I personnally did not watch squid game. I heard about it few years ago. I did not chose to watch it because it was not interesting enough to my taste. But I understand why a lot of people like it. And I accept the fact that it is done with a high budget for CGI, filming sets and crew fees. So people find it great.

In your opinion, because you like intelligent dramas. But some viewers like those easy watch with big budget. So I am not suprised by this success.

This is why it's always nice to give the drama room to settle the plot. This drama has a very complex plot but the outcome is really good, enjoyable and interesting. To me this drama is one of the bests so far because it kept me interested until the very end.

Nowadays, entertainment industry gives budget to a lot of remakes. This the reason. They want to be sure to get their investment money back.

Most dangerous games was about escaping death in outdoors by running. It is one of my favs. I won't compare it with SG because of the child game.
"The most dangerous game" was released in 1930's [1934 if I remember well] ! So yes, hollywood was the originator.

It is simple if he loses that lawsuit that indian director will have to pay the lawyer fees of the defender. Lawyer in the US are not cheap. He might be financially drained.
update : SG is filmed in the US. This a co production I believe.*sigh*
