I’m disappointed. I don’t like the set up of the story, it was creepy. The moments between them were pretty…
It's the red thread of fate concept. That's how it's supposed to move. It's the fall in love at first sight. I've had that in my family. About four people in my family met each other on sight & within 16 hours were married & are still together 50yrs later no cheating nothing.

I think we'll know more b/c it is his birthday today. So they'll disclose everything & it's part of his character development. Thankfullly these SK bl writers have been improving here. They successfully made ONE bl drama with To My Star & failed miserbly w/ their previous attempts. I think they've learned from their mistakes & will succeed here with TMS.

They already started on a great start w/ adult actors, which means good acting. This means they're going to give proper storytelling. You can rest assured they will give proper backstory. They already started.

1. We already know they met 3 yrs ago when SSO was bet. the ages of 16-18, since he was wearing his HS uniform.

2. He was already taking dancing classes. - Ballet at the time.

3. We know JHS was working as a loan collector then.

4. In bet. this time. SSO's mother is remarried - b/c in the picture is SSO as a teen looking up at his mom in her wedding dress.

5. He explicitly says to her picture. "Mom, have a good day today." Normally, you don't say that to a picture of your dead mom.
You would normally say something like, "Morning mom, I love you. Let's hope for a good day." <--something like that. That's what I do for my dad who passed away. Saying that way is more of a metaphysical telegraphic message.
I think humans do that when they hope a family member can hear our hopes although their far away.
[Despite in the back of my mind she might be dead.]

6. We also know SSO left ballet for free dancing. Which is a big step. They're TWO very different things as far as movement - that could be way he's so bad at it. You can be stiff & emotionless in ballet - it's so regimented. I mean yes, they want you project something in ballet, but it's all about FORM. Free Dance is all about passion & emotion. Yeah, I like free form - if I had a child that's the type of dance I would put my child in.

7. Free form classes are actually cheaper than ballet. I kept wondering if money was involved when it came to this change. I don't know about you.

7.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm on the fence w/ this one. I'm definitely towards your idea, but something keeps me from totally jumping the fence.
Korean dramas ALWAYS like having mothers marrying some foreigner and moving abroad, *cough* Canada *cough*. That's where I hesitate.
I can see her kind of separating herself from her "oldest" to focuse on her "new" family. I say this b/c that looks like him in the picture w/ his mother at HER wedding.
He took out some loans himself - maybe to support himself in Uni - either b/c she didn't want him to worry or she "forgot" about him or she gave him the ultimate of Canada or staying in Korea w/ funding & he chose Korea.

Btw, what's up with Shi On's mom? The way that flashback went, it looks as if she married someone and kinda abandoned…
I think you're reading too much into the podcast - that doesn't even sound like a podcast. It sounds like a radio station - where they're talking about romance. Plus, that was when he was bet. the ages of 16-18 b/c right now he's part of a dancing troupe at Uni. She's just a random DJ.

In China, there are censorships, for example, there must not have any kiss scene between boys and between girls…
Well as I said in my post. AvenueX who is a really well known in the Chinese drama review world definitely differentiates from the two.
What I made clear in my post to the poster and what AvenueX triggered in my mind when she discribed BL in Chinese storyline as brotherly love.
You have to see how "bromance" is looked at internationally -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJVt8kUAm9Q

What's even sadder no one even knows the origins of this word. It comes from Orange County & some idiot is talking about & his best friend, "He wants to break up." - ie Bromance is invented - the guys name was Brody something or other. It was this show on MTV. I watched the episode live.

Then we have this horrible line that was always part of pop culture but really went viral on Transformers, "Bros before Hoes." Let me give an example of who the bromance's would be in a bl the wingman. It's just like in a hetero romance.

In a hetero-romance you would have the lead guy w/ a best friend right? That best friend...is the bromance. Now how does Brotherly Love work in this situation? You sleep at BL's house - you have a change of clothes there & keys. You guys might even live in the same apartment building.

The BL might not go to the bar w/ you, work, live, or see you everyday but you have so much access to him that not even his girlfriend does. You know the password to his phone, bank account number, (as I said) keys or passcode to his home, you're both probably beneficiaries on life insurance - *_* [kill me]. <- Just examples. This is where BL almost seems like marriage.

