He flew to Europe. That scene where they reconsile it says 1996, Chinatown in Spain.

CY was talking to Jialin about seeing CY off, and realized that CY is hiding something. Sister Lin then tells QL everything she knows about CY's situation. QL talks to WS and finds out where exactly CY is and follows him to the detention center. We don't know why CY is there or who is he seeing there. My assumption is it's his father being investigated thus is kept there. QL sees how CY changes cars and decides not to follow further.
