thrive it would have worked. But looks like ministers also don't care if people die. So in short country or empire's reign is a ticking bomb just one step behind to meet its tragedy. One war and people and empire will be gone.

Then we have Meng. She just want to be an official in order to seek justice and improve things in her hometown. As she has always seen injustice and dangers in her life throughout, she was bound to be mature and clever. Imagine it's a golden opportunity for her to go serve the capital.

But looks like Meng Ting Hui's fate has some diff plans. This whole exploration of life of her desert home and corruption in capital along with emperor's helplessness in order to deal with all these is the foundation of future ep. Encounter of ML and FL is not just fated romance encounter but a well played strategy written by author to show how these two are bound to be together and meet and work together in order to expose the web of corruption and fight it. One is calm and one is fierce. They complete each other the pieces that need in order to fight injustice sng corruption that has been shown in ep1.

Let's see how this story deals with these plots in coming ep.

Harem existence came into the picture because in monarch times kings often need to marry daughter or princess from enemy province so as to maintain peace in the kingdom without any wars. Or worst case to have son who can rule the empire later. There was no love involved. Throughout history there has been lot of cases where kings never wanted to marry them and even if they built a harem their position in harem was so low. They used to always live in the fear when they will throw out if they don't deliever son. And some were so unfortunate that king never visited them. Their life was worst than hell. They were in cage. They can't go outside nor meet anyone nor actually fall in love with their own true love. Just for the sake of harem.

There have been instances where lots of king has actually fought to make their love as their queen but sometimes it was not possible because of diff socip economic and political bg. Afterall who can compare to the status of king? None. There have been a very rare case when emperor was actually in love with someone and that girl became queen or his one and only.

So if this drama is giving u one and only girl as his queen and he is capable enough to handle politics and tension with diplomacy and wars rather than having a harem then I don't see any problem here.

Afterall it's s stupid idea to me that love depends on beauty. Otherwise Princess Diana would be the happiest women to ever live. But was she? Just open the history book and learn. Or better idea do nothing just watch drama and if not able to understand just google it. Or just leave. Women are not identified solely because of her beauty. We women are more than that. I am here to enjoy strong FL with logical plot. Just give me that. These beauty.... remember lots of women died because of beauty since ancient times.

Can't we just talk about plot? Acting and production. Why so many off topic comments are here? And let's focus on enjoying story.ratings will eventually go up of drama actually deserves it. It's on start phase so people eventually who are haters or people who are going to drop it because of either story or cast or acting will not impact the story or success of the drama. Because more than anything if i have understood is that international fans always have diff expectations than mainland China. So if this drama is doing good in mainland China means this drama is already successful. Rest who cares? Even ZZA and lots of good dramas has rating of less than 8 that doesn't impact anyone as long as story is actually good.

Why to ruin a drama? Why to come here and make us disgusted here by making this remarks? What's with beauty? Does a women's existence and an actress existence is limited to her beauty? These kind of comments make me vomit. Imagine being a girl I am loving chinese drama specially wuxia just to get a strong FL because in real history our women are forgotten with what they have contributed to us and not to mention lots of invention were stolen. Ewwww. Who thinks like this. What do they mean by she is not pretty? She is 35 yet she has maintained figure and she looks young. That's the reason why most of the actresss after touching 30s dont get bigger projects and they are bound to go under surgery and maintain harsh diet so as people can be more accepting towards them. Eg- Dilraba, Yangzi, Liying. Unrealistic beauty standards. Talk about plot, story, acting, makeup also i can take but not pretty seriously????

Actually this has happened in history. There are lots of instances where in actual history child has become am emperor to carry on the empire but was assisted by ministers and when that child started understanding politics or have voice and mind of his own, ministers or faction used to kill them so that they make a puppet emperor sit in the throne. And when the same rule got followed in colonial period that led to loosing the kingdom from local kings to colonial countries/ next ministers. Just ig in China, more than ministers enunchs were also powerful the same was depicted in Imperial Coroner. Ig only handful of kings got away from this mess with lots of internal struggle and massacre. Some were enough smart to take on the kingdom like in splendid match but I still think the emperor in splendid match was so small to understand and take far fetched decision when it comes to politics. I don't understand why there is very less acceptance regarding this matter in audience as if they are unaware that these kind of thing has happened

I think Ayden has potrayed lufeng's character so well. I really became soo attached to his smile. I felt sharp pain in my heart when i saw his half and grown painful smile at the end. It was not where near to the smile lufeng had in school and college days. That's one of the reason when I watched the finale even though according to story they got togetherness I was crying for days. My heart just can't accept that smile.