This is why I said, there are relationships some guys have I can't date those guys. Obviously, they have something they don't know they have. I'm not about to be the third wheel. Hopefully, they figure it out. So for instance...if you ever get a chance to watch the Kdrama, Can You Hear My Heart - seriously ahead of it's time. The film really, really, really wanted to be a bl drama maybe even would have been a proper LGBTQ+ drama.

The relationship, dialogue, scenes those two men had. When this drama came out there used to be several popular forums & this site didn't exist. SOOMPI wasn't that popular - mainly b/c the Korean population there were way too racist.

However there were like 2 other MASSIVE East Asian sites - WOW this drama was the biggest discussion piece b/c of the interaction between the two men. They were rolling around tickling each other...When one would be on top of each other they would look at each other. The other would sleep wrapped up in the other's arms. Girl...know one knew what the hell they were watching. We never understood why there was a vagina on the show. I'M JUST BEING REAL! :)

However, this is my point of making a real distinction of the comedic value of a "bromance" and the reality of "Brotherly Love" or what I've come to see the two as. Then we have the English term for Yaoi, which is boy love. Then there's my fourth special category of LGBTQ+.

*I'm going to use lower case bl to describe "boy love" and BL to describe "Brotherly Love".
First, you're not really saying anything different from me. You're just naming actual dramas or Jdoramas.
Actually, from my understanding the Chinese don't really translate it to "Bromance" - that's why I made the distinction between "Bromance" and "Brotherly Love". If you watched AvenueX's discussion on Guardian she speaks on the relationship of the two characters from a bl ship to having a Brotherly Love dynamic.
This also further's my point. I see three clear distinctions mainly because I'm part of the community & I watch dramas from ALL East Asia (and the world - definitely women feel into my categorization a little bit).
In any event - the point was for some in East Asia & even international people "bromance & BL" could be used interchangely I felt that AvenueX's descriptions brought a lot of things home when she described the characters Guardian - she couldn't call them bl but they were EXTREMELY close.
Bromance's are something YOU MOCK! It's not taken seriously. They probably won't share a bed, feed each other - these are rare occurances in BROMANCES. Now in BL's - that's another story.
Also, BLs I feel are the ones that can transition into more like a bl. You can have tons of bromances in my eyes. Brotherly Love to me is like a soulmate - that can be distinctly male.
Then there's just bl.
I do have a special category of LGBTQ+. Only one East Asian country does it so...meh. I have my trans, my bl, my gl...I have my fems. Only one...
In any event, I differentiated for a reason.

Title To My Star
I like this story but who does these recommendations. None of those dramas a thing like this story. The majority of them are just SK BL's but don't have the same theme.
My understanding of a recommendation is if they have the same theme, not if they come from the same country.
If I had a store - it would be BL - then genre - then country.
Example:
"I would like Toxic Love stories BL"
To the BL section.
I'm in that section. Alphabetic order: Psychological, Mystery, RomCom, Toxic Love (ex.) Thriller.
I'm in Toxic Love...

China (has a lot) / Taiwan/ SK/ Thailand/ Germany/ US/ etc...

A Round Trip To Love/ History 2: Obsession/ Method/ Club Friday's / The one where the guy cooked the other guy...that one killed me. It started off so beautifully & took a wrong turn somewhere. The US knows how to mess me up w/ gay movies.

Yeah, I just don't get these random dramas being lumped together - they don't make for good viewing in my eyes.

One last thing of the things that I've seen leaked those were some of the most important things I was worried about that would be cut from the drama - but seem might still be there. I was worried but then I wasn't.

1. Shi Mei : I don't care about SM. I'm going to tell you right now IDK why anyone gives an f about the change. A lot of people say he was changed b/c of censorship...now that could be the case. My bet is b/c the character is depicted very effeminately. His name expresses it, his face, his physique, his voice, his power - almost everything about him is supposed to make him out to be a woman - they were probably like instead of making a man cross-dressing as a woman let's get a woman.

2. The dancing scene - I didn't think they'd keep it. It's kept. A man standing on another man's toes & they waltz around...yeah I wasn't expecting that.

3. The wedding scene. Now, this isn't a big deal. Love Is More Than A Word was far more nefarious & obvious w/ their male-on-male wedding - & made it past censorship. However, this one was throwing up a lot of other boundaries that NEEDED to be crossed that I could see the ghost marriage of two men might be a problem (however, others say since it is a "ghost marriage" <- they probably laughed it off).

For clarification before the ban several adapted books & films had "graphic" sex & kissing between males in Chinese media. That's the whole reason the ban was then put in place.

Actually this went on for decades. They had films that even won awards that depicted homosexual relationships that date back to the 1970s. Chinese ban on homosexuality is something actually quite recent.

They also found ways to become more and more restrictive with the ban. Until recently. I've also noticed that they've been walking back on the rigidity of their original way on looking at things.

They used to be rigid on language and the relationship or the proximity the men would be in the room. However, that's completely changed.

I'm going to disagree w/ whoever called The Untamed "bromance" - there is absolutely no way that's bromance. There were words those guys said to each other that I wouldn't want my boyfriend EVER saying to his bestfriend or brother & if he did, I'm dumping him b/c they have a relationship that doesn't include me.

There were two scenes to show people that Wei Wu Xian & Lan Wan Ji had sex - but people are blind they need things EXPLICIT. China has a band so the writers find other ways - but people can't see it - I blame international viewers eyes - I'm an international viewer but I've been watching CDramas for over 25yrs so I'm used to them.

This is the same thing w/ Advance Bravely - Advance Bravely to me was EXTREMELY explicit. Those guys were sharing beds...dude is coming out shirtless in a towel while his boyfriend his shirtless in pajama bottoms jealous over a phone call by a woman. YET, people called it a bromance. Then the boyfriend said to another guy, "I'll kill you if you come after my "Baby" (his boyfriend) again." <- People called this a Bromance.

They called it a bromance b/c people weren't kissing, have violent sex, rape, or the dude didn't come out wearing women's thong like he did in the danmei. I always have to wonder how people call something a Bromance vs. BL...it's crazy to me.

Furthermore, I saw some of the leaked images - most of what I saw stays in tact. 2/3rds of the story depicts sexual violence. That is NEVER okay in Cdramas period - NOT even the hetero ones. Admittedly, this was depicted in bl CDramas BEFORE the ban - I can name 3-4. However, the ban shut it down & I find the ban restrictions do leak over to hetero Cdrama stories.

Sorry for the long answer but I felt there should have some clarifications that needed to be made.

Yeah, I know they're both small I just don't see a difference they both can play young & older. Ireine is an EXTREMELY strong actress. She has what I call nuancisms - things that they add to the character that I wouldn't expect. I don't know how to explain it...another actress who does this is a bollywood actress Kajol - wow- she adds something to the personality of the character. Like a habit or a quirk or something.

Sorry, I just zero in on those things really quickly.

I know Cdramas are out of control. However, on the flipside it's also about conveying the story. They want quality actors playing the role. . Or some of these people do if they want to give pride to a famous Chinese writer or they want to just give a good story. We'll see how this goes.

Wayu needs to be alone. All of them are toxic. Pha, Thanu, he needs someone new or no one at all. Period. ! Pha…
Aside from Bas's not improving. Actually, I take that back - he just can't play these SHY, SWEET little boys. It's just not for him. If it's the silly, quirky, boy - he can do that. If it's the helpless, man-boy - Nah, it's not him & it shows & he's horrible. I spend my time eye-rolling & wanting fast forward. I would if it didn't mess up my viewing.
* I love this Pha - SHIT! He's the best hottie EVER. Wayu doesn't deserve this man. What a beefcake?! I don't blame him for wanting him or being upset for losing him.

----------------------------------------------------------
You know I was going to write a counter statement to yours. Then as I was writing. I realized I was actually supporting your statement. COMPLETELY.
I'm like HELL YES! Nessi is fennin RIGHT!

It's so true Nessi this crap is messy. I was like no...Phai is okay, he bowed out. Then I realized. HOLY MOLY! That entire vision that he had w/ Thanu at the monument is the future, as the line (paraphrasing), "I know you love someone else, but let me into your heart." That's all for S2. That's why I was going to say no.

So as Wayu goes through his crying game tug of war between Thanu & Pha. Thanu will look for some comforting from Phai from time to time. Poor Phai is going to turn into a used blanket. You know, that's when all those paintings will happen, probably them holding hands, maybe the tattoo. Ugh...poor Phai.

This would be the ONLY time I would support Phai & Sandee.

I can see her playing an adult. She's just REALLY miniature. It's not her fault she's like...what? 4'10"? She's going to look like a child no matter who's around her. She's shorter than even all her female co-stars when she's wearing heeled shoes. She's really tiny.

I think she can do this...I don't think Dylan can. This role belongs to a man 20yrs younger than Dylan. Me & Dylan culd be this kids parents. That's the problem w/ this role.

I'm seen as Darth Vader here b/c it seems NO ONE read TriCreations statements or wanted to read them & that's okay. They make it seem as though I was saying something slanderous which I wasn't: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfJ6TILnYU8

What I will say to the people below is that what I am supposing below is ONLY based on my knowledge of other actors & my interpretation of the text. However, all my other words were BASED were also based off of TRICREATIONS statement.

I will clarify my points, a bit more eloquently. It's NOT the Thai team that fired him. It was the Chinese group that eventually fired him. I think people aren't thinking logically when they look at My Engineer. My Engineer was NEVER going to be made. They had the hardest time to get investors, casting, location. The actors were even joking on which round of casting they came in - just b/c the bl lakorn was dropped so many times.

Finally, they got investment by a Chinese investor. however, the deal was they had to take one of their own Chinese actors. That's how Ryan showed up. Ryan is a representation of the Chinese investor.

All the people below are right when they say to me it's hard to learn another language. That was his problem...or most LIKELY the issue - they put a lot of pressue on him. He probably had to come in HOURS earlier before everyone else to practise his lines w/ the staff & leave later than everyone else. D'Angelo (Thai), Push (Thai), Jang Na Ra (Korean) - they ALL said that in interviews when they went to China for acting dramas.

They were there WAY before everyone else to know how to move their mouths b/c someone will dub them. They have to have the proper expressions so they had to practice w/ not only the Thai / Korean, respectively - verbally/ physically BEFORE w/ their on screen partner. This was before - then there was more practice AFTER. We also know that if you're an outsider joining a K-Pop band you are put through some CRAZY rigorous training that is more gruling than the normal members.

It's just the way it is to keep you up to par. If we go back to TriCreations statement about the scheduling warnings ,"bad behaviour", issues with cast & crew members - I think it all relates to this aspect. They probably felt he wasn't pulling his own weight. Everyone else probably had to come in at 8am but he has to start at 4:30 or 5:30 & he strolls in at 7am - holding up EVERYTHING. So, this thing is based on interpretation of "bad behaviour" & not getting along w/ his cast members.

He killed his practice time, he has to depend on everyone else to help him w/ the translation - when there ARE Chinese/Thai crew members there for him. There's no way the Chinese investors wouldn't provide him w/ everything. He's putting a burden on his co-stars. Again, these are my thoughts based on TriCreations satement & Jang Na Ra talked about in interviews 15 yrs ago in China. I believe Golf mentioned the same things. There are faux pas rules that could ruin you. You can't burden your co-stars - I'm not saying practicing lines w/ them isn't wrong. Having them translate for you....meh...well.

Onto the warnings. As I said, he was picked by the Chinese investors to be put into the role. He wouldn't be kicked out easily. It would take a lot to remove him. TriCreations probably came w/ a lot of complaints to the Chinese investors to remove him.

The Chinese picked their own, they're not going to have you remove their own. That's just not how it works; especially since they're the people who got My Engineer off the ground in the first place w/o those guys we wouldn't even have the series.

It's unfortunate what happened to Ryan - but it is extremely demanding & gruling. If you want it bad you put the time, money, & energy into it. D'Angelo has basically moved to Beijing & already did like 7 Cdramas if not more & about to do an American film.

This is coming from rumor ridden satan that I'm described-like by other people below. I decided to provide the youtube link this time.

Argh..why Ireine Song, not Jin Wan xin ( playing with Kris Sun in The Sweet Girl) or others like Fei Xing...
Why Dylan Kuo, is a better question. I think Ireine Song is fine for the lead. I think Wang Yi Bo (although I think he's hyped too much) would be a better lead. He's younger & it would help him grow to fit this character.
I always feel there's this tendency to go after Ireine Song - but it's mainly after her looks rather than anything else when I think her acting is brilliant & that should be enough.
